Can Bucs Match The Intensity?

October 20th, 2020

New standard.

The Bucs were so utterly dominant on Sunday, it may have been too good even for the Bucs.

What is Joe talking about? Well, it would be one thing if the Bucs throttled a garbage team. But the Bucs locked up one of the best teams in the NFL and a Hall of Fame quarterback.

Now, everyone — opponents, opposing coaches, fans — will expect nothing less than the Bucs’ A-game. Can the Bucs defense deliver like that each week? It seems difficult to believe but Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians said it is a new day in Tampa Bay.

“That is the standard,” Arians said yesterday of his defense’s play against the Packers. “Knock on wood [we] stay healthy, and keep preparing on the practice field.”

Sunday’s game was as impressive of a defensive performance as Joe’s ever seen from the Bucs. That ranks right up there with the dismantling of Michael Vick in 2002 by Derrick Brooks and company and the swarming of Rich Gannon and the Raiders in the Super Bowl later that same season.

If the Bucs can hold other teams to 10 points like they did the Packers, this Bucs team could do serious damage the next few months.

I agree. The packers had a strong offense. Which was smothered by the Bucs – at least in the last 3 quarters. Impressive.

  2. SB Says:

My dad called me early Sunday. ( He bought season tickets in 1975, held them until 1996, when he had had enough. ) Irony there for another day. However he asked me what the key to wining the game against the Packers was.
    I told him Disciplined Football.
We did Exactly that and Nothing else!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Pablo Says:

It’s going to feel really good to be John Gruden this week, and prove to the world that he won a championship with the Tony Dungee’s team

  4. Stuart Laake Says:

Week 1 1997 against San Francisco 49ers was EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE!

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Keeping the intensity is up to the coaches and team leaders:

JPP, Suh, Devin White (savior) LVD

    Brady, Jensen, Gronk

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Interesting that BA appears perfectly intent on holding our defense to a near-impossible standard of perfection (no penalties, multiple TOs, etc) but I’ve seen almost no mention of holding our offense to a similar standard.

BOTH sides of the ball had ZERO penalties on Sunday. Offense also made ZERO turnovers. How about BA & BL start with THAT as a standard for our offense.

Matter of fact, same thing should go for our Special Teams. They played a solid game too, and that’s worthy of becoming their standard going forward.

  7. SB Says:

    Yummy moderation

  8. buc fan for life Says:

Still concerned with the play calling. Going 3 and out on the first drive was not a good sign. Without that pick, I doubt the Bucs would have had such a good game!

  9. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The Packers WERE killing us, at the start of the game
They were literally moving the ball at will on us, and we were going 3 and out on every drive UNTIL the Interceptions changed the momentum of the game
Then, Rodgers lost his starting Tackle, and the deal was sealed
You can Bet the Raiders will be up for us Jon Gruden would like nothing better than to whip our AZZ

some of yall are nitpicking and have been since week1….lol….

playcalling was perfect…we saw what this offense can be when we dont beat ourselves….simple as that….

fans can nitpick about how the defense allowed the packers to move up and down the field on back to back possessions….without that INT, packers continue to move the ball with ease….

we went 3&out on the 1st two possessions and folks were blaming BL, bashing bowles and writing a L down on the schedule…..

it aint how you start…its how you FINISH!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

Play calling is subpar. Brady went 5-13 for 70 yards in 3 of those quarters

  12. Mike Says:

SMB was the weak link in the secondary. I expect a lot of attempts to go in his direction against the Raiders, especially with crossing drag routes across the field.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

Pablo…I can’t see how that proves anything….and…there was 27 new players on that Super Bowl team none of which Dungy ever coached.

  14. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The biggest problem I had with play calling was 3rd & 2 and we have McCoy instead of ROJO running and of course we didn’t make it. As with Brady going 5-13 in the last 3 quarters almost all OCs become conservative when you have a 28-10 half time lead. It was expected since ROJO and Keyshaun Vaughn were still running pretty effectively.

  15. Buc4ever Says:

Nothing will ever compare to the burning down of the Vet or the SB, but Sunday’s game was a step in the right direction for the defense , running game and offensive line. The passing game has to improve in order for the Bucs to be a contender. Evans and Godwin need to be regular targets.

  16. August 1976 Buc Says:

John Gruden added 3 TE and 2 WR, and M Pittman. Yes he had a world championship defense, Thank you T Dungy. But to say he won it with T Dungies teams is not accurate. He rebuilt the offense, something Tony never was able to do and why he was let go.

  17. Rayjay1122 Says:

For everyone being malcontents after that great victory, how would you like to be Cowboy fans right about now?

