“They Will Keep Them In Every Game”
September 29th, 2020Some great moments of the history of the Bucs franchise have been centered around defense.
From Lee Roy Selmon and Batman Wood and Mark Cotney to Warren Sapp, John Lynch and Derrick Brooks, to today with Lavonte David and Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaq Barrett, the Bucs have gone old school this year with a strong defense.
Closet Bucs fan Peter Schrager of NFL Network, also a co-host on “Good Morning Football,” believes despite all the international star power on offense, it will be be the defense that will carry the Bucs this year.
“The defense is going to be a key factor,” Schrager said Monday morning. “I don’t know if the offense can score with [Aaron] Rodgers and [Russell] Wilson and some of these other NFC teams.
“But that defense? They are up to the task. And they will keep them in every game.”
In fact, the only game the first-place Bucs have lost, at New Orleans to open the season, the Bucs were in the game in the second half. And that was despite the offense shooting itself in the foot, precisely because of the defense.
Joe thought Schrager made a good point. We keep hearing how this offense will get better as the season transpires. That’s a guess. We don’t know that. It’s a hope and you know what Joe thinks of that awful four-letter word “hope.”
Bucs fans don’t have to worry about hope with the defense. We know it can play.
You can see Schrager’s full take on the Bucs in the NFL Network video below.

If only they ever gave the last QB this help!
September 29th, 2020 at 12:27 am
Suh and others would not have resigned without Brady signing on the dotted line. Suh said that is why he signed and came back GO BUCS!!!!

NDog: if only the other quarterbacks jock strap wasn’t in your mouth. Oops I said that out loud hahah. Get over it. Winston is talents but he will never be the GOAT.

Ndog > If only they ever gave the last QB this help!
@Ndog – This JBF poster Board > will NEVER concede that the Bucs Defense (aka Mike Smith ERA among others) contributed to losses in last 5 years. ALL losses were fault of the last QB, period.
Regarding SUH, JPP re-upping with Bucs – if last QB was re-signed?
Who else was chasing these guys? Money talks. And if they did not re-sign for $M’s with Bucs, please, someone tell me who else was chasing them for same or even close $$$?

I wish that I could have met KA when she was a bartender…

The offense is starting to click and grow together. Still a lot of work to be done, in my opinion.
The defense has wowed me. I didn’t expect such a dominant defense this early. I guess that’s to be expected when your qb doesn’t spot the other team 7.5 points per game.
Now if the injury bug can stay away!!!
September 29th, 2020 at 12:53 am
951 – Regarding past QB – how about if your D does not SPOT the other team multiple easy TD’s? And in fairness, my comment is over the last 5 years. Last year, it took 8 games before the D was decent. Be fair.
For current Bucs team – yep – all good for now, and impressed. Bucs will beat Chargers. The following 3 games will be helpful to gauge how good the Bucs are….and I do think we are good.

“If only they gave the last QB this help”
Winston did some good things, but at some point they defense stops playing hard for him, because they knew the turnover was coming. If you cannot see how much harder these guys are playing for Brady your blind. Instead of selfish plays to try and get yourself a big contract, guys are playing as a team and really putting in 110% on communicating out there and feeding off each other. Every player on this team knows that they are in PROVEN winning hands with Brady. He’s like the allstate of quarterbacks. Your in good hands with him.
I will never ever forget the time in 2018 i believe when we played the bengals, watching Demar Dotson throw his hands up in disgust, like WTF?!, in the middle of blocking after yet another inexplicable Winston INT. That is how the entire team felt game after game regardless of ANY other circumstances.
Yes the defense shat the bed repeatedly, but the last 4 graves of the season they played very well finally and yet someone still threw pick upon pick. The more legitimate argument you’d have is to blame the sorry ass kicker in those last few games where the D played well.
It might not be fair but quarterback is the most harshly judged position in all of sports. The most important position in all of sports. Face it Winston, as a leader inspired no one. His deep ball is no where near as accurate as Brady’s. Winston had no deep touch pass, which is why Desean Jackson did not want to play with Winston. His huge baseball windup will forever hold him back from being elite. He is being outplayed and outshined as an inspiratonal leader by a 43 year old statue.
You can call Brady lucky or make whatever other excuses you want, but at the end of the day as YOUR daddy once said “check yo sheet”
Sole position of first place, when did Winston ever get that at week 3 or beyond???

