Godwin Out Vs. Giants

October 27th, 2020

Out Monday night.

It’s the Giants.

That’s what you have to remind yourself when reading the news that Bucs receiver Chris Godwin won’t play against the Giants on Monday Night Football because he broke a finger catching a touchdown on Sunday, reports Jenna Laine of ESPN.

He needed surgery to repair the finger and as a result will miss the Giants game, and Joe has to suspect a few more missed games are in his future.

What a miserable break for Godwin, who caught all nine balls thrown his way on Sunday. At least this will help his bad hamstring heal. Joe loves silver linings.

Remember folks, the Bucs signed furniture-throwing Antonio Brown so all will be well, right? Right?

Now is AB a good signing joe?

  2. zzbuc Says:

I don’t care if it’s against the Giants….We need him in…..ME13 is far from being 100%……For sure a bad news…..no doubt about it!!! BAD NEW!!!!

  3. 813bucboi Says:

obviously, bucs know ME13 and CG14 wont be anything near 100% or maybe not enough to scare defenses towards the end of the year….

good job licht….that was a BIG BOI GM move….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  4. Warrenfb12 Says:

Guy is a baller but he’s injury prone.

  5. 813bucboi Says:

    next man up….

tyler johnson!!!!….show joe why we dont need AB…lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  6. Casual Observer Says:

AB won’t replace him against the Giants. But Miller and Johnson are both really playing well. I think they will step in and do the job. I think Godwin will play against the Saints.

  7. Tom Says:

Can’t catch the break…… 4 weeks.. AB is on the way…

  8. Elita Vita Says:

Good that we will soon have AB here then. It’s also time to work Gronkowski & Brate more into the system. Let’s also hope the Jones/Fournette tandem keeps improving. Go Bucs!!!

  9. chris L Says:

james bradberry vs mike evans. time for mike evans to do something against him

  10. Buc1987 Says:

    They’ll be alright….still a lot of firepower.

  11. August 1976 Buc Says:

A very cruel reminder to set emotion aside. Chris will be out again for the 7th time in last 11 games. The best ability is always first and foremost availability, second is talent. AB is a definite need. Get well Chris. GO BUCS!!!!!

  12. Mike Says:

Evans, Johnson and Miller will be just fine against the Giants.

  13. August 1976 Buc Says:

Thank you J Litcht and BA for having the guts to sign the enigma. AB to the rescue. This about winning a Super Bowl, not just trying to bump along and fight with one hand behind your back. GO BUCS!!!!

  14. ©MadMax Says:

Oh man, thats bad….Hope it heals 100% Mr. Godwin. We need you back ASAP!

  15. bojim Says:

Should be ok this game without him. Broken finger is pretty bad for a receiver. Hope he gets himself well. Feel for him. Bucs need you.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs lost that game in Chicago because our top WR was Tyler Johnson… nothing against Johnson, he’s looked good in a limited amount of play time, but he’s not a #1 or #2 or even #3 WR at this point. That’s why AB was signed.

Hopefully Evans is somewhere close to 75% by Monday night, and Scotty Miller doesn’t injury himself during the week. But man, losing Godwin for yet another game is terrible news. You’d like to just see everyone playing together to get in sync. AB can’t get here soon enough.

  17. PieRat Says:

We did not have CG against Green bay. We will be fine against the Giants in the WR position.

  18. EA Says:

Brady is throwing some bullets out there at 43, breaking receivers pinkies.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

PieRat – Godwin caught 5 for 48 yards against the Packers, was the 2nd leading receiver on the team in a week where Brady threw for only 166 yards…

Geezus… Put me in the dunce corner today. My coffee must have been decaf. LOL MY bad lol

  21. Snook Says:

Safe to label this guy injury prone yet?

  22. Snook Says:

Back against the Saints in two weeks? I guess they think we’re idiots.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

PieRat – No big deal, was just watching the Peyton Manning breakdown of Brady on ESPN, which was an entertaining show, and he broke down several of Godwin’s play so it was top of mind.

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    MAGA

    “MAKE ANTONIO GREAT AGAIN”

It is a long season……..AB will be needed….

We should be OK……have won games without being at full WR strength….

Looking for some long-awaited Brate action…..

  25. Davenport Buc Says:

The AB signing turns out to be a good idea. Let Godwin sit for 3 or 4 weeks, get back to 100% for the stretch run

  26. Allbuccedup Says:

I feel sorry for Godwin, one of my favorite bucs player, he’s an overachiever great hands and one of the top receivers in the NFL. But I am afraid these injuries are going to keep him from a big payday in 2021. Hopefully the Bucs will resign him!