  18. DBS Says:

38-10 cry babies. Same people that gave up and the sky was falling. Already wrote the game off as a loss.

  19. August 1976 Buc Says:

BTW anyone remember Micheal Vick saying in the 2002 highlight video ” I can’t even set up, I can’t even set up” Brooks was spying Vick in that game. A week after Vick ran all over the Vikings. GO BUCS!!!!

  20. lambeau Says:

As others note, playcalling is awful and the players deserve creative ways to spring RoJo that are equal to the passing attack, or it will be 3rd and long all day and the playoff run will be over before it gets going.

  21. Patrickbucs Says:

They were getting smoked with Bakhtiari in the game as well. It was 28-10 when he left if I recall correctly.

  22. 813bucboi Says:

stats for for losers(5for13,70yards)….the run game was working…simple as that…

the OC was smart enough to know he didnt need to force the pass….we didnt need brady to go 32-40, the way the game was dictated….

more pass atts wouldve given the packers more chance to make a play on the ball and more clock….not to say BL took the ball out bradys hands but why stop running?…

you talking about 1 3rd&2 call…lol…what about the 3rd&7 call to tyler johnson?…or the 3rd&6 call to gronk?…those play calls resulted in TDs….

the offensive playcalling aint “perfect” but its better than what we’ve had in recent years…and we aint winning 20-13…we’re putting up 30+….defensive play calling hasnt been perfect either but both BL and Bowles are winning games right now…

stop nitpicking….you blaming BL for brady going 5 for 13?…lol…he missed at least 3 throws that game…he aint perfect either…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

did you not see “spring” for 30+ yards vs the bears?….

have you not seen rojo rush are 100+yards 3staright games?….lol…

    dont the BUCS have a top10 offense?…and a top10 rusher?….

    man please….get a clue…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

It really couldn’t be better for we Buc fans. The schedule is exciting as well. First the showdown with a good team and great QB at home…and then the matchup against Chucky and a Vegas team that has ideas of their own.

4-2!!! If we win in Vegas we have to honor the late Sam Wyche!

    FIVE DASH TWO BABY!

  25. Davenport Buc Says:

Pablo … its funny how Dungy couldn’t win with Dungy’s team. That “Dungy’s team” argument is so lame and only points to the fact that Tony wasted the prime careers of our HOF players.

  26. Joe Says:

That “Dungy’s team” argument is so lame and only points to the fact that Tony wasted the prime careers of our HOF players.

Thank you. How Ira and his buddies put him into the Hall of Fame over Jimmy Johnson is mindboggling.

  27. 813bucboi Says:

the dungry argument is spot on….

tony won after tampa…gruden did not…

    case closed….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  28. Davenport Buc Says:

813 … Manning won for Dungy. Go back and look at the playoff games during that run.

In one game, the Colts were losing late in the game. Dungy, as always, played conservatively and sent out the punt team.

When he saw that, Manning waved them back & went for it — Manning decided what to do. They made the first down, scored and won the game.

Had Manning not done that, the Colts probably lose in typical Dungy fashion.

  29. 813bucboi Says:

    manning won for dungy?…lol…

what did manning win before tony arrived?…..NOTHING!!!….

manning needed a defense…tony came and provided that…was it the defense that was in tampa?..NO…but tony proved he needed a QB and he could get the defense to play well….

defenses won manning both his SB rings….

    GO BUCS!!!!

Gruden will be ready for this game. He has been dreaming of getting payback on Tampa for firing him and for Brady for the tuck game. He gets a national spotlight and an extra week.

Now with that said, the Raiders offense is Packers-Light. Car is similar to rogers but not as mobile or deadly. He is risk advers accurate and fairly mobile. Their skill positions are not on greenbay level. The biggest difference it that their passing game runs through waller and jacobs is a bigger back.

Overall, i think the same outline used for green bay would be effective against oakland. Take deep shots and #1 read away. Bring pressure. If you stop jacobs they become 1 dimentional.

  31. 813bucboi Says:

    BINGO!!!!

stop the run and hit Carr early & often….

    play good solid complimentary football….

    on to LV

    GO BUCS!!!!

  32. HeyItsAdam Says:

    Chucky got HIMSELF fired.

Yes, the Bucs lost 4 in a row to miss the playoffs in Chucky’s last year… one of those losses was to JAMARCUS RUSSELL. A defense with 2 Hall of Famers had no answer for the biggest QB draft bust in NFL history.

  33. FirstTimePoster Says:

Pablo Says…First off it’s Dungy. Secondly, Gruden completely overhauled the Bucs offense. McCardell, Jurevicious, Pittman etc. The Bucs had a great defense for sure. Dungy couldn’t score a TD with the offense for two years until Gruden fixed it.
