December 4th, 2020Since the start of the 2019 season, no man has more forced fumbles in the NFL than Shaq Barrett.
Yes, sacks aren’t everything.
Shaq’s key strip-sack of Patrick Mahomes on Sunday spared the Bucs a humiliating defeat, Joe believes. It was Shaq’s eighth forced fumble since joining the Bucs.
For a little perspective, only once has Lavonte David had more than two forced fumbles in a season (2017), and Saints stud edge rusher Cameron Jordan has seven forced fumbles in the past eight years. That’s right, years.
“Coming off that back side sometimes he’s great at chopping the quarterback’s arm,” Bucco Bruce Arians told Buccaneers Radio this week, “and he’s got great quickness and he does a great job of timing it up and knocking the ball out.”
The greatest display of Bucs quarterback stripping that Joe has seen goes to defensive end Greg White, who later became Stylez White. He pounced into the NFL from the Arena league and had seven forced fumbles as a part-time player in 2007, the Bucs’ last playoff season.
Simeon Rice felt like the all-time master of the strip/sack. Twice with the Bucs (2003 and 2005) he had six forced fumbles, the same total Shaq had last year.

He’d probably have even more if we stopped dropping him into coverage.

I hate to admit but the Saints are really good at drafting or mighty lucky.

Wow, bad fact checking Joe. LVD has been one of the league best at forcing fumbles and has bested 2 FF for multiple years. There have been only 3 years where he DIDNT top 2 FF.

@Jason- 100%. But that’s one of the problems with the 3-4, every once in a while you can only rush 3.
And as noted By others, those stats on LVD are wrong.
