Not Ready For Primetime

November 9th, 2020

Stinking up night games.

Joe is pretty confident that first thing this morning, NBC Sports president Pete Bevacqua was on the phone screaming at NFL chieftain Roger Goodell.

The conversation likely went along the lines of something like this:

“Roger you SOB, don’t you ever stick me with the damned Bucs again! Every time they play under the lights I swear Rutgers could beat them. Do you realize how much money those b@#$%ards cost me in ad revenue last night?

“I swear you try to shove those a-holes down my throat again, you and your NFL pals are going to pay me to televise them, not the other way around. We didn’t pay you damn near a billion dollars to televise an XFL team!”

Joe isn’t a big believer in coincidences and it appears whenever the Bucs play under the lights for a nationally broadcast game, the Bucs just blow chunks all over themselves. Last night was the latest example.

Right about now given recent history, the Bucs have to be about poison for network suits. But something odd happens every time the Bucs are the only game in the country at night. And it seems Arians is smelling a rat of some sort, too.

Arians today was asked about his team’s terrible play at night. He wasn’t specific but admitted he thinks there is a pattern.

“[There are] some things that I’m looking into, but right now there’s no change,” Arians said. “I’ll look into a couple of things – just have to work out the schedule.”

Joe wonders if the Bucs need a meeting or two during the day on Sunday/Monday/Thursday while they are waiting for kickoff. Or maybe they need another walkthrough prior to kickoff?

The only solution Joe has to the nightmare pattern of night games is for maybe Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to beg NFL scheduling honcho Howard Katz to limit the primetime games each year to one.

If it takes some cash under the table for Katz to get this done, Joe’s confident there are three network suits (at least) who will chip in for the fund.

can we please talk about the obvious issue, and quiet rift between mike evans and tom brady about who is the leader of the offense…

before brady arrived ME13 was the offensive superstar and leader…

    now it’s tom…

everyone has probably deferred but mike…

and now mike is being treated like a poo-put by tom…

    what’s up with that???

Not ready for prime time? They would have gotten their asses beat @ high noon.

Serious issues exist on O-line; TB12 never liked pressure even in NE.

Donovan Smith needs to either get serious or take a seat.

Bowles needs to rethink his D, too.

At this point a wildcard might be a reach and somebody other than JayMiss will be eating a W.

    Peace, out

  3. Steven007 Says:

Adam… The quarterback is always the leader of the offense. When JW was here Mike wasn’t the leader then either. And certainly TB is a much better leader than JW. Not sure where you’re going with that narrative.

  4. Soggy Says:

maybe we should shift our focus on the draft.. lol

  5. BucsFanSince89 Says:

Joe an XFL Team?? How dare you disrespect that league like that! That was a Peewee League performance! Even that is disrespecting..

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

I don’t care about any of the above. That game was a darn right embarrassment for our team. Outcaoched, outplayed, out hustled, and outclassed. General Custer could have done better. At least he fought until the end. people all across the USA watch us get clobbered. I’m still pissed guys. And you think we are Superbowl bound? Come on Main.

  7. ModHairKen Says:

Let it be. It’s over. On to Carolina.

  8. NPRSageBoy Says:

Hey, Mike Johnson: Nice Sleepy Joe imitation.

    Come on, Man

    Peace, out

  9. WiscoJoe Says:

Joe!! Go look at Daniel Jeremiah’s tweet. Mike Evans screaming he’s open in the seam and Brady throws it to the sideline incomplete. Something is wrong here.

  10. Greg Says:

    **********bREAKING NEWS*********
The Biden folks called One Buc to announce that they found some extra points for the Bucs–Bucs win 52-38!!

  11. REDZONE BA Says:

That UGLY performance across the board, and being televised in Primetime, made the loss unbearable for fans. Worse for the Bucs is the repeating pattern highlighted for our opponents for the formula to frustrate Brady — PRESSURE. He is more of a statue in the pocket than I recall from his NE days and has zero escapability. At least he does not fumble with sacks – that is a positive takeaway. Absent of this game, the good news is that generally Tom does not throw INT’s.

In trying to pencil in projected W/L’s for rest of year, we should take nothing for granted for wins. Panthers are better team than their record, and Falcons are playing better under R. Morris. So I am not chalking up those games as 3 wins. And the Vikings RB is NFL leader #1 in Yards, Yds/average and TD’s for a RB, so while Vikes game looked like a win a few weeks ago, proceed with caution. Chiefs – ugh! Rams > JW beat them on the road last year, so Tom should have this game – they seem overrated.

Regarding ME, not sure what weird dynamic is going on with lack of targets. But it is not a fluke to have 6 consecutive 1200 yd average seasons under 3 QB’s. I expected more with Brady to ME. Time for BL to course-correct.

  12. ClwJB Says:

Leeman Bennett and Richard Williamson both understand what BA is going thru

I mean, that’s what we looked like yesterday

Literally disgusting display that reminds us of yesteryear

  13. Of course Says:

DONAVAN SMITH SHOULD BE CUT IMMEDIATELY.

