Our Do-It-All Safety

September 27th, 2020

Is there anything Antoine Winfield, Jr. can’t do?

Joe is mesmerized watching the Bucs’ rookie safety.

Dude has two sacks already (with one today), and he added batted down pass to his list of accomplishments this afternoon. Throw in six combined tackles (four solo) and Winfield continues to deliver in reality and on the stat sheet.

Can you say, “Playmaker?”

Joe can.

The guy continues to remind Joe of Rondé Barber, the quickness, the instincts, the production, and Barber needed more than a full season to start being, well, Rondé Barber.

Winfield is in the Defensive Rookie Of The Year conversation, and heck, he might just get another game ball from Bucco Bruce Arians this week like he did last week.

It’s so rare to see a rookie march through September looking like a complete player. Joe hopes all fans are enjoying Winfield as much as Joe is.

For those who missed it yesterday, Winfield also coaches up veterans.

One the last drive I almost couldnt believe Winfield didnt make that INT.

It would have taken an amazing play to do it but I almost expect Winfield to get it. This guy is a very special player.

I think its time we consider Bowles the DB whisperer. Look at his history. And somebody creative come up with a better name the the DB whisperer.

  2. Bojim Says:

    Love him!

  3. DBS Says:

    But he’s to small remember?

  4. Bangkok Buc Says:

He is a stud. I’m due for a jersey and think I’m now going #31

  5. Sport Says:

He’s faster, more physical and light years better than Ronde 3 games in. He’s also got a weaker supporting cast, Ronde was able to do his thing because he was surrounded by perrenial pro bowlers and hall of famers.

Screw Rookie of the year, This guy will be an All Pro!

    In BA I Trust!

2nd round steal of a deal!!! WOW

  7. SufferingSince76 Says:

The guy has to be one of the big steals of the draft. Let’s hope he’s here for a long time.

  8. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

And no preseason games under his belt. Very impressive.

Arians has make Licht a better GM.

    Go Bucs!!!

  9. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Did you see him not bite on the receivers inside juke and forced him out of bounds? Too many dbs bite on the 1st move

  10. Casual Observer Says:

    Outstanding player.

  11. Bobby Says:

Quality player and class act. Great pickup at a position of need.

  12. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    Smooth Operator!
Jason Lite can stop drafting DB’s and kickers !
The young guns are coming together in the backend of the defense… say where was last year’s 1round pick today?

  17. Bucsfan951 Says:

After 3 games, the kid is a stud!

  18. Cobraboy Says:

    31 is the new 47.

    What a bad a$$ safety.

  19. JimBuc2 Says:

Got to give props to GM Licht. Jason has had to grow some thick skin, and rightly so, but he smoked this draft class. Consider that without benefit of OTA’s,TC, or preseason games two of his 2020 picks are proving themselves right away. Winfield and Wirfs are prima facie evidence that Licht is getting much better in drafting new roster talent. Enough so that I think he has atoned for the horrid 2016 Aquayo pick. Beginning with Vital Vea in 2018, and securing Brady, Gronk and Ryan Succup this off-season, not to mention retaining virtually all of our free agents shows some GM savvy, Licht is securing a solid resume. Also, remember we haven’t seen the full 2020 draft class yet; Ke’Shawn Vaughn and Tyler Johnson have yet to log game-time snaps. Keep it up Mr. Light!
    Go Bucs!!

  20. jcscycles Says:

Coaches work with the GMs in drafting, and in some cases have the final say. You can see how much better it’s been since Arians and Bowles came aboard the ship. Mike Smith was at best bad.

Tyler Johnson played today. Had a drop, but he looked like he belonged out there.

  21. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Told you after the draft he was a great pick where the Bucs got him. Only knock against him in college has been durability. If he stays healthy I think we’ll all tip out hat to Licht for nabbing a round 2 steal.

  22. Topdoggie Says:

Our fourth round safety whitehead isn’t looking bad either. He is turning into a steal.

  23. StatGuy Says:

You can tell who has had the say on the dbs we bring in since bowled got here

  24. StatGuy Says:

    Bowled*

  25. Buc1987 Says:

    He’s all over the field.

  26. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

    >>Joe hopes all fans are enjoying Winfield as much as Joe is.<<

He's not only on point, but he's loose and enjoying himself like a guy who's had 2 years in the same defense.

    Count me in!

  27. Nate1111 Says:

Mike evans and winfield are the best players the bucs have right nowa

  28. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

With his speed, fluidity and confidence, I wonder why he doesn’t play cornerback.

  29. ItzOK Says:

Love this kid felt he was a perfect fit to sure up the defense on the backend. Scary thought is he is going to get better. He is always around the ball and I can see some Int’s coming later in the year. Keep ballin
