Bruce Arians: Jon Wants To Smash It Up In There
October 21st, 2020Joe can envision the smirk on Jon Gruden’s face when he saw the Packers carve up the Buccaneers on the first two drives Sunday, chewing up the clock with short passes and even breaking a 25-yard run.
Chucky must have been salivating like a dog, and Joe suspects Chucky was so smitten by what he saw that he almost ignored everything that came after it from the mighty Bucs defense.
Yes, the Bucs finally will face their Super Bowl coach on Sunday Night Football in Las Vegas. (Joe will be watching with Ira Kaufman and fired up Bucs fans at Big Storm Brewery in Clearwater. Great indoor and outdoor covered seating and viewing ). It’s been a long, long time since Team Glazer fired Chucky after back-to-back 9-7 seasons.
The Raiders (3-2) and their three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr are dangerous, though they can’t seem to stop anyone.
Bucco Bruce Arians talked about the Raiders offense last night on Bucs Total Access. He was chattering about how Chucky has Carr throwing lots of checkdowns successfully but Carr also is doing a strong job taking his shots.
“Lotta audibles but throwing the ball down the field” better, Arians said of Carr.
But Arians said he knows what’s coming despite the Bucs having the best run defense in the NFL. “Jon wants to smash it up in there, we gotta be able to stop Josh [Jacobs],” Arians said.
Joe agrees with Arians and suspects Chucky wants to see how the Bucs handle a steady diet of Pro Bowler Jacobs without Vita Vea, in hopes he can recreate what Green Bay did in the first quarter.
Manbeast Vea’s replacements, Rakeem Nuñez-Roches and Jeremiah Ledbetter, played well against Green Bay, but they’re not Vea and have more to prove.
Lots of time until kickoff, and lots of chatter to come from Chucky and others about this historic game. Joe can’t wait. Hopefully, the Bucs will send Chucky to the locker room with his tail between his legs.

Not to worried about the run, more worried about Carr’s quick release and check downs. I suspect Chucky will pull every trick play known to mankind. Buc’s defenders better be ready for some mis directions and trick plays.

We need to continue to stop the run…..and play very tight on receivers…..jam them…..no soft coverage..
Limit the blitzes…..show blitz then drop into coverage…
Put one of our LBs on Jacobs the entire game…..every play.

Bucs should have never fired Chucky. His parents still live in north Tpa but I hope they are disappointed after their son’s next game .

One key to this game is getting up on the Raiders early and make them play from behind, and get minimize their running game.
Smash Mouth is best played while ahead, not behind.
This is a game where I want the ball first, if possible. Success on the opening drive is critical.

Our run game is elite due to our LBs as much as the d-linemen. Vea is an obvious presence but he was only playing 50-60% of the downs, so even when we had him, our back ups were still holding up well. Our back ups are solid and very capable role players to do the work that will allow our LBs to make the plays. White and David are feeding off one another, its like watching a feeding frenzy of sharks the way they are attacking ball carriers.

I don’t think Jon was salivating Joe when he saw the way our defense put the whup on Rodgers. If he’s going to run the ball it’ll be more to protect his QB from the beating he might take. Let’s face it, Carr isn’t the best QB under pressure. The way to stop the run is to get a big lead, and let’s see if Carr can win the game.

Bucs are a great run defense because of their speed, good understanding of their scheme (communicating and being in the right place to make a play) and just their will to not allow their opponent to run against them. They will do a good job stopping the run. My concern is the misdirection and short passing game. This seems to be the area where the Bucs are not that great.

Better have a good defense playcall ready for “Spider 2 Y banana!”

time for the new NT to show Josh Jacobs a little something. I do miss Vea wrecking the interior but our run D is as much about the the athleticism of our MLBs as that monster in the middle

This actually has the making of another beat down!! This is EXACTLY the kind of offense that a bump and run type defense thrives against!! I suspect Davis will have another pick and possibly Winfield will finally get what’s deserved of his play and grab his first pick!! That Edwards pick should have been his!! …. But yeah the raiders will play right into the hands of this defense!! Those short passes like that are not going to plague this team after that bears game!! They started like that against the Packers too but finally Bowles said ok y’all I’m letting you loose!! …. The bucs will win this game by at least 14 points… Mark it down and copy and paste my comment so it’s here when I come back and say see told ya!! Lol

Film study, preparation, and practice!
What impressed me in the after-game interviews last week was how Arians and a number of the Bucs players commented about how prepared they were for the Packers plays and how sharp they were in practice preparing for those plays prior to the game. Jamel Dean remarked that he had seen how Rodgers signaled certain plays and how he was ready to jump the route when he recognized that play in the game. That my friends is excellent coaching and preparedness. I hope this week’s prep and practices go just as well, because you know Chucky is going to pull out every trick in the book.

I like Jon Gruden. My company cleaned his roof before, back when he still lived here.
However, he is not our Coach anymore, so I want to see him lose, and make those weird faces he makes when he is losing.

I say the Bucs just have a field day against the Raiders
