Sloppy Offense

September 27th, 2020

Fix the lackadaisical offense.

Joe generally doesn’t want to wag a finger at the Bucs after a win. This, Joe cannot ignore.

The Bucs were terribly sloppy on offense (and the punt team) in the second half. Despite passing the eyeball test by absolutely dominating the Broncos, their heads-up-their-rear play on offense in the second half kept the Broncos in the game.

This should have been a 30-point win. But with 10 minutes or so left in the game, it was a two-score game. For Joe, this was borderline shameful.

As former Bucs guard Ian Beckles said last week, if this team has Super Bowl aspirations — and they do — there is no excuse to lose focus in the second half and commit penalty after penalty on offense.

Shame on the Bucs for p!ssing away excellent field position after a safety by getting flagged time after time.

The lousy play on offense kept the Broncos in the game when this team should be have been put down out of mercy and pity. Arians should have torn the offense a new tailpipe in the fourth quarter the way they played.

If the Bucs continue this ugly trend in the second half of games, they cannot expect to beat good teams. Any halfway decent opponent would have regained the lead against this undisciplined offense.

If Joe was a defensive player or coach, he would have been insulted the way the Bucs relied on the defense to bail their tails out.

And where was Leonard Fournette? You can’t tell Joe he doesn’t know the playbook so much that he could only get seven touches.

The defense is carrying this team. It’s time for the offense to pull its weight.

Great that the Bucs won. The offense has to stay awake in the second half.

“Way too many penalties,” Bruce Arians correctly said after the game on the Buccaneers Radio Network. “This team has a tendency to relax. And we have to quit that.”

In the fourth quarter, Joe sure wasn’t relaxing.

Ok, so I was wrong in a previous post. We had too many penalties. We still won easily. But do agree, we have loads of room for improvement on offense.

Joe thinks Fournette is going to rattle off 40 runs every time he touches it. Must be the same Joe that thinks we should have Manziel as our QB.

    In BA I Truat!

  2. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … The defense is carrying this team. It’s time for the offense to pull its weight.”

Thanks for telling it like it is Joe.

  3. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Please tell me how many 18 point wins or more on the road this franchise has had. You can probably count them on less than 10 fingers.

  4. Bojim Says:

    Still no run game.

  5. Miller5252 Says:

We don’t wanna end up like the falcons. Not putting your foot down and letting teams back in starts a bad snowball effect of losing games. Just like what’s happening in Atlanta.

  6. Ndog Says:

But but but I thought the great one was going to magically cure all of our ills?

    Fing lying a$$hole.

I can’t wait till they fire this loser and this immobile, overrated, bum of a QB is gone!!?

  7. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

This is our preseason Joe relax. By mid October this offense will be humming.
By mid October Realisto and his puppy dog will be in hibernation like he did last year.

All is coming together. Remember Brady is our QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!

  8. Ndog Says:

Yeah Brady is our QB so we are screwed if we give up ANU PRESSURE AT ALL. Good luck with that.

  9. Youngbucs Says:

Ndog you a virgin???? Saving yourself for Winston? 🤡

  10. firethecannons Says:

starts and ends with donovan smith

  11. Lamarcus Says:

Offense is not exciting…borderline trash. BL needs to go

  12. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Ol’ NDong…don’t go away mad…just go away. ( I liked Winston too…just didn’t work out. Might have been the uniforms. )

  13. Ricky Says:

Joe what happened to your thinking that the defense should carry the team to start the season while the offense gets it together?
I think our offense is getting better every game.

  14. Ndog Says:

Lamarcus BL is not the problem. It’s the statue, inaccurate QB that’s the problem.

  15. Lamarcus Says:

And some ppl are delusional thinking a 43 year can get better

  16. JameisWillRiseAgain Says:

Poor Donovan smith and Byron leftwich. Bucs fan base has an issue with black people. Thank god jameis got out from under this organization

  17. Bobby Says:

Brady can still sling it and it was a sloppy performance by the offense in the second half. Say what you want about Brady Ndog, I didn’t see him chuck any up in the air for grabs while he was getting sacked like your daddy did.

