Establish A Clutch Player

January 10th, 2021

Cemented as Bucs’ No. 1.

Last week Bucs fans were in horror at the sight of star receiver Mike Evans’ buckling on a would-be touchdown pass, slipping and sliding on the wet turf in the end zone at the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway.

Evans struggled to get off the field and it looked for sure he was done for at least a few games.

Then test results showed he had no structural damage, just a hyperextension. Six days after his injury he was working over the Washington defense.

Evans ended the game with 119 yards on 10 catches. Damn good game, especially for a guy no one thought he would ever suit up six days prior.

Nick Shook of NFL.com documented how last night’s performance, given what happened a week ago, cemented Evans as one of the NFL’s elite players and clutch performers.

Mike Evans overcame a scary knee injury suffered last week to again prove he’s a rare offensive talent. The big-bodied receiver finished with a line of six catches for 119 yards, and while he was shut out of the end zone, his presence helped open up his teammates in an offense that plays no favorites, thanks to Brady’s ability to spread the ball around. … … Tampa Bay remains a dangerous team with a quick-strike offense that can wipe out field-position advantages as quick as one completion down the sideline to Evans. They did just that Saturday night, and they’re moving on because of this ability.

Think of that last sentence: The Bucs are moving on in the playoffs because of Evans.

A year ago in the playoffs, Joe would have heard that and asked person who speaking for a glass on the rocks of whatever he was drinking.

Now Evans has lead the Bucs to a playoff win. Not that Evans wasn’t capable because he surely was and is, but who on earth thought in January 2020 the Bucs would be two wins from a Super Bowl?

Fun, fun times to be in, folks.

I really hope we get a home game, but the way we’re playing on the road, let’s just keep going. Here comes the next contestant!

  2. Mike C Says:

Joe, the stadium is called Raymond James…… you are not getting any cash out of them, just type the correct name bro.

  3. Infomeplease Says:

ME has always played his best, game in and game out! Yesterday’s playoff game was no exception. He Played Like He Had 2 Good Knees! GO BUCS!!

  4. snookman Says:

awesome run, awesome season, but it ends next week. Im sorry that secondary is too difficult to overcome talented teams like the Saints or Rams.

  5. OHBucFan Says:

M1K3 is a pleasure to watch. Thrilled that he’s moved away from offensive pass interference trends this year but Dungy ASSumed that the flag thrown in Q1 was ME’s fault? Turns out it was a face mask. Whoops, Tony.
Tirico also mentioned Fournette’s smart play to stay in bounds and inferred that Mike didn’t do this the play before. I was surprised that no one mentioned that ME was still dealing with a knee injury. Heaven forbid that he doesn’t take an unnecessary shot on a play that yielded a first down.
We’re watching a truly great player play.

This guy is headed to the hall of fame!
He got the talentless Johnny Manzell drafted
He carried the wildly inaccurate Jameis YWinston for years.
Without Evans- one is out of the league, one is a 3rd string QB.

With a real QB- Evans will finally get the recognition he deserves!

  7. HeyItsAdam Says:

Toward the end of the game he made a sliding catch and went over the sidelines wincing in pain. The replay showed that he caught the ball with his man-parts. I was all like “ow.” A Tom Brady rifle shot to the chicky-nuggies. Even I bent over on the sofa seeing it.

  8. SlyPirate Says:

HeyItsAdam. I was wondering what he injured. He caught the ball with his balls. He ball sacked it. Is that where the phrase, “Don’t throw me junk,” came from?

  9. Darin Says:

Washington helped em out with that coverage. As soon as they lined up i knew Brady was going deep to Evans. First time all night I remember them having 9 guys near the los. I’m guessing every time Evans gets a one on one with no safety help its going to him. The d coordinator wants that one back. Great throw too.

  10. WiscoJoe Says:

TWO WINS FROM THE FREAKING SUPER BOWL. Why not us?

So stoked for guys like him and Lavonte to get their first playoff win!
(Hopefully Lavonte reams out his fellow defenders for their weak play last night too)

On an offense with all this talent, I am glad to see that they are recognizing ME13 is the guy you have to feed often. He is the biggest matchup problem, and to me he looks like hes really dialed in for the post season. Hoping that CG is ok. Im not sure i saw him drop this many passes all season long. We knew all year long the run to the SB would have to go through the Saints, lets line it up again and see where we stand. Its been a very enjoyable season. Go Bucs!

  14. Christos Says:

And to think many Bucs fans ( inluding in this site) have asked to trade Evans. Like you can replace a player like that. He is a great player, unselfish and always there in the field if he can walk. These are the players you built a team. Evans is a Buccaneer and he will be one of the greats.

  15. FrankPillow Says:

Warrior. He stepped up with Godwin struggling mightily and was as he’s been around here for a long time…Clutch.

ME 13 is the best offensive player in Bucs history.

Fcuk the Saints! We can beat them when we don’t beat ourselves.

  22. JimmyJack Says:

It was really awesome seeing our homegrown Mike Evans lead the way last night. But Id also like to give a hattip to another homegrown player with a hige game. Cameron Brate. He was huge last night. And lets give some great credit to Byron for scheming Brate open. No doubt having Gronk is gonna demand a lot of attention. This left Brate in singular coverage and Byeon took advantage all day. It was masterful playcalling to be honest…….Alls i kept thinking all game was how quiet Gronk had been(not counting several great blocks he had) and how we were getting ready to see him make a few big plays. And the big plays kept coming to the tight end. It was just Brate making the plays every time………Many of yall have nitpicked Leftwitch all year. Thats fine. Just be fair and give him credit when he calls a great game like he did against the Redskins.

    GO BUCS!!!

  23. JimmyJack Says:

1987. Yep. We have not been able to match up with the Saints fir years now. I am one very confident Buc fan but that matchup does scare me. As great as a Super Bowl sounds i think giving this team a two year window, instead of the one year most fans seem to think, is more realistic.

It does usually take more then one year for a team thats never been there before. Historically speaking………With the Bucs I think they may need one more season to add a few missing pieces needed to compete with the Saints and take the division. But hey, its sports. Anything can happen so keep your fingers crossed.

    GO BUCS!!!

  24. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Agree, saying we are going to lose next is NOT being a fan!! I don’t have a lot of confidence in the D either but damn the O just manhandled a good defensive line and moved the ball with relative ease. Washington new were gonna throw more than run and they couldn’t do anything about it.
I’ve are alive and until they are not, they are heading to the SUPER BOWL!!

  25. Listnfrmafar Says:

Redemption is sweet and Godwin will redeem himself and go off next week. Love it no one covered Brate. Too many weapons. Evan’s a true leader on this team, he’s gotta love Brady. Kudos to Scotty & AB they came up big also.

  26. Mattspy05 Says:

Remember when you all burned his jersey?

  27. alton green Says:

well the Saints next week. Dear Lord please perform a miracle and help our secondary and also our O-line. They’ve been playing really good and they will need to step it up against the Saints O-line. If we play like we have been (the secondary) Brees will carve us up for a 3rd time in one year

  28. Anonymous Says:

Big Mike should not see the practice field this week…maybe walk thrues!!!

  29. Patrickbucs Says:

    Best player on the team

  30. Buczilla Says:

My prediction of Mike having Tecmo Bowl numbers this season went to hell, but despite some injuries, Mike proved again why he is the best wideout in the NFL since Moss and A. Brown.

  31. Brady is a cheater Says:

It’s easy to play when you get shot up with all those pain killers before the game. I say take away the needle against the Saints, prove he can do it without the drugs