I don’t care if his back up is a lawn chair. So tired of people sticking up for him cause he’s never hurt. It’s because he only plays half the time. That’s why he’s never hurt. FCK THIS GUY. FCK HIM ALL OVER. GET LOST YOU LAZY MOTHER FCK.

DUDE GOT BEAT 3 times in a row BY A NOBODY. A NOBODY.

    CUT HIS AS S NOW.

  14. Of course Says:

    Cut DONAVAN SMITH NOW.

GOT BEAT 3 times in a row BY A NOBODY. A ZERO NOBODY.

TIRED OF PEOPLE STICKING UP FOR THIS LAZY DUDE.

    GET LOST.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Perhaps it’s not playing in front of the National audience…….It may just be the night game…..after all, all prime time games are at night….
They played quite well in the Green Bay game which had a national audience….
good thing they flexed that game from night…..

The Rams game will be a night game……

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Sorry…..Good thing they flexed the Raiders game from night….

  17. Of course Says:

This is a loss you don’t get over. I’m telling you now this loss changed the confidence of this team. They will start to doubt everything.

This loss will follow them and the season will go to hell in a hurry.

  18. Boltsfan17 Says:

Team is going nowhere. It’s all on Brady’s shoulders. The coaching stinks and there are way too many holes on D.

  19. REDZONE BA Says:

    @Of Course –

in addition to potential confidence concerns – gotta wonder about the locker room right now. D has to be questioning game planning and getting exposed.

Cannot recall last time Bucs did not score a TD in a game, and as a Bucs fan, was embarrassed that we turtled to get a FG to avoid getting skunked instead of trying to score a TD, even if to just use the effort for practice for Panther game. Oh well, our FG kicker is solid for first time since Matt Gay. We got that going for us.

We are 6-3. Just have to regroup. Lets see what BA is made of as a leader.

  20. snookman Says:

    you people crack me up.
its one loss, one beat down.

Good teams overcome hurdles. We all know that they are better than that. Remember the Packers week 6?
Rembmer the Steelers beat down in 2002 or the Eagles that same year??

sometimes things just dont work out. That is why we have a season. Good teams improve, learn, and keep on rollling

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

When Brady goes down, its gonna get real ugly. Enter the dragon…Bruce lee Gabbert. Arians pet project.

  22. We Willie Winky Says:

This team couldn’t have sucked worse if it was named Hoover.

  23. Bucamania Says:

BA needs to get out of his golf cart and do something. Take over play calling, Question stupid decisions like playing a soft zone against Brees. Stop waiting for your coaches to do the right thing, You need to fix this now because the season is hanging in the balance.

  24. REDZONE BA Says:

    @Bucamania>
BA’s plan to mentor young coordinators while assuming a role as a CEO Head Coach (golf cart) is admirable, but not working for the Bucs short window to win with GOAT QB, who is a 43. No room for error this year.

  25. Of course Says:

    @redzone

Yea the game planning is terrible. Byron is not the guy.

And Arians just sits around doing nothing on the sidelines.

  26. REDZONE BA Says:

One positive call out to the Bucs – great job in managing COVID. So many teams have issues, but Bucs organization seems to have the guys following protocols. KUDOS!

  27. Adrnagy Says:

    Play of the game ….
Two face challenging spot of the ball 4 th down.

  28. REDZONE BA Says:

@Adrnagy – no surprise here – based on 2019 BA Red Flags for OPI/OP’s calls that were NEVER going to be overturned. Needs intervention for his Red Flag decisions.

  29. Clean House Says:

    NPR Sage Boy

“Jaymiss” didn’t seem to miss the kneel down or the dance party did he?

  30. Clean House Says:

Or the Buffoons he had for coaches
last season- you know the ones who roll out injured players like Godwin and Winston last year

  31. REDZONE BA Says:

    @Clean House

You make a point. Coaches who roll out injured players are clearly focused on the WIN NOW. For 2020 season, putting Godwin in that Saints game, who is in contract year and trying to play w/surgically broken finger – bad call. Dude is a warrior, but is needed down the stretch. Needed to save him. Godwin was not 100%.

  32. FireDonovan Says:

Brady’s prob scared as hell out there. I sure would be if I had Donovan Smith blocking for me. Enough already. Who’s our backup LT? Put him in now!!!

  33. REDZONE BA Says:

DS is not going away this year, period. He is bad in stretches, but is our LT. Brady and BL have to adjust. And Brady cannot escape pocket once he sees pocket breaking down – no scramble ability. Tom TURTLES and makes sure he does not fumble. Not a bad decision by Tom – just limits our options when we face a superior pass rush. Just what it is.

  34. REDZONE BA Says:

Brady may be scared as hell with DS. Bucs last QB played with DS for 5 yrs with lesser WR options/weapons. Brady has to adjust – he is the GOAT.

  35. T REX Says:

Super Bowl teams don’t get beat down like that in big games.

Yeah, maybe a random sticker but everyone knew what was on the line.

    Huge game. HUGE BUST.

    Fire Licht and start over.

  36. TOM Says:

As long as Arian’s is HC, Lefty is his guy. Same with Mr. lazy ass Smith. I do believe it might be time to clean house top to bottom. Get some new young blood in here. I know here we go again.
