Packers Starting Corner May Miss NFC Championship

January 22nd, 2021

May face backup CB Sunday.

Mixed bag of good and bad news today for Bucs fans.

So the Bucs had bad news about Antonio Brown.

Then got good news about the return of Vita Vea.

Now here is wait-and-see news.

Packers starting corner Kevin King did not practice for Green Bay today. Per Packers coach Matt LeFleur, King had a sudden back issue arise.

King is a pretty good, not as good as Jaire Alexander, but good. In his place would likely be Josh Jackson, one of Tristan Wirfs’ old teammates at Iowa.

Jackson is an iffy corner. Drafted in the second round in 2018, Jackson hasn’t really panned out like the Packers had hoped. He started five games this season.

Joe will take any of the top three or four Bucs receivers against a backup in a heartbeat.

Beating the CB is only half the battle. Now the QB getting the ball to him is a different story. Gronk running wide open twice last week and Brady missed him both times. We might need that play if we wanna beat Green Bay.

Once was 3rd & 2. Fans have been relentless about the playcall……Well fans, I got news for ya. When you have a reciever running wide open and the QB has the protection needed to make the pass its a great playcall. Yall are dead wrong(at least on that one call). Dont matter how good the playcaller is…..if your players cant make the play.

  2. NoBody Says:

Jimmy Jack idk what play you are referring to but in real life, QBs miss plays. Patrick Mahomes (who may not be human) has missed his #2 WR Tyreek Hill WIDE OPEN on several occasions (I have them in fantasy this year and can tell you from personal experience watching). What matters is a win. At the end of the day and at the end of the season, it’s all about the ever evasive W. And so far, we have found her. Two more to go and us Bucs fans will have something to remember 2020 by that doesn’t rhyme with Rabona Cyrus.

  3. Joe in Michigan Says:

JimmyJack: Are you referring to the 2 plays where the ball went of Gronk’s fingertips? I’m legitimately asking the question, I only watch the game once, when it’s live.

  4. James Marlow Says:

    Yes. Those were the plays.

  5. TampaTown Says:

I NEVER want any player to get injured but I still take this as good news.

  6. Pewter Power Says:

This is irrelevant, they got one of their veteran corners back for this game who was starter and king replaced that guy. Not even worried out our offense. Saints and Washington defense way better without or without king.

  7. Bucfan81 Says:

Damn everyone keeps picking the packers in this one. Bucs better bring it on Sunday.

  8. Joe in Michigan Says:

Off topic, other than making a Green Bay/Tom Brady comparison…When I was a kid, my cousin (who was a Packer fan) was telling me about how Green Bay gave up a slew of high draft picks for a 34 year old John Hadl. He showed me a football card of Hadl, he was fat and balding, looked like a 60 year old bum. Here the Bucs have a 43 year old Brady, who looks like he’s 28 years old. So happy to have him, and the Bucs didn’t have to give up two 1st Rounders, two 2nd Rounders, and a 3rd Rounder to get him, unlike the Packers and Hadl.

  9. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Let’s beat their best

  10. Mitch Says:

Antoine Winfield didn’t practice today and is questionable for the game. Dang it. Hopefully it’s a similar thing where Jordan Whitehead was limited Friday with a knee and still played.

  11. JimmyJack Says:

Joe in Michigan……Yes Im referring to one of those 2. Pretty sure the one in the endzone. It was 3rd and 2 on that play according to my radio. TBH i didnt even remember the down and distance til reminded. I generally dont pay too strict of attention to down and distance, especially with this team who can dial up any play at anytime.

Nobody that is a very good point. And its good to keep that in prospective. I really dont sweat every little play too hard. But when I look at halftime and see our offense only scored 6 points(the TD was a basic gimme) i feel like we should be putting up more……But your overall point is right. Just make the plays to win………..Something Id actually really like to see(adide from the heartburn it will cause) is for Brady to get the ball in his hands late with a chance to drive for victory. These are the types of plays you do gotta make to win in this league, as you were saying………49ers lost a SB last year because they couldnt make that play. And yes we all know Brady can do it but it is worth noting he is 0-2 as a Buc in thise situations(which is all that matters to me……..Once vs the Bears when he forgot it was 4th down and 2nd on the pick to seal a loss to the Rams.

  12. alton green Says:

Brady misses Gronk? whoever heard of such a thing. Been a Brady fan since his freshman at Mi. No matter if he misses a few, there is that “W” when the clock says “00” Remember SB 51? behind 25 pts with about 2 min. left in the 3rd qtr

  13. Fernando Says:

Winfield is injury report as questionable ankle

  14. Mitch Says:

If Winfield can’t go( I hope he can) we’ll know that he donated his ankle to Vita Vea for this game. Next man up!

  15. Scooter Says:

Fact is Bucs beat Packers in reg. season without AB or Vita. Bucs coaches I’m sure devoured film of last years Packers loss to San Fran in NFC Championship game and the Colts and Vikings losses this year, looking for a pattern or common thread.

  16. Brandon Says:

Even more importantly is who the Packers 4th CB is. Scotty Miller may be our 4th WR but he would be a #2 for most of the teams in the league. Miller against a #4 CB? I’ll take that. Not even a fan of AB but if he were healthy the Packers would really be suffering.