Ignore the troll. He’s an intellectual dingleberry.
September 29th, 2020 at 1:13 am
Homer – are you referring to me, as a troll dingleberry? Just want to be certain.

Football will always be a team game. Right now both sides getting it done. There is still a lot of room for growth. The defense is ahead of the offense. For the most part the Bucs are not shooting themselves in the foot. That has been the issue in Tampa for years, as it is with all losing teams. If they played a clean game in New Orleans they would be 3-0. It is fun again to be a Bucs fan. GO BUCS!!!!
September 29th, 2020 at 1:27 am
Lightning won the Stanley cup, Joe!!! Time to celebrate!
September 29th, 2020 at 1:32 am
The idiots that fall for obvious trolling again and again and again deserve to live in their moronic triggered worlds. I just don’t get how people can be either that stupid, or that clueless.
September 29th, 2020 at 2:25 am
The defense is playing its butt off. The running game? Not so much, but it’s early and we are 2-1, so I’m not going to complain overly much. It’s awesome to see a consistently good defense again.
September 29th, 2020 at 6:11 am
It’s only 3 weeks into the season, but our Bucs’ D is listed in the Top-10 in almost every category. Including #7 in Points Allowed, #5 in Total Yards Allowed and #4 in Turnovers. Defense like that will definitely keep this team in every ballgame.
What’s most impressive to me is how they’ve done it. As a team they’ve now forced 12 sacks, 20 QB Hits & 24 TFL … that’s mighty impressive in just the first 3 games. That’s a LOT of pressure on opposing offenses.
September 29th, 2020 at 6:45 am
Ndog, if only the last QB did not throw 35 picks. Houston and Atlanta, Jameis losses. And right after his agent squeaked about $30M per year.
Oops.
September 29th, 2020 at 6:58 am
The defense has displayed its potential but needs consistency as much as the offense. This unit is reminiscent of the old Bucs in their early days…..but we need to get to the point where we battle for every single inch on the field. Right now we have entire series where we go through the motions. Looking back, i thought part of the genius of Gruden was challenging the defense to not just create turnovers but to score. That’s a mindset of knowing you will shut a team down and still attempting to achieve more.
September 29th, 2020 at 7:10 am
But ndog brings facts guys
😂
Im kidding. What a joke.
The defense is the same except a rookie safety How is the defense now only helping brady?
And all these new players are here for brady period.
😂
And jpp and suh would have definitely moved on If #3 behind center
😂
Rod munch – i disagree. I think ndog is real. Now I am not sure he is a real Bucs fan. But he is a huge nole and jameis fan . So he married into wstching bucs. He will be talking about how bucs treated jameis for years.
September 29th, 2020 at 7:14 am
DR
Agree. I think one big change has come from a rookie of all players -winfield
He has win in his name too. Thats a good sign.
We have been weak at safety for over a decade
This kid seems special. Rhonde 2.0
He can cover / hit/ blitz/ Sack/ play all position except maybe outside corner cause a tad short.
He is a weapon
Has good chance at defensive rookie of the year
September 29th, 2020 at 8:05 am
I don’t expect the Bucs young secondary to be able to hang with the Chiefs receiving corps and TEs. If the Bucs want to win that game they’ll need 40+ from the offense. But the Ravens were smothered by the Chiefs D, so there’s that.
September 29th, 2020 at 8:51 am
ndog
if JW is so much better than brady, why isnt he starting in N.O.?…..
N.O. has tons of “help” and they just lost 2 straight…brees hasnt looked himself and t.hill crapped the bed…..
shouldnt JW get a shot?…..or is he at home still “googling” stuff….
GO BUCS!!!!!
September 29th, 2020 at 10:37 am
Nah some of you guys are definitely rewriting history:
1. This defense WAS trash for 4.5 years out of 5 Jameis was here.
2. He never threw 35 INTs
But again, it doesn’t matter now that he’s gone.
But stop pretending he didn’t have a BOTTOM 3 RUN GAME AND BOTTOM 3 DEFENSE almost his entire career. He did. It is what it is. Bucs are winning, that’s all that matters.

“Gump and the Glaser boys
Going to have to sign Bowles as the “HC in awaiting” in 2 years when BA retires
Alot of teams is going to go after Bowles this offseason
Bowles and his agent would demand it in writing”
