Watch For These Plays

The new Scotty Miller?

It’s always fun when Greg Cosell breaks down Bucs tape.

Cosell, the long-time NFL Films X’s and O’s guru and in-house producer, does a great job of breaking down film to understand how teams attack opponents.

Of course, Cosell was studying Bucs tape in preparation for the Monday Night Football game between the Bucs and the Rams. On one play, Cosell showed how park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, jet-ski-losing Bucs quarterback Tom Brady had Scotty Miller expose the Saints defense in Week 1.

The Saints and Rams run very similar pass coverages, Cosell explained, so he can picture some plays that worked for the Bucs against the Saints could be used Monday night.

Cosell made a not-so-subtle reference that a highlighted play of Miller will likely go to furniture-tossing, bike-throwing Antonio Brown.

Another play Cosell noted is how the Bucs used Mike Evans to expose a hole in the Saints defense.

So just based on two plays and Cosell’s deep understanding of the NFL, he seemed to think Brown and Evans might have big impacts against the Rams.

You can see the BSPN clip below.

Not withstanding AB’s talents, Which is faster, he or Scotty?

  2. Ct Says:

    Go Bucs!

  3. Augsut 1976 Buc Says:

If Brady has time, he will slice and dice them up, just like anyone he plays against. So here comes the kitchen sink from the Rams pass rush. The Bucs are going to be ready and play well. Prime time blues, NOT this week. As others have said here, if they do not get to Brady then you can not beat the Bucs. GO BUCS!!!!

  4. Tampa Bay!!! Says:

Drew Brees put on injured reserve.

Jamies Winston is finally taking us to the playoffs!!!!

  5. Fred mcneil Says:

    Wtf is he smoking?
    The Aints killed our bucs

  6. All lives matter Says:

The Rams are gonna have to pick their poison. Double ME and let AB loose or double AB at let ME battle man to man. I think they will double on AB and put their best corner on ME.

This makes the TE’s the slot and RB interesting as well if AB and ME can sell it.

Tom will find the one on one if given a sliver of time. He usually already has a presnap ideal who it might be but needs the time to have it develop and take advantage. If he’s being pressured he looks for dump offs.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs beat the Rams last year 55-40 predominately thanks to … TURNOVERS. As in the Rams had FOUR; Bucs had ONE. It’s quite unlikely that’ll be repeated this year because the Rams’ offense is much more BALANCED this year than it was last year. They ran the ball only 11 times in last year’s game vs 70 passing attempts (and Goff had 3 INTs); this year they’re running slightly more than 45% of the time (and Goff is averaging .7 INTs/game).

Both teams last year had a ridiculous number of penalties. Bucs had 12-for-99 yds. Rams had 13-for-106 yds. Don’t expect to see that happen again for either team.

Bucs last year were 8-for-13 on 3rd & 4th down conversions (61.5% is excellent of course). Rams last year were only 4-for-12 on 3rd & 4th down conversions (33.3% is not good, and they’re doing much better this year with their more BALANCED ATTACK).

Rams’ starting offense has FOUR new players: RB, WR & 2 OL. They’re on-track to score almost exactly the same number of pts this year as they did last year (had 394 pts in 2019). BUT … their attack is different & much more BALANCED (had 38.3% run-pass in 2019 vs 45.6% run-pass in 2020).

Rams’ starting defense is almost totally remade with SEVEN new starters (mostly on the back-end) AND a new DC. The improvement has been dramatic. They ranked #17 last year in POINTS ALLOWED (22.8 PPG), but this year rank #2 (18.7 PPG) after their 9 games. Very solid across-the-board in terms of rushing defense & passing defense.

IOW, no obvious weaknesses on defense & a very respectable offensive attack, although their S/Ts has been yuck. If the Bucs are to beat them Monday night, BOTH our offense AND our defense better bring their A-game right from the git-go. If either starts slow & we fall behind early, we most likely won’t catch up against this defense.

  8. D1 Says:

    All lives matter,

If you had to pick between shutting down ME or AB , ME is the easier task to accomplish with a single defender, so you may be right! Godwin may draw the 3rd guy and I believe Godwin can beat their 3rd corner or one of safeties. AB , if he gets the 2nd corner, will torch em.

Their outside corners can stick with ME and Godwin 1 to 1 and shut them down. But then what… AB, Gronk, Miller, Johnson, fornette, Brate, these guys are going to have opportunies depending upon the pressure of the rams front 4 .

  9. D1 Says:

    ALM,

If they put miller and AB outside , ME slides in the slot and who doesn’t bet the farm on ME in that situation.

  10. Hodad Says:

Nothing will matter if we don’t have an answer for Donald.

  11. gofortheface30 Says:

Joe wont like this, and neither will some fans – but AB may be a huuuuuuge part of this game. AB is their one guy to make plays in space and can be moved around the most. And frankly – I dont see Evans doing much of anything against Jalen Ramsey. I think Evans can win some 50/50 balls on posts and fades, but Brady is a bit more risk averse and throws to open guy – im having a hard time seeing Evans having a big game. MAybe some fans’ that are smarter than me can tell me how I’m wrong. I HOPE im wrong, i just dont see it

  12. gofortheface30 Says:

HODAD – youre not wrong, but I think were all over the top fearful of their d-line, its getting ridiculous. Our offense had a GD field day against that same d-line last yr, and Jameis was having himself a lovely picnic eating cheese crackers and drinking wine in that beautiful pocket of his. They put up 55 points. I’ fine with having some respect for opponent, but lets not go in to this game like a bunch of limp wristed pansies. The real question is, what are they going to do about US

  13. Rico 210 Says:

@face30 that’s the mindset ALL Bucs fans should have. Don’t sell our team short. Killer mentality people. Screw the Rams! This is Tampa
    Go Bucs

  14. Wayne PEREZ Says:

If ab is a big part of the game so be it we want to win the guy is a great talent

  15. Jersey buc Says:

Ramsey will take one of the 3 out. The other 2 need to step up and ball.

  16. SOEbuc Says:

AB started breaking out of his shell last week. This could be sick if they can all get on track and start spreading the ball around.

  17. $acbuc$ Says:

There’s no defense for a perfect pass. We got the Goat so who cares about jalen. Tom gonna bullet one pass his head right into Mike hands. Ball placement huge ball radius and leaping ability can beat any corner in this league. Get off Ramsey sack. That fool can’t out jump Mike on his best day. Run the ball and pull a few guards his way he will be gassed second half. Lean on him with a couple TEs and RBs then make him tackles early. Let Lenny dip on him a few times and see if he pester Mike all game. That’s how you do a threat on defense. You send a heavy load his way early so by 4th quarter his legs is rubber. I would run Go routes on him for the first 3 quarters. Everyone Ramsey is on just run him way out of the play. That’s what Couch Coach would do.

  18. orlbucfan Says:

ME13 and CG14 are gradually getting back to 100%. Combine them with Brate, RG, Miller, AB the headcase, and Fournette. Methuselahs BA and TB better bring their A games Monday night. This Bucs fan will be listening for it.

  19. Ryan Jensen’s Hair Says:

Wanna neutralize Aaron Donald? Run the ball. Right at his gap assignment. Use play action and use his upfield rush aggression against him
