Can The Streak Continue?
October 7th, 2020Yesterday, Joe brought word of what former Bucs quarterback and current NBC talking head Chris Simms thinks of rookie right tackle Tristan Wirfs.
Simms noted he didn’t hear Chargers’ sackmeister Joey Bosa’s name. And of course, when you don’t hear a Bucs offensive lineman’s name, you know things are going well.
And that was the same for training camp. Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich noted that Wirfs did such a good job in practices through August, Leftwich barely knew Wirfs was there.
So far this season , Wirfs handled Pro Bowl defensive end Cam Jordan in his first game. Last Sunday, it was Bosa.
Now come the Bears. And they have a guy that can get to the quarterback, Khalil Mack. The difference with Mack is, he plays outside linebacker in a 34 defense, whereas Jordan and Bosa played in a 43 as defensive ends.
Wirfs has gone up against Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaq Barrett in the Bucs’ 34 defense often in practice, so he’s used to blocking in a 34. Denver was also a 34 defensive team.
When Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians was asked about Wirfs, Arians said his quality play hasn’t been a shock at all.
“Not really – we thought he was going to be a heck of a player,” Arians said. “He’s a mature young man and he’s got his hands full this week [with Mack], so he’s got another big crew to go and block.
“He just goes about his business every single day. He and Antoine [Winfield Jr.] are two of the most mature rookies I’ve had in a long time.”
If Wirfs can take care of business and keep Mack off park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady, and the Bucs win, Joe think Bucs fans might be able to make the case that Wirfs could be the best Bucs’ draft pick since Mike Evans.
Look, Joe loves Chris Godwin and as a value pick he was a total steal. Remember, Godwin did not start as a rookie.

Now y’all remember how much Mack made Dotson look like a literal child in 2016 and 2018. HERE COMES WIRFS BABY

Dont even worry about Mack. We worried about Cam Jordon and Bosa ect…..It was needless. Mack might get a sack but I definitely trust this OL to handle business. Mack wont be a huge impact……Brady has barely gotten hit so far this year. He has had tons of time on many many plays…….This is all credited to our OL. I have been very impressed.
Im more looking forward to seeing if we can find a way to run block vs the Bears. The pass blocking I expect to be good. The Bears seem like they will be very tough to run against like the Broncos. This might be a great run game test to see how goid we are!!
GO BUCS!!!

The video of Wirfs jumping out of pool is amazing, this kid is a stud, plain and simple. RT solved for the next decade barring injury. GO BUCS!!!!!

I do worry about Mack. He is a next level player, and the biggest challenge DE we have faced yet. Jordan and Bosa can barely carry his jock.

I see Simms has started his first course of Crow. He should expect a few more throughout the season.
Now if diarealist, Anathema and Lost Dog could let us know how their round of Crow is going down, they might just begin the long road to finding an ounce of respect.
I’ll wait….
In BA I Trust!

Love that clip. During the game, there are so many things going on, you can’t really concentrate on one player, unless their the one passing, receiving or running with the ball. But damn, that boy’s got the receipts! Keep it up Tristan!

When you see it on tape, you know he’s more than doing his job.

Wow, Wirfs is seriously impressive and that is against a very good pass rusher.
Joe, why not add ‘super model marrying’ to Brady’s intro? Montana’s wife can’t compete with Gisele (no offense Joe M). Its not that I care, I like your weirdness. Paul might like that one tho, lol

make him a BUC for life NOW!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!

I thought Bosa was a little less than 100% but, that video was impressive. The rest of the O-line, too. If they keep this up….!

I’d kill to see some side by side comparisons to Dotson. Get on it Joe!
