“We Wasn’t Staying On Our Blocks In The Run Game”

September 13th, 2020

Interesting takes

Bucco Bruce Arians praised Ronald Jones after the game but acknowledged his team didn’t run the ball as well as he expected.

With 17 carries for 66 yards, RoJo was ok against a strong defense but never really found a rhythm. Newcomer Leonard Fournette had 5 carries for 5 yards. Tom Brady ran well on three rushes and Scotty Miller took a handoff six yards.

O.J. Howard said after the game that “we wasn’t staying on our blocks in the run game.”

To which Joe has to ask, why not?

It was really disappointing to see the offense look average with an all-star cast. Yeah, Joe realizes the Saints have a great defense, but the Bucs should have a great offense.

Howard made Joe gulp when he said after the game that maybe the Bucs got a little soft after a strong opening drive. “I hope it didn’t get us too relaxed.”

Huh?

    Rojo 3.88 ypc
    Fournette 1ypc

    Kamara 1.3 ypc

Saints as a team rushing 2.41 ypc

Are players not doing after game press conferences?? Looking on Buccaneers.com for the Brady one??? not to be found. What he doesn’t want to talk after his huge 23/36 day with 239 yards and 2 tds/2 int day??? He stepped to podium in NE after every win or loss

  3. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

I weren’t enjoying most of the game either…

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Some positives among the negatives….

Brady can sneak……..he also held onto the ball when sacked…..

Scotty & OJ can catch the ball….

  5. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

The OL has been bad the past 4 years, wirfs gonna be good but that guy on the left side is lazy and is gonna get brady hurt

  6. Buddy Says:

Disgregard my post he finally showed up

  7. SOEbuc Says:

No shoot. And I still think RoJo is overrated that he was gonna be a star RB this year. But I’m not a bandwagon b!tch that already gave up after game one. It wasn’t a terrible loss against one of the best QBs and difficult defense. This was the best week one loss for game film and practice. We’ll develop through this and Tom will be holding a grudge when they come to RayJay.

  8. james west Says:

66 divided by 17 = 3.88 yards per carry, the best average 5 or more yards per carry, followed by 4.5 per carry by good running backs, followed by average RB’s who average 4 yards per average, according to google jones is below average, and according to me watching him since his draft, he sucks

  9. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Holy god, Fournette was mediocre. Thought he was overhyped at LSU, wasn’t impressed with his “highlights” from last year, and he looked exceedingly not-quick today. Another former Jaguar, Fred Taylor, was the same size (faster tho), and knew how to create because of his feet. Fournette’s feet seem slow.

and i still don’t think much of the juice damni’tt

  11. Rod Munch Says:

These people that just take a position then stick with it for years are such bores. What exactly did Ronnie did wrong today, what holes was he missing? The only thing wrong you can point to is when he stumbled on the screen pass, he got 9 yards but likely could have had a TD, but the Bucs got a TD in any case on that drive. But Rojo got what you’d expect when there are no holes to run through.

Fournette had a really nice run on a pass play where he ran well in traffic to get a good gain, but then on the next play he was kind of plodding getting to the outside and was dropped for no gain.

In any case I thought both guys were fine today, there wasn’t any holes to take advantage of, and both got what you’d expect, except for the pass catch by Fournette which was a nifty run.

But the playcalling, the super predictable run calls by Leftwich, that was a problem.

  12. Nate1111 Says:

Am i the only one that realized gronk looks SLOW

  13. mark2001 Says:

Kind of what I was thinking. The first drive was almost too easy. And then, we seemed to have an Offensive letdown. Sounds like Howard possibly perceived it as well. That shouldn’t happen…time for the enforcers to kick some rear.

  14. Will Says:

This offense has all these weapons and a play caller who keeps things beyond vanilla. Do we have any creativity in this offense? Don’t want to hear anything about it being the 1st game and Brady needs time to learn the playbook. We’ve seen a year of this offense already and it looks exactly the same GENERIC…

  15. Oneilbucs Says:

All these Tight ends I thought Jamies was the problem and now yall see the real problem . Look how the Falcons offense played with Dirk K . Lol lol but all yall blame Jamies .

  16. DBS Says:

Oneilbucs. You are another of the stupid people that just wants to hear what you want. Nobody ever said HE was the ONLY problem. But ONE of the problems. He cost us games. The kicker cost us games. Problems with the OL and more. But please fool continue to believe everyone blamed ONLY HIM!

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Oneill

It’s not just “we all”. It’s the judgement of the entire league!!! He’s freaking third string behind Taysom Hill. The rest of the league could have had him for a couple of million bucks…that’s truly chump change.

Why dat Oneill? So it’s your contention that this board is wrong and the NFL experts are equally wrong?

  18. Rod Munch Says:

stpetebucsfan – Hey old man, if you actually followed any news out of NO, it’s clear as day that Jameis is the backup in NO. Hill is a gadget player, not a real QB. To talk about a depth chart, that literally no team takes seriously, is the sign of being senile.

  19. Luke Says:

Rojo. No go. Practice squad please. Get Fournette and McCoy the touches. Their real backs. To get excited about Ronald Jones let’s see him cheerleading. No team wins with a running back averaging 3 yards a rush. Worst part is no TD talent.

  20. Bejesus-belt Says:

How about Fournette up the middle and pound a few yards instead of off the tackle. Especially off lazy tackle.

  21. Buczilla Says:

The Saints have a good defense, but it ain’t that damn good. Our offensive line just isn’t playing up to the level that they are paid at. Wirfs had a strong first game, so that was encouraging. All of our running backs were bad to decent, but I expect everything to get much better as we go along.

The Saints are at least as talented as we are and have loads more experience in their offensive/defensive systems. Losing to these a$$holes was painful, but I’m not losing patience yet…😛

  22. mickman Says:

stop reading the news clippings and start playing to the damn whistle…bunch of Paper Champions!

  23. Rod Munch Says:

Buczilla – Actually the Saints have one of the very best defenses in football, they really are very good, in particular at home on turf. I didn’t notice Wirf all day, which was an excellent thing. The RB’s were fine, they had zero places to run, so it’s not exactly like they could have done much – it wasn’t like Rojo was being brought down by one guy, he was being hit by 4-7 guys on every run, mainly because Leftwich was so incredibly predictable.

This will improve, I expect a big bounce back next week, and we’ll see how round 2 goes later this year when it’s outside where Brees has a hard time throwing more than 7 yards downfield.

But, as I pointed out before, the Bucs opened their 2002 season by losing to the Saints.

  24. lambchop Says:

    @Nate1111,

Gronk isn’t in game shape yet. But, he had some nasty blocks. I expect him to play better in the passing game as the season goes along. He’s been out of football for a long time. Let’s check back after week 4 and see if he’s still not producing.

  25. lambchop Says:

This team needs to change it’s mentality. I didn’t expect to hear that kind of line coming out of any player after Tom got here. I think Sargeant Brady needs to come out in practice and in game. The softies need to get their nuts checked by Brady.

What’s the point of saying they didn’t finish the blocks? I hate that line from Juice. Go do your F-ing job so you don’t have to talk about how you didn’t. Don’t talk about it, be about it.

  26. Mister Positive Pete Says:

    n1! @Jonathan Limpchimpi

  27. adam from ny Says:

the first few weeks of the season are always a little weird and off…

    and that’s with 4 preseason games…

so add in covid, no preseason and no otas…and things are way off…

the first 4 weeks of the 2020 season should be odd to say the least

  28. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

    “We wasn’t” ??? sheesh….

  29. FanO’Bucs Says:

We wasn’t committed to the runs