  18. Lamarcus Says:

And you know its not all Brady fault either. Its BL he is the problem

Mike Evans 2 games with 2 yards total??? Da F?

  19. Darin Says:

A wins a win. The Panthers game was too close for comfort. This one not so much. Every team has issues. Have less than the other team that Sunday and its gona be good

  20. ModHairKen Says:

    They won. Quit whining.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I agree with the sloppy play…..too many penalties…..we simply can’t run on first down…..
You can whine all you like about Fournette touches but Rojo had over 4ypc…..

At least our offense didn’t turn it over…..

    And,,I think we’ve found our #3 receiver…..>SCOTTY!!! what a catch…

And, we used Gromk some today…..that was a pleasant surprise.

  22. SufferingSince76 Says:

Thanks for the insightful analysis of the game, Ndog. You have as much hope of Brady going away as we do of you going away. None.

  23. Bobby Says:

What is this? BLM? Byron Leftwich matters?😂

  24. Joe Says:

    They won. Quit whining.

Might want to tell that to Arians, who also complained about the sloppy offense on the Buccaneers Radio Network postgame show. And John Gilmore, also of the Buccaneers Radio Network, who is even more direct about this than Joe is.

If you think it’s just fine for the Bucs offense to go into the sh!tter in the second half against the Packers and the Chiefs (or even the Chargers), you are in for a rude awakening.

Playoff teams don’t do this week after week. That’s not “whining,” that’s an absolute fact.

  25. Bird Says:

    Jameiswill rise again

    Hey joe.

Big hog has changed poster name and is race baiting again. Cause thats all he can do. Henny and hog. Whatever that means. Get these guys out of here
    Trash

  26. Joe Says:

Big hog has changed poster name and is race baiting again.

    What’s his new username?

  27. Mike C Says:

I have a feeling that by the end of the year Brady will get this them to improve in the area of sloppy play, with our previous qb he would lead the team in sloppy play…….. so no wonder the team was never able to shake sloppy play. Just washing our selves clean of you know who, by mid season the play will be much crisper on Offense.

  28. Rick Brooks Says:

I’m thrilled the Bucs won, but I too am concerned with the lack of second half production. At times it seems the opponents are doing a better job of making adjustments at halftime. Hopefully, that will change as the team gets used to playing together and they get deeper into the season. This team truly has the talent to beat anyone, and I can’t wait to see them put their foot on the opponents throats in the second half (figuratively, of course). Go Bucs!

  29. Rayjay1122 Says:

Hey Ndog, as disgusted as you are with Brady and as much as you can’t wait for the bum to be gone is exactly how all of the text of us felt about your boy. Now you know the feeling.

  30. JustBucNwin Says:

We still have a lot of work to do! Too much talent to not score 40+ each week! Mixture of vanilla play calling and undisciplined!

  31. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

Joe and BA spoke the truth. Our O relaxes in the second half of games and needs to knock it off. As for the morons who keep attacking Brady, you are truly beyond stupid. Here’s his stat line from today:

    65.8% completions
    297 yds
    3 TD
    0 INT
    115.8 passer rating.

So, idiots, he’s won 221 games, 9 AFC Championships and 6 Super Bowls playing this way. And he’s led us to consecutive double digit wins and a 2-1 record to start the season.

Legitimate, intelligent criticism is fine. But you asshats make reading this site miserable at times. It’s like having to read Joe’s prefaces to Brady, Gronk, Jameis, and Peter King and your stupid, childish, snowflake takes every time you post. No offense Joe.

  32. Buc N A Says:

Fournette wasn’t played more because he will show what a bust Jones is. The coaching staff does not want to make themselves or the higher ups look more stupid than we know they are.

  33. jcscycles Says:

Offense definitely relaxed after the first 25 minutes. But the defense sure didn’t. When was the last time we saw the Bucs defense beat the starting quarterback up so bad that his coach pulled him? Steelers almost lost to these guys last week in Pittsburgh.

