“This Is A Super Bowl Team”

September 30th, 2020

Drinking the red Kool-Aid.

One national talking head seems ready to buy Bucs Super Bowl gear.

And that guy would be syndicated national radio and TV guy Colin Cowherd. Speaking earlier this week on his FS1 weekday show, Cowherd said after watching the Bucs take apart the Broncos, he is convinced the Bucs are “a Super Bowl team.”

He rattled off all the positives (the defense, the underrated secondary, the powerful linebackers, the pass rush, the run defense, the loaded offense and, of course, park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady).

Cowherd said he sees the Bucs building a team that mirrors the Broncos when Peyton Manning arrived in the sunset of his career. Manning didn’t need to be the Manning at the height of his career, just good enough to move the offense and let the defenders hunt.

“Just like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady got to choose his team,” Cowherd said. “And he chose wisely. Tampa Bay has a wealth of talent. … That is potentially a great football team.”

Cowherd joked that nuisances for the Bucs are real problems for the rest of the NFL.

“Tom Brady said he has to get the ball more to Mike Evans,” Cowherd said. “That’s not a real problem. A real problem is not having a receiver as good as Mike Evans.”

Added Cowherd about the race for the NFC South title, which currently shows the Bucs all alone in first place, that the Bucs “are winning that division.”

Before Joe jumps on this train, Joe wants to see Leonard Fournette be his real self and not a backup or a glorified relief pitcher. And Joe wants to see the Bucs’ offense hum in the second half as it does the first half, not melting down mentally.

Super Bowl teams don’t have offenses that play ostrich in the second half.

Tom Brady is a winner so he is going to play winning football. So, if the opposing team is double teaming Mike all day, then he most likely is going to get very few targets.

SB teams win games they should win….and we did just that….

BL is working magic….Bowles is working magic….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  3. ocala Says:

On another note Godwin has a mild hamstring pull and is out this week and possibly out against the Bears, but should be good to go in three weeks.

    Joe,
I spoke with a close friend who’s a lifetime Pats fan told me it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Bucs second half performance is then not giving future opponents film to scout.

He said it’s very Brady and (use to be Belichek). We will see, that doesn’t excuse procedural penalties and sloppy play.

What happens to realisto, did you boot him Joe?

Have thought about that. Hope that’s on the mark. It makes sense. Thanks Architek.

    Not yet. 🙂

How often has this team lost games it was supposed to win over the years? Way to many. It is nice to see them win these games now. And the Chargers are the next opportunity to kick a team while they are down. It is fun to finally have a good team that uses the regular season to tune up for the post-season. That is what the Patriots have done for years, and what other good teams do. You especially see this in the NBA. In the NBA the regular season is always a tune up for the good teams, leading up to their post-season run.

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We pretty much knew Godwin would be out at least 2 weeks when he got injured. It was a pretty obvious injury.

If Brady said publicly that he needs to get the ball more to Evans, then he wants Evans double and triple teamed so other targets will open up, especially with Godwin out.

The things that impress me about Wirfs: he’s doing a very good job and he’s getting no penalties. Bucs right tackles have always gotten a large amount of penalties. Wirfs is truly fun to watch.

Give Leftwich credit…but remember that it has been Bruce Arians who changed the culture of this team. He got rid of the players who were overpaid and not producing, he hired a large staff so teaching and development could happen on two fields, and he is the one who taught Leftwich to coach and develop…both here and in Arizona.

The National Media sees a team that went all in for 2020. And sure, the Bucs did that. But they did it in a financially responsible way, and they’ve been developing good talent along the way. Nearly every position has youth with promise.

Except quarterback. So long as Brady stays healthy, we’re good this year. If he doesn’t, one of our backup QBs will almost certainly get injured (one guess as to who) and Rosen will get promoted.

I have no idea if Rosen is the future, but I suspect he is much better than his former team believed.

If not, we’ll find a QB when Brady leaves.

But that’s a concern for the future. It’s Superbowl time! Worst to first!

I think Realisto exclamation point key broke down on his keyboard, and he is looking for a computer keyboard with an indestructible exclamation point key.

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    The dream Superbowl:

Bucs vs Patriots (Tom vs Bill)
    Or
Bucs vs Raiders (Bucs vs Jon Gruden)

A victory in either would be a good story and put some things to rest.

