One Hiccup With Offense

October 30th, 2020

Victim (sort of).

Damn if this doesn’t seem like nitpicking, but hang with Joe here.

Yes, the Bucs have a fantastic offense that leads the league in points scored. Park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-counting Bucs quarterback Tom Brady is hot as fire. Ronald Jones has blossomed into the fourth-best back in the NFL. Future Hall of Fame tight end, foot-rubbing Rob Gronkowski is slowly but surely getting back to what he was in his final years with the Belicheats.

Damn it is good to be a Bucs fan right now.

But there is one little element the Bucs could work on to make the offense even better. A simple little thing called “catching the ball.”

It seems Brady has had more receivers drop passes on him than anyone else in the NFL. Carson Wentz is close (20). Teddy Bridgewater (entering last night’s game) was third with 16 passes dropped.

Again, you could say this is nitpicking. Joe won’t argue. But imagine if the Bucs could drop down the drops, how lethal could this offense be?

Man, it feels good to be nitpicking instead of discussing next year’s draft.

    On Oct. 30!

Ronald Jones with all 21 of those drops. Dahh, just kidding – “only” about half of all the drops..

  4. Steven007 Says:

Our receivers are quite obviously not used to the ball hitting them in their hands. Give them time.

    You nailed it bro!🤣

  7. TampaTown Says:

How many of those drops were touchdowns? Isn’t it at least 4?

These comments so far are GOLD

  9. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Let’s not forget Brady has outright missed some wide open receivers too since we’re not picking. That’s good for a few hundred more yards and a few tds! 😅🤣😂

  10. Clean House Says:

It’s not nitpicking, stop sucking and catch the ball

  11. Bucsfanman Says:

There’s nothing more irritating than watching a perfectly thrown ball doink off the hands of a receiver, let alone a helmet!
Jones has dropped more “gimme” passes out of the backfield than I care to watch.

    “Nit-picking”?!
On this, I have to side with Clean House. CATCH the damn ball!

  12. Casual Observer Says:

Why not have a sign on RoJo’s back; “Don’t throw the ball to me.” That would reduce the drop rate considerably.

  13. Bird Says:

That was one of the excuses for the former Qb here…excuse
    # 73 i should say.
Doesnt seem to stop this team from winning

Our running backs have helped with this stat
Thats you rojo. Thats you vaughn. Thats you shady who should never see the field again

  14. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

That last one Rojo dropped against the Raiders was so frustrating. Screen play, wide open, no defender within 15 yards, hit Rojo square in the hands…

Then? Rojo, we have Fournette. Don’t worry about it, Lenny can catch. You go have a seat for a while and think about that!

  15. Matt in York Says:

Watching Tom he throws a lot of low balls that make for harder catches for our receivers. The upside is that the balls are impossible to intercept. Happy with that!

Out of all the trolls I like clean house the best 😂. I can’t stand oneilbucs😂😂😂.

  17. Dano407 Says:

That’s why it sucks that Godwin has missed games cause he has the best hands on the team. He has probably the best hands in the NFL.

  22. Mike Says:

At least half of those drops are Rojo.

  23. Youngbucs Says:

Man it feels good to have a real QB!!!

  24. BucNorth Says:

I think the majority of those drops came early in the year.

  25. Youngbucs Says:

The old man even has a better deep ball!!!!!

  26. SlyPirate Says:

9 of those were in the first 2 weeks. That makes 12 over five games. 2 per games. Seems fine.

  27. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

A lot of those were in one game and Rojo has only really dropped like 5 or so… He’s caught way more than he dropped but it does seem like he drops it a lot

  28. Mike C Says:

Man only if we lead the league in passing yards this year like ATL….

  29. PSL Bob Says:

I’d like to know how many of those were in the first 3 games when the Bucs were just starting to tune things up.

  30. #1bucfan Says:

How bout that pass to a wide open receiver that hit him in the head haha does that count as a drop too lol idk even who that WR was but I don’t think he’s a buc anymore

  31. The Deflator Says:

Maybe if someone could squeeze a couple PSI out of the balls…

  32. Rod Munch Says:

Most of those drops were earlier in the season, there really hasn’t been anything I can think of in the last few weeks. But yeah, I mean go back to the Carolina game and 3 dropped TDs. Tom has 18 TDs right now, 2nd in the league, if they hadn’t dropped those, he’d be 1st.
