“We Just Missed A Protection”
December 2nd, 2020Courtesy of the Kansas City Chiefs, here’s a great video breakdown of a pass-blocking fail that led to what might have been the Chiefs’ biggest play of the game.
It’s Sunday’s first interception throw by Tom Brady. Immediately after Chris Godwin’s fantastic catch of a gorgeously thrown Brady 44-yard bomb, the Bucs decided to ask Ronald Jones to block rather than carry the rock from the Chiefs’ 36 yard line. They went for back-to-back home run balls and paid the price.
All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu badly juked RoJo on a blitz and got to Brady as he threw the ball, causing the underthrow and the pick.
Asked about the interception on his radio show last night, Arians said “we just missed a protection,” without naming Jones.
The film video below spotlights that play and notes how the Chiefs had 11 pressures and 8 quarterback hits of Brady.
For Joe, that was an untold story of the game, a nothing special Chiefs pass rush had a good day against the Bucs’ starting offensive line/pass blockers.

Yep….Rojo got beat by a great player……interceptions aren’t always on the QB…

And somewhere in Atlanta Dirk Koetter is smiling and thinking…”I told you so.”
JW had enough issues in decision making without a back showing how poorly he blocks.

So ROJO was doing a Donovan Smith impersonation.
Maybe he just wants a 10 million dollar raise?
I mean it works for the new Softie right?

It was a bad play design- Miller is not a physical receiver- a screen or draw may have been a good play in that situation.

It’s still a bad decision on Brady. It’s first down. Throw the ball out of bounds hell take a sack. Other options were available other than a jump ball to the shortest guy on the team

I’ve been defending the Bucs offensive line for years and that the problem was with the blitz pickups by the TEs and RBs. The front five have been average to above average for years.

Scotty Miller shouldn’t have let that happen get called for offensive pi but don’t let that happen to ur qb

No matter how you look at it it was a Winston type move. He should have not let it go if he was under that much pressure. it is on him nobody else it was picked.

We just missed a protection, why? Why we messing up 12 weeks in. Players get beat it happens, but at this stage of the season players shouldn’t be making so many mistakes. We play like our coaching, scatter shot.

Nobody will agree with me but that’s a touchdown if the blitz gets picked up. Miller is starting to pull ahead of the dB . Brady has to throw it early and quick without stepping into it. Not saying he should’ve thrown it. Should’ve thrown it in the dirt . Easy for me to say . Blitzer was coming fast. Ro even gets a piece of him and that’s 6.