  12. Mitch Says:

I watched the segment. Cowherd was so over the top. It’s almost uncomfortable as a Buc fan for the national types to be throwing so much attention and love at this club. I think the Bucs are a great football team, but they still need to put some pieces together this season to continue their success against winning football teams. Each game is important but we should beat the Chargers. After that game I really see the Chicago (short week) and the Packers game as the big challenge during the first half of the season. It will be a real test against two good football teams. We’ll see the strongest defense we have faced yet in Chicago, and then going to play an NFC powerhouse and HOF QB that hasn’t been sacked ( PFF) or been sacked just twice ( Rodgers said himself) this year. Those two weeks will tell us a lot about this football team!

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    mark2001,

We’re winning. He’ll need more time to make things up.

  14. Don't Be a NDOG Says:

Listen, Cowherd is blowhard and takes “bold” stances all the time. I have no idea what his track record as far as being correct stands at, but he definitely can be over the top. That being said, he is my favorite national radio show to listen to and I usually have him on mid-day if I have listened to all my bucs podcasts.

It’s fun to hear him talk about the bucs for once though! I honestly thought he didn’t know the bucs were a team for a long time..

  15. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - City of St Pete Says:

Rhealist can’t handle the Truth that this is a winning team and organization now!!!!!!!!!!!!

And with all of our current personnel and none of his stupid illogical man crushes at the helm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This team is winning the Superbowl this year and the negative Nancy boys aren’t going to know how to occupy their time…. Sad, but they maybe actually change their tune and jump on the bandwagon like they should

  16. Casual Observer Says:

Got to stop with the penalties. They’ve been coming during crucial plays. If they can correct that silliness, they should be just fine.

  17. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - City of St Pete Says:

    18-1

  18. mark2001 Says:

Erik… looked at some of your work… very impressive.

With a creative mind as you seem to have, I’m pretty sure it is probably difficult for you to empathize with Realisto. You should have some compassion for him…everything thought he tries to distill into words is disrupted by exclamation points.

  19. Alanbucsfan Says:

“it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Bucs second half performance is then not giving future opponents film to scout.”

That’s interesting- I guess 3 – 10 yard OLine penalties on 3 different 2nd half drives were by design- SMH

  20. mark2001 Says:

Alan…I do have to wonder if there is a self fulfilling prophecy aspect to the second half situation.

Our team was so bad…for so long… becoming a team that plays well for 60 minutes, and winning consistently, is something many of the guys on this team aren’t familiar with. For a decade, it always turned out badly.

I agree with you that there is no attempt to hide something from the opposition in our second half of play. But maybe learning to play sixty minutes of football without imploding, is something this team does have to learn. And learning how to play and strategically prepare for a post season run is something else we could only dream about.

  21. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Mark2001-
As the season progresses and the players get more familiar with each other ( chemistry builds) , I would expect the Offensive mistakes to be less… do not want repeat of last 2 games last year in 2nd half of season

  22. mark2001 Says:

Agree Alan…and as they learn to be favored and close out games better.

  23. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - City of St Pete Says:

Mark2001, thanks so much man, I appreciate the kind words.. I actually only have 3 pieces on my site and I have another 8 works that I’ve done since I was added to the St Pete Arts Alliance Creative Directory and I need to add them to my page.. And I actually just changed my hotlink to my Instagram, which has more pics…

Anyway, Lol.. I do know that Rhealist kinda is a real fan in his own twisted way, but it’s time for them to jump on and ride the wave at this point…

Or we’re more like a snowball rolling down a mountain and growing in force and destructive power as we continue rolling…

18-1 is achievable and I believe we can do it

  24. Pewter Power Says:

No one knows until we see them up against the Saints again, the packers and chiefs will be the real tests and will or lose they have to be competitive

  25. BillyBucFan Says:

Fournette said give me an inch, not let them try to tackle me in the backfield.

This O Line sucks at run blocking, especially D Smith.
Rojo looked like he has done this before.
Maybe Fournette will call them out and it will change.

49ers don’t have the ice cream man running wild because he is soooooo talented.

  26. Bucsfan81 Says:

There are better teams right now. Let’s just first try to make the playoffs which we haven’t done in over 12 years before we start talking Super Bowl.

  27. Buc4ever Says:

O-line is the key and the coaches need to change the run blocking scheme. Something isn’t working in the run game if they are in fact using the 12 personnel offense? The O-line isn’t controlling the gaps and it certainly doesn’t ever fool the defense. Play calling needs to get more creative also, just look at KC.

  28. Allbuccedup Says:

Lets worry about getting to the playoffs first then the Superbowl. A playoff appearance would be almost like a Superbowl its been so long.

  29. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

We need to beat the Chargers, Bears and Packers. If we can swing that, we’ll be on the right track. Those Packers have been vicious this season.
