Tony Romo: Bucs Will Face Chiefs In The Super Bowl

November 29th, 2020

Impressed. Very impressed.

For those who stuck with today’s CBS broadcast after the Chiefs’ crushing late first down — and didn’t break their remotes — former Pro Bowl quarterback and CBS game analyst Tony Romo declared the Bucs a Super Bowl team.

In fact, Romo said he believes fans were just treated to a Super Bowl preview.

Yes, Romo thinks it’ll be a Bucs-Chiefs Super Bowl in Tampa.

Joe finds that fascinating, in part because top FOX analyst Troy Aikman recently said he thinks the Bucs are the best team he’s seen this year. The context of Aikman’s comment was that the Bucs’ best was the best in the league; he wasn’t speaking about their performances in total.

Regardless, film-watching and astute analysts think the Bucs are a contender.

That’s not enough to make Joe feel great tonight, but it’s certainly something to think about.

Joe will give Romo credit for trying to use that Eastern Illinois University education he earned.

When, in 2034? Maybe. Mahomes will be the GOAT by then, passing the baton off to the next great Bucs QB. Tom Brady will be calling the game.

  2. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

    Romo sounded drunk

  3. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Lol.. not that it is not a possibility but what a outrageous prediction… too much in between

  4. CPN Says:

Bucs are going to make the playoffs, but the Super Bowl is a stretch.

  5. Pewter Power Says:

No one wants to see that rematch Bucs are scared to death of the chiefs. We need to steal the raiders game plan that was the worst

  6. bojim Says:

Speaks a lot coming from Romo who is more often right than not… Fingers crossed anyway.

  7. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Yeah, the national media jumped on the the Brady bandwagon but the problem is that the Bucs suck and they’ve proven it 3 of the last 4 games in convincing fashion. I haven’t seen anything to suggest the Bucs can beat a good team. Their defense is overrated, the DBs are lousy and Brady and the offense have been inconsistent to put it mildly. Can you honestly say this team can beat Seattle, LA, Green Bay in the playoffs let alone their remaining schedule. C’mon. Romo was just showing Brady some respect.

  8. Roy T. Buford Says:

    “Certainly something to think about…”

Not really. Aikman said his stuff before one bad game, and if I remember correctly, Romo said his BEFORE the game started today.

The Bucs have never had an all-star cast of players like this on both sides of the ball, even during their SB era. And it will be decades likely before they ever do again. The coaches just need to work it all to fruition. These guys can’t. It’s a waste. Sad, is the only reason BA and BL are here now is because no one got a clue Winston was a bust three years ago.

When they were 6-2, we had a situation one could call some “a fly in the oinment” here or there. What we have now is “The Bees.”

  9. EA Says:

I heard the same thing after they lost the first game to the saints, I keep hearing that they will be fine, they will progress, they’ll figure it out.
They have regressed I’m my opinion, they’ve been outplayed big time in the first half since the Sunday night game against the saints, yes they even got outplayed by carolina, they just got lucky against them in the forth quarter.

  10. Miller5252 Says:

Until the Bucs change their game plan they ain’t going to make it to the post season. You’re supposed to have one of the great minds in football and it looked like the same game plan that cost you a win last week. Scotty Miller and Brady were lighting it up the first half of the year and Brady was hitting on the long ball. They get AB and Brady looks so lost now and can’t come close to connecting down the field. Better spend the week off getting ready for a tough finish.

  11. Roy T. Buford Says:

Positive note: Marpet and Smith are both back, they played the whole game. Marpet had some cobwebs, but now they get some rest.

  12. the_end Says:

    LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    The Bucs are trash! Period!

  13. Blackmagic00 Says:

I heard it. And I feel it. I think this is the game that actually gets this team up and running. And with a bye? Yes! GO BUCS!!

  14. Roy T. Buford Says:

@Miller5252…I agree…to much spice doesn’t make dish better. AB talented, but he’s a late add and arguably, a curse. Scotty M. and Tom B. had some chemistry going. I don’t see with AB.

And I remain befuddled why they continue to line up with an empty backfield on 3rd and 2. They did this I think four times today. Everyone knew it was a pass of course. I think converted 2 of them.

And while I loved the TD pass on 4th down to Evans, why not get the first? Especially Evans dropping a few tonight.

  15. JustBucNwin Says:

Bucs haven’t shown they belong as a top tier NFC team let alone SB bound!

  16. BucsBro Says:

The best version of the Bucs can hang with any team (with the possible exception of the Saints). The defense isn’t the same without Vita, but it’s still solid. The offense can be very good if they get the playcalling right and figure out their pass protections.

It can still happen. No reason to think it can’t. Saw a lot of flashes today.

  17. Rico 210 Says:

Roy he made the statement when the game was over after the 1st down was made.
I’m not all doom and gloom like so many. We played a ok game. The bye is welcomed
    Go Bucs

  18. Blackmagic00 Says:

Unfortunately, our fan base is still the same trash fan base of all time. If we were to win the superbowl at home by 1 point on a last second 63 yard field goal they would b!+<# that we shouldn't have been in that position. Fan base=straight trash. GO BUCS!!