  27. Defense Rules Says:

Giants are vulnerable (they’re 1-6 record provides a hint) & Bucs are structured to take advantage. They’re committing an average of 2 TOs per game (7 INTs & 6 FLs); SHOULD play nicely into the hands of our defense. They’re the #27 rushing team & #30 passing team; so again our defense SHOULD be able to take advantage.

Defensively they’re middle of the pack (#14 in Points Allowed and in Yards Allowed). Better at stopping the run than they are at stopping the pass, so our offense SHOULD be able to capitalize. The team that whooped them the most soundly (49ers won 36-9) did so with a BALANCED ATTACK (rushed 35 times for 93 yds & passed 36 times for 343 yds). And oh ya, 49ers won the TOP battle 39:44 to 20:16 as well as the turnover battle 3-0. That helps too.

Still, Giants have played some tough teams & played most of them close (4 of their 7 games within 4 points). Can’t take ANY NFL team lightly. On any given Sunday … yada yada. (Oh wait, we’re playing Monday night; we’re good).

  28. Defense Rules Says:

Allbuccedup … Chris might not get the $18-$20 mil that a top #1 receiver would get, but he’ll still do VERY well on his next contract. In his 3 yrs prior to 2020, he’d only missed 2 games, and he’s been steadily improving. This year is an anomaly for a lot of players because of the impact of ‘The Sickness’ on training camp, etc.

Bucs know how invaluable Godwin is and they will keep him, one way or another (even if it means using the franchise tag for a year).

  29. JimmyJack Says:

We are relying a lot on Gronk and its working great but he is taking a beating. I just dont wanna see him go down too but we might need him this week.

Ideally you can get Mike and Chris healthy and let the offense run through them. Or if Antinio can provide something this can also lessen the load on Gronk.

I would just love to have a healthy fresh Gronk come Janurary. He can be a real difference maker that is proven he can come through in the clutch. Key piece to success IMO.

  30. jcscycles Says:

I had the same injury in college. They stick in a pin to help it heal faster, and you are able to play in 2-3 weeks. With todays medicine, he should be ready quicker than I was. I remember tbe surgeon telling me you are better off breaking a bone than tearing a ligament. They fast, especially fingers.

  31. crazyBucs_CL Says:

we going to week 8 , and TB12 ONLY in theory have two best WR on NFL, cause in reality not even a single game so far, he got 100% either of them. They were force to AB, and VERY GOOD they did not hesitate.
since week one we have been SHORT on WR, and this is unacceptable.

  32. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Franchise Tag WRs $17.865 mil

    Transition Tag WRs $15.68 mil

We should be able to sign Godwin long-term….4 years…..$60 mil….$45 guaranteed…..

  33. Al da pewter King Says:

I’ll take a hurt Chris Godwin over a healthy Desean Jackson any day

  34. Cobraboy Says:

I will be surprised if AB is in any kind of football shape for two weeks after he returns to the practice field.

I would say Godwin’s football style means he will suffer more injuries, and he is establishing a track record of such.

I love the guy and want him to be a Buc for Life, but the “availability” thing is concerning.

  35. Bucsalltheway Says:

    Will fuller trade??

  36. Soggy Says:

    The answer joe is right..

  37. ocala Says:

Sounds like he most likely will be back for the Saints. You never want to take any NFL team for granted, but the Bucs should still be able to handle the Giants without Chris Godwin.

Having AB as an insurance policy looks pretty smart right now.

  38. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I was glad to see him leave Penn State and go pro, because he always killed my Michigan Wolverines. He was not injury prone in College, and at 6’1 and 209 lbs, ran a 4.42 40!
He is a number one receiver on most any NFL Team, so I hope we can keep him.
The AB Signing keeps looking better and better!

In Godwin’s freshman year, he appeared in all thirteen games for the Nittany Lions, recording 338 yards on 26 receptions. However, Godwin emerged as a leading wide receiver during his sophomore campaign, racking up 1,101 yards and five touchdowns. Over the course of his sophomore season, Godwin had 100+ yards receiving in five games, culminating in a 133-yard effort during the TaxSlayer Bowl.[7]

Following his breakout sophomore season, Godwin began receiving double coverage from opposing defenses. After struggling to find his stride at the start of his junior season, Godwin finished with 117 yards receiving and a touchdown against the Temple Owls. In what proved to be his final game as a Nittany Lion, Godwin recorded a career-high 187 yards on nine catches and scored two touchdowns in a thrilling Rose Bowl loss to USC. Later that month Godwin announced he was going to declare for the 2017 NFL Draft.[8]

  39. Buc4ever Says:

Both ME13 and CG14 are injury prone. Hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see how CG14 is going to be able to return soon if they need to put bone screws in ? I know it took me six weeks for the incision to heal (6 screws and a plate) and then a month of physical therapy. Finger still isn’t right after a year. Hopefully Johnson will get up to speed and AB can help.

