Scotty Miller “Ran” From Sean Murphy-Bunting

January 27th, 2021

Bucs CB Sean Murphy-Bunting.

One thing about the Bucs being in the Super Bowl is that all sorts of Bucs players are popping up on talk shows all over the place.

Bucs corner Sean Murphy-Bunting dropped in on Pat McAfee’s show today and was dropping knowledge.

SMB, who has a pick in each of the Bucs’ three playoff games, was asked to name some of the best receivers he has faced.

On Davante Adams, SMB said he had the best feet of any receiver he manned up on. Cooper Kupp, SMB said, was “dangerous.” And SMB gave special shoutouts to the dynamic duo of the Dixie Chicks.

McAfee asked SMB about Bucs speedy wideout Scotty Miller. SMB said, “Listen, Scotty’s gotten me… but I’ve gotten him.” SMB proceeded to talk about Miller in college. Both guys are MAC products. Each entered the draft in 2019. SMB went to Central Michigan; Miller to Bowling Green.

“He ran from me,” SMB said of Miller.

SMB didn’t mean that Miller blew past him for a big gain. Instead, Miller — or at least his coaches — avoided having Miller go up against SMB, playing Miller at slot.

Now the very first thing Joe thought of was, what the hell was the matter with then-Bowling Green coach Mike Jinks? He has a guy that can run past NFL corners in the playoffs and he was using Miller as a slot receiver?

Then Joe thought about this more and on second thought, it seemed almost brilliant. If Miller can burn NFL corners, imagine what a mismatch he would be against a MAC linebacker or safety? Man!

(Trivia: Jinks was the Texas Tech running backs coach when now-Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was the Red Raiders quarterback.)

Maybe that is why Jinks is now the running backs coach at USC?

    That was a fun watch

Scotty needs dad about 10 lb of quality weight to be effective in the slot in the NFL. He’d get crushed by linebackers and safeties in his current state.

I don’t like giving out information like that. Lets Andy Reid watch that film and make adjustments from it.

SOE he didn’t give out any info the Chiefs don’t already know.

As long as SMB gets to hold his jersey, he can keep up with Scottie :)-

But seriously, we need the young CB to continue to develop – he is making plays consistently when it counts most – I have blasted him all year, but he has shown up 3 weeks in a row

Fingers crossed he makes it 4 in a row soon

What is the deal with our coaches letting Miller talk smack about Hill? This would be like me saying I could beat Jerry Rice. It’s just stupid at best.

Were gonna need everyone playing thier hearts out to win this…its gonna be who wants it most and I believe we do!!! Keep the run game going with a balanced attack ..play actions and motions and take away hill and kelce..those are thier 2 weapons…def hill burned us big time but patty goes to kelce as a saftey net….defense KEEP UP THE INTENSITY AND HIT THEM SO HARD THEY DONT WANT TO CATCH IT

A few games back in the regular season SMB laid back too far off of receivers who would break off routes with sharp cuts right or left leaving SMB trailing far behind. Towards the last few games and into the playoffs he got more aggressive with tighter coverage. New confidence or better coaching?
