No Lions Coach Saturday

December 24th, 2020

[UPDATE: 10:22 a.m.] Seems like the Lions will be coached on defense by quality control assistants.

The Lions will be on their third head coach of the season Saturday when they host the Bucs.

Interim Lions coach Darrell Bevell, who took over for fired Matt Patricia, didn’t get canned. (Yet.) But he won’t be at Ford Field Saturday when the Bucs arrive as he is down with the COVID, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The NFL prohibits coaches from doing their gameday jobs remotely. For example, an NFL coach can’t sit at home on a cell phone and call in or text plays to an assistant or quarterback on the sidelines, etc.

Joe hopes Bevell improves. But man, the Bucs must pounce on these Lions.

The team was in disarray to begin with. Now, with its interim coach away from the stadium, it’s even more chaos for a really bad team.

[UPDATE: 10;22 a.m.] Basically, the Lions will be without their top three defensive coaches the team announced in a twitter this morning. (The Lions have handed the defense over to a stat geek! Is he allowed to have a calculator on the sidelines?)

This is when we historically lose. When it seemingly looks like everything should be in our favor we crap the bed.

  2. The Red Mirage Says:

No Lions coaches? It’s probably an improvement.

  3. Casual Observer Says:

    ALM – Exactly. Beware.

  4. meh Says:

Trap game. It would be a great week to fix those slow starts.

  5. Cobraboy Says:

Disappointed. I want teams at full strength.

He isn’t sick, his bullspit “close contact” buzzer went off, so the NFL overreacts for the CCP Flu.

  6. ModHairKen Says:

Get the lead. Pressure Stafford. Run the ball.

Pass as often as possible to Evans.

Forget the Lions and their problems.

  7. Ftmyersbuc Says:

Jesus this site has so many ptsd bucs fans. We are gonna kill the lions. They are going to run the most vanilla defense you’ve ever seen. If are boys are sharp we should get a couple free plays. Catching them with 12 during substitutions on 3rd downs. This is either abucs blowout or a shootout we win.

  8. John Sinclear Says:

A wounded cat is the most dangerous. Better get those whips and chairs ready.

  9. Joe in Michigan Says:

Bucs are coming to Michigan to “collect the rent”, as Warren Sapp would say. The Bucs have every reason to bring their A-Game (playoffs), and the Lions have every excuse to roll over and take a beat down (no coaches, bad team, baby blue uniforms).

  10. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Call it PTSD…that’s probably accurate. If they were somehow to lose this game…they simply don’t deserve to be in the playoffs is how I see it.

  11. Sourbob Says:

Great opportunity to force feed ME.

  12. Joe Says:

Great opportunity to force feed ME.

    AMEN!

  13. richbucsfan Says:

    Seriously, if the Bucs lose…SMH

  14. Piratic Says:

Cobraboy is Dunce of the Day!

  15. Tackleblockwin Says:

I wonder if Brady realizes ME needs 221 yards in next two games to make history?

  16. webster Says:

Piratic havent you heard its all a hoax, fake news and fraud.

  17. Joe in Michigan Says:

Piratic: Why you gotta call Cobraboy names?

  18. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

This is terrifying to every long time Buc fan!!

  19. Howard Cosell Says:

Bucs need to prepare like they’re playing KC

  20. DRFEELGOOD Says:

We are gonna KILL the Lions! I agree with feed ME13. He could get 200 yards in this game. I have been a Bucs fan from Day 1 at 9 years old, so I get the PTSD. However, previous Bucs teams haven’t had this talent. Stafford is gonna play hurt, I don’t think Golladay is playing, and we need this to clinch the playoffs. This will be a blowout! P.E.R.I.O.D.

  21. rrsrq Says:

They really should move the game to Monday night/afternoon.

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Do our players need any more motivation than to get to the playoffs for the first time since 2008?…….

We need to take this game seriously….this is the time of year when the unexpected happens……need I say more than Jets beating Rams or Bengals beating Steelers?

  23. Godlovesbucs Says:

Rrsrq- ita not a popular team (raiders, steelers, ravens) so they wont move the game. Remember, the league let denver start a practice squad wr at qb as opposed to moving that game. They dont care about coaches.

  24. Perimeter Blocker Says:

I am no Lions fan but this is ridiculous. I would be beside myself if this was happening to the Bucs. The Bucs should be ready for anything. If I am coaching the Lions I run all of my trick plays and try to have some fun….

  25. windbaggery Says:

We really ought to shred them. That, in Bucs history, usually means we’ll struggle.

But, assuming we don’t go braindead, this would be the game to just load up on targets for Evans to get him on track for that record.

  26. Cobraboy Says:

Loyal Comrade Piratic is just butthurt I can use my excessive critical thinking skills, honed sharp by native intellect and experience, to not get easily snookered by The Progressive Overlords like he is.

Progs go unhinged about those they cannot control.

    Molon Labe.

  27. Cobraboy Says:

The Bucs lose to the Lions, and the wheels come off the season.

    Take nothing for granted.

Do not forget that this time last week casual fans were predicting a massive slaughter of the Falcons.

Nothing is as good or as bad as it seems…

  28. orlbucfan Says:

Bucs owe the Lions a major whipping. I will never forget during the Gruden era, Bucs went to Detroit and played there. This was the year when Gruden decided he didn’t like second year (pretty sure) WR Michael Clayton. So, Clayton was open season every time he went out on the field. Sure enough, he caught a pass on the sidelines and was creamed out of bounds by 2 defenders. It was blatant unsportsmanlike conduct. Clayton was on the ground and done for the season. He never came back 100%. No Lions were ejected nor fined. Where was Chucky’s outrage?

  29. Buc50 Says:

If I was a Lion’s fan I would be happy. Less chance for the coaches to screw up a top ten pick.

  30. Piratic Says:

@webster: Yes, I’ve heard those opinions. They all seem to come from the same type of people. Surely you’ve noticed this, as well.

@Joe in Michigan: Well… since you asked: When people provide a cogent argument based on facts, I often take a moment to let them know that I appreciated their take. Conversely, when someone makes an absurd, reckless or dangerous statment, (especially when that someone makes those statements based on their political or religious identity) I also find the time to ridicule their point of view. As a citizen of this country, I am afforded this right, and I choose to exercise its use. Simple.

  31. Kgh4life Says:

Knowing the Bucs, they’ll somehow screw this up.

  32. TheBradyBunch Says:

Stfu cobra boy! Some of us have lost family members due to idiots like you following Trump into Fantasy Land denial.

  33. Piratic Says:

Since the entirety of my response has been deleted, I’ll simply choose to do what I’ve always done: Tolerate the children, and have cogent conversations with the adults in the room.

  34. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Perimeter Blocker

Apparently the Bucs are without coaches all week and through the first half of games anyway…

  35. TbT813 Says:

    10-5 here we come!

  36. August 1976 Buc Says:

Just win the game and look improved doing it. That is all that want to see. If Mike gets 100+ yards that would be gravy. Just win and show improvement. GO BUCS!!!!