  19. Blackmagic00 Says:

Roy if you stayed to the end you would know Romo said this at the end. Another example of the trash fanbase. Good job Roy👍

  20. Miller5252 Says:

I’m with you Roy T, 3rd and 2 and you show that there is no way you’re running for it. It’s like this coaching staff has no creativity or they’re way too confident saying, “We’re gonna pass it and we don’t think you can stop it.” Need the week off to get a big enough shoe horn to get these coaches heads out of their a$$es

  21. The Daily Coroner Says:

Romo in less than 2 minutes of watching criticized Arians’ and Leftwich’s offense for not running motion plays or play action passes. He said that’s what Brady does best. Instead the Bucs kept going deep which is not what Brady does best. All you had to do was watch Brady miss Mike Evans deep on most of his passes.
Yes, Brady had two interceptions. But the offensive line, especially Donovan Smith, was terrible in pass blocking. It caused the interceptions and Brady to get knocked around like a ping-pong ball.
Also in less than two minutes Romo criticized Todd Bowles’ defense for running 2 deep safeties and trying to cover Tyreek Hill one on one instead of bringing safety help. If Carlton Davis III is our lockdown corner, we aren’t going very far.
Another pundit said it should be all about Tom Brady, not all about Bruce Arians or Byron Leftwich. Makes sense to me, but apparently not to those where it matters.

  22. BCULAW Says:

If we are the best team, why do we keep losing?

  23. Snook Says:

Once the Mahomes contract hits KCs cap in the upcoming years, they’ll be like Seattle. Just an above average team. Still enjoying his rookie contract years until the extension hits the cap.

  24. Cobraboy Says:

I can only assume Aikman & Romo have not seen the Saints play.

The NFL goes through New Orleans.

  25. unbelievable Says:

Yeah you just forgot to mention the caveat that Romo said, which is the offense has to do what it did in the end today. AKA mix it up, use short routes like slants, use your playmakers, USE PLAY ACTION, and go with tempo.

For some reason AriansLeftwichBrady keeps forgetting this each week.

  26. BucsBro Says:

    Coroner — agree 100%

  27. Roy T. Buford Says:

Well, guys, then Romo said it twice. He did do it before the game as well. Yeah, sorry, I left after the final Chiefs first down, along with the rest of the country.

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

Fat chance Tony. I’d love to see it but I see a mediocre inconsistent team with coaches who fail to make quick adjustments. The talent is there but like Bucs” teams of the past, too little too late in games. The Falcons are no joke and getting better while the Bucs are getting worse. The Bucs look like they’re headed to 9-7 maybe. Sportscasters keep talking about playoffs for the Bucs but I don’t see it. Our secondary is lost constantly. Why didn’t they just double team Hill at least after the first burn? The first half offensive play calling was garbage and I’m being generous. I hope they can turn it around and win out but right now, playing as they are, they’ll be lucky to win 2 more games. The Bucs had some good runs today but LeftArians is afraid to run on third and 2-3 yards. I think Leftwich is way way over his head and we are seeing the Peter Principal in full effect. Stop talking about playoffs. Forget about a Super Bowl. Fix what the problems are and stop making excuses for losing, just stop losing. It’s been a disappointing season so far for a team that’s underachieving. Facts.

  29. Wesley Says:

    My azz

  30. Of course Says:

This team isn’t sniffing the Super Bowl.

    Not happening this year.
I bet we only win 2 of the 4 games left. And whoop di do. All and teams.

We can’t beat the good teams.

  31. Kimbo Slice Says:

Better worry about the Ghost of Raheem Morris before starting the Super bowl talk. He took it out on his old boss today. I think he and Koetter will have a few tricks for the Bucs for old time’s sake. They’ve actually played better than the Bucs since he got hired. They certainly played the Saints better.

  32. Ct Says:

Bucs are an average team, SuperBowl participates I highly doubt it, but thanks for the mention Tony, still not sure how your seeing that.

  33. Natron Says:

If Joe Biden can be POTUS, then the Bucs can go to SB, don’t forget, this is 2020!

  34. firethecannons Says:

the idea that Bucs are going to superbowl is crazy lotta real good teams out there like Saints, Chiefs, Steelers and Bills, even Rams

Bucs are mediocre at best I think we beat the Lions and Falcons once to end with 9 wins only maybe 10 at most.

  35. Drunkinybor Says:

All the cry babies trashing the team are either bandwagon jumpers or havent been paying attention the past 10 years. This is the best team we are watching in a long long time. Yes I hoped we would be better but this team is 7-5 finally have a bye and have completely jelled yet. Im excited and encouraged by what I saw. Down 17-0 n the first they could have easily given up looking ahead to a week off. Suh played how I felt after that crappy back flip.. Pissed and his play revived the d line. Seems to me its the beginning of games thats killing us.

    Not if it requires cheating
    Count me out!

  37. Mike Johnson Says:

I always knew tony Romo was smokin some good weed. Got to get his supplier.

  38. UKBuccaneer Says:

The fact is that the bucs controlled the chiefs in the second half. The talent is there, the scheming is there. Why they have to find themselves in a deep hole before coming out to play is the head-scratcher.

  39. Allbuccedup Says:

Bucs will make the playoffs and lose the first game.