  34. Architek Says:

It starts and ends up front.

WAIT WAIT WAIT, the Bucs averaged 28.something points last year.

The Bucs got the same amount this game. How are you gonna trash today’s offense when they scored the same amount as last years team?

You want to know the difference??? Turnovers!!! When you spot the other team 7.5 points per game, that is a recipe for disaster!

NPUPPY, want to go toe to toe on facts??? I bet you say no. You don’t want any of this smoke, kid!!!

THANK GOF THE CANCER IS GONE AND WE CAN FINALLY BREATHE AGAIN!!!!

  36. Steven Says:

Is it the offense becoming lackluster and lazy in the second half? Or is it the offensive coordinator being out coached after halftime adjustments?

  37. Cobraboy Says:

    C’mon.

Tghis was, in essense, the third preseason game.

  38. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

Leftwich is the problem. He calls runs on first down more than any coach in the league. It isn’t working!! He actually did it a little less today, and it was still too much. The offense works best when we call quick passes and play action, aka The Pats offense that Brady ran for 20 years. It looks crap when we call HB dive on first downs and then passing plays that take too long to develop. Oh, and on third and short, when a team can call anything in the playbook, Leftwich called an empty backfield. STOP TELLING THE DEFENSE WHAT WE ARE DOING!!! Byron needs to be shot from the cannon into the sun.

  39. Buczilla Says:

Our defense saved our butts and our lack of decent run blocking in this game really pi$$es me off. Gronk looks like he’s getting into a rhythm and Brady threw 0 picks and 3 TD’s. “Out of sight, out of mind” would have been good for at least 2 picks and a fumble, making this game one hell of a lot closer. So nice to not cringe every time my QB goes back to pass. I felt like I was getting f’ing tourettes the last couple of years. 😛

  40. Joe Says:

Or is it the offensive coordinator being out coached after halftime adjustments?

    Fair question.

Joe doesn’t think, though, that Leftwich is causing the o-line to get flagged like it is in the second half. That’s just lack of discipline.

  41. Georger Says:

28 Points, not bad. Remember when we had King and Dilfer all we would hope for 18 points. Now we are complaining about 28 points.

Now if you want to complain about not putting 4 quaters in the books I would agree.

  42. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

    Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:
“Oh, and on third and short, when a team can call anything in the playbook, Leftwich called an empty backfield.”
    .

    .
That one had me scratching my head, also. Not even any motion. Nothing. Might as well paint a sign that says, “Hey guys, pin your ears back!”

  43. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

    Joe Says:
“Or is it the offensive coordinator being out coached after halftime adjustments?

    Fair question.”
    .
    .

I’ve thought that our coaches are getting beaten at halftime through the Koetter and Arians staffs. Glad I’m not the only one.

I want to hear Ian Beckles opinion on building a Super Bowl champ.

  45. SOEbuc Says:

Defense was great except they were playing Smitty off scheme where completions should not have been made.

  46. SOEbuc Says:

SMH. Donovan Smith is a broken player constantly spinning around in old hockey game at the bar. MOVE WIRFS TO LT!!! He played strong again except for a BS hands to the face penalty.

  47. JameisAlmighty Says:

The offense is terrible with Brady at QB. Jameis would have this team 3-0 and on its way to a perfect season and a Super Bowl.

  48. Bucsfan951 Says:

Who dat in first place in the nfc south?

  49. MtBucsfan Says:

Yea the offense needs to keep their foot on the opponents throat in the 2nd half. But at the same time this team has played 3 dam games together. I’m going to wait to see what happens against the packers before I worry too much. I’ll enjoy the win over my wifes team today.

  50. Wideleftandright Says:

    Remember Brad johnson??
Tom still has the same skills.
You have to be better than avg and a game manager.
    Tom still can do that.
Relax all, every team doesn’t need Patrick mahomes.
    Go Bucs!!