  17. Gofortheface30 Says:

So, Um, ok, but what about Winfield Joe. Did this ankle injury occur during game – or did it happen in practice this week? If it’s the latter then that is not good. He was a “full participant” all week, then today he’s a non. Cool!

  18. 813bucboi Says:

    jimmyjack

    i agree…

    player execution is key…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  19. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

If you put a gun to my head and asked me would I rather have Mt. Vea for half the game or all day Antonio Brown, I would pick the Mountain Man!
But, we gotta have the ball hawk and playa’ in the secondary! Come on Winfield! Let’s go!

  20. atlBucs Says:

Has anyone noticed that when the talking heads say that Green Bay is gonna win they say, because of AAron Rogers. They have no other compelling arguments. They don’t say, “The Packers are going to rub the ball down Tampa’s throat” or, “Tampa’s DB’s cant cover GB’s receivers” or, “Tampa’s Oline cannot stop GB’s Dline”. Nothing but “Aaron Rogers will win”. It feels like they think he’s due a super bowl appearance, like he’s entitled to one. But, the truth of the matte is, Green Bay is not that good. The have the 13 best run defense, a lot lower than the Saints’. But get this: They only beat 3 teams this year with winning records!!!! That’s including the 9-7 Rams they beat in the playoffs last week. Bucs fans, what we saw in week 6 was real! They just don’t match p good with us.

  21. David Says:

Their DBs are very similar to ours. They have one who can be real good and everyone else is average. Lately, however, both groups have been playing much better.
The Buccaneers are better at stopping the run and have better linebackers.
They have one pass rusher who is real good but…
I would put my money on our
    O- line

    LFG!

  22. David Says:

    Atlbucs…

I was thinking that before the playoffs started when they kept saying how the Bucs have not beaten other playoff teams. I kept thinking, the Packers haven’t really beat anyone either! It does not matter too much, both teams have been playing very well.
To me, they have a great quarterback, one great receiver, a good running back, one good CB… everyone else is average.
The Buccaneers have a better quarterback, more great receivers, running backs you are just as good when utilized, a better D line, better linebackers, one good CB, and a bunch of others who have been playing better and better

  23. unbelievable Says:

Winfield was listed yesterday too, and participated fully.

Unless he tweaked it more late in the day, I think he’ll be good to go. Which is good cuz we’re gonna need him!

  24. Jmarkbuc Says:

I think the reason TB12 came to Tampa is he wanted to beat Mahomes on a SB… not an AFC Chip game, but the SB.

    Ice up son.

All we need is some D.

  25. Oxycondoms Says:

    Bucs dont use brown anyways

  26. Capt.Tim Says:

Why isnt anyone talking about Godwin’s struggles?
Its gotta be the finger, because he is a fantastic WR.
But something has been wrong for two games now.

  27. Tom M Sumner Says:

    LFG.

  28. WillieG Says:

“Joe will take any of the top three or four Bucs receivers against a backup in a heartbeat.“ —- Wow! We really do have 3 or 4 receivers good enough to beat a backup. Life is good.

  29. Joe in Michigan Says:

Oxycondumb: Antonio Brown, in 8 games: 45 catches, 486 yards, 4 TD’s. That’d be 90 catches, 966 yards, 8 TD’s in a 16 game season. Do you actually watch the Bucs play?

  30. Thisisouryear!! Says:

Jimmyjack- I would give Brady a break. I think the saints D should be ranked #1 plus they know us. Everyone says we should have been throwing the ball. When they decided to play their safeties deep they were daring us to run the ball. We did it and looked strong. I think Brady and the offense will play well. I’m more worried about their O against our D. Rodgers has been hot. I expect a high scoring game. Go Bucs!!

  31. Capt.Tim Says:

Anyone notice that Carlton Davis SHUTOUT Michael Thomas?
And Donovan Smith has absolutely dominated his guy, the last two games?
    Worth mentioning.
Although I think RoJo will be the talk, after the game!

  32. Oxycondoms Says:

Joe in michigan brown did well when evans got hurt. When he is third option not so much. Brown scored on busted coverage vs redskins than was silent rest of the game as well as the saints game. Josh mcdaniel,
Sean payton , And reid , mvcay wouldnt be struggling winning playoff games if they had the weapons the bucs have . The bucs weakness is coaching

  33. Listnfrmafar Says:

The 3rd and short bombs are BA’s no risk it no Biscuit philosophy and I hate it, I get it if it’s 2nd and short but 3rd down takes you off the field, very low %. It’s like playing holdem and going all in with a pair of 3’s. You don’t need to be a defensive genius to know Bucs will run dive first down and sideline burst on 3rd & short, it’s so predictable. So if Bucs lose play calling could be why. As far as Gronk dropped passes, one in end zone DB was all over his back and got a hand in and the second Gronk cut to late and wasn’t able to get to the ball. The pass left Brady’s hand just as.Gronk cut, Brady throws to a spot. I do agree not enough short crossing patterns. Godwin may still have issues this week, bad quad and finger in the cold weather could be a factor same for Rojo.