  40. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Memphis Buc fan Says
“Now is AB a good signing joe?”

    Apparently you don’t get sarcasm.

  41. All lives matter Says:

How is Justin Watson’s chest? Haven’t heard much about him.

  42. Allbuccedup Says:

Defenses rules I sure hope so.

  43. D1 Says:

AB is our best receiver the second he steps on the field. This I hope he can help or take some pressure off …………fill in blank. AB is not the 3rd or 4th receiver talent wise on the team, He’s #1.

  44. Boston Boy Says:

Well. Maybe … just maybe BA and Licht knew something you didn’t (another CG injury) AND [God forrbid] didn’t deem it necessary to tell you. CGs injuries are piling up. He will definitely need extended healing time before the….PLAYOFFs

  45. Capeace is kaput Says:

Not a big fan of AB as a person but this is a reminder as of why they signed him. I know AB will not be on the field vs the Giants but remember the end of last year. No Mike Evans. No Godwin. No Scotty Miller. No OJ. We are already in the position of no OJ and Godwin and Evans are banged up.

  46. Jmarkbuc Says:

Might as well put CG on six week IR… let him heal up.

  47. Boston Boy Says:

Brady is throwing some bullets out there at 43, breaking receivers pinkies.

No noodle arming it like Brees. Brady is balling like Brady. Time to get on the TB12 diet and nutrition protocol people. Cuz it darn sure looks like it works

  48. Alan Collingwood Says:

On the plus side, It will give Godwin an extra week to rest that pesky hamstring injury

  49. orlbucfan Says:

Did Chris Godwin finish college before he declared for the draft?

  50. REDZONE BA Says:

Hate that Godwin is injured. Hope we re-sign him to a deserving long-term contract.
AND – that he does not RUSH back to get on field since AB is signed. JL needs to assure Godwin that he is Bucs future, and to be 100%. AB is an insurance policy, that is all.

  51. Mcruzer Says:

Everyone should go back and look at the reports from the first time that AB reported to the patriots training camp. From what all the reports say, Tom Brady fell in love with AB and his ability to catch everything that was thrown to him. Now I will miss Godwins sure hands on third down but it is what it is.

  52. DaBux Says:

Much as I hate to see this, I love seeing Tyler Johnson get his chance. This is where the rookie can provide us with a snapshot of his talent and possibly blow up all of the “experts” on how good he really is at the pro level. I would love to see him get 8 receptions, 123 yards, 2 TDs.

  53. Stanglassman Says:

I think this is all my fault I drafted him in the 2nd round. The last 4 years (5 now) my 2nd round FF player was injured most if not of the season.

  54. BigMacAttack Says:

JPP doesn’t even have any fingers. Rub some dirt on it and get back out there. Fingers don’t break, especially on a pass from a 70Yr old washed up QB. 😂

  55. BigMacAttack Says:

Seriously though I think Brady completed at least one pass to every receiver on the team last week. Btw, run the dang ball. Pound it down their throats and pass less this game. Js

  56. Greg Says:

Forgive me if I missed it but what finger was it for Godwin? He is tough as nails but it makes a difference. Damn!

  57. REDZONE BA Says:

    @Greg – what I read – left index finger.

  58. cmurda Says:

AB won’t see field for another 3 weeks. The reason it will be okay is that Tyler Johnson is stepping up when called upon. AB is a toy to be deployed after Godwin is back.

  59. REDZONE BA Says:

^^^ Disagree CRMURDA – Brady wants AB on the field – ASAP.

  60. adam from ny Says:

okay…so now the AB signing is making even more sense…

a receiver with no finger is an issue – for the rest of the season…

also the question is which finger ???

  61. adam from ny Says:

    ok…index finger…just red it…

major finger to break for a receiver…

    geeeeeeez

  62. adam from ny Says:

    fugg the dodgers

  63. REDZONE BA Says:

    @adam – YEP – NOT good.

Not sure how many posters have had a broken finger, but damn, it HURTS!. The index finger is critical to a catch. Godwin will miss at least two games, as he should to recover. We have WEAPONS galore, so no worries.
