“It’s Ridiculous. It’s Starting To Look Like A Pro Bowl Roster.”
September 4th, 2020A Hall of Fame running back looks at the Buccaneers roster and is in disbelief, and he has questions.
Tampa Bay is loaded with true household names on its offense with two Pro Bowl wide receivers, Rob Gronkowski, LeSean McCoy and Leonard Fournette alongside the most successful quarterback in NFL history, Tom Brady. Throw in under-30-year-old potential weapons like O.J. Howard, Ronald Jones (a couple of big-college studs) and Cameron Brate, and it’s gotten awfully silly in Tampa.
“It’s ridiculous. It’s starting to look like a Pro Bowl roster,” Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis barked on Peacock network yesterday.
Davis played with studs Rod Smith, Shannon Sharpe and Ed McCaffrey on his ’97 and ’98 Super Bowl teams. But there were no other big talents other than aging-fast Willie Green at receiver.
So that’s likely why Davis is concerned about how Bucco Bruce Arians will manage the egos because, as Davis notes, players must be “happy with their roles.”
Davis wouldn’t back off that despite host Rich Eisen pushing him a bit, saying Brady and Arians will handle that. Davis was adamant that Mike Evans and Chris Godwin have to be taken care of in the offense.
Eisen shrugged Davis off again and dove into the Bucs bandwagon. “It’s tough not to think and just jump head first go all-in on this thing right now,” Eisen said.
Joe believes the Bucs will/should/better score 30 points a game if Brady stays healthy. And that’s a ticket to the playoffs every time.
Joe can’t go much farther than that now. The defense has much to prove and the Bucs have a challenging schedule to navigate, with five road games and the Packers in Tampa in the first eight games. If they come out of that stretched with a winning record, Joe will be damn impressed.
September 4th, 2020 at 2:03 pm
@Joe,
I apologize for the off-topic question, but will the built-in crowd noise in the regular season be constant? Or will we have the option to turn the noise off while on offense and pump the crowd noise in while on defense at RayJay….
Thanks in advance and go Bucs!
September 4th, 2020 at 2:06 pm
I like Gronk but would have rather spent that money in the secondary. Too many weapons fighting over one ball can cause division in the locker room.
September 4th, 2020 at 2:14 pm
Shannon Sharpe looks like a horse
September 4th, 2020 at 2:14 pm
winning is the only thing this locker room cares about…
imo, we’ll lean on the defense the first few weeks but after that the offense will exploded and put up record points….
it wont be a cake walk because we’ll be getting everyones best shot….but we have a group of motivated vets mixed with hungry talented youth….12-4!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!!
September 4th, 2020 at 2:15 pm
Go Bucs!!!!
September 4th, 2020 at 2:19 pm
^ Well said.
September 4th, 2020 at 2:19 pm
Usually its the “make or break” claims from everyone!!!!!! But for ole stale biscuit it will be the “FIRED or RETIRED”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ole stale biscuit will retire if the roster candrag him to a Superbowl appearance, and anything else, he is FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And injuries will not be an acceptable excuse!!!!!!!! He bought old players and purchased players with known injury history!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ” real” fans expect ole stale biscuit to crumbled like he always does under pressure!!!!!!!!!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 4th, 2020 at 2:20 pm
Two of the more selfless WRs in the league and OJ will always take a back seat to Gronk with zero attitude unless he goes off then Gronk will just be happy to be playing for 10 Mill.
Trust me, ME just wants to win.
I honestly can’t think of a single selfish player on this roster that will complain if we are winning so the only 1 ball to go around doesn’t hold water for this team.
September 4th, 2020 at 2:33 pm
The key is winning. As long as the Bucs are winning, everyone will be happy with their roles. It’s when you’re not winning that people get me first and want their touches and stats and money, etc.
September 4th, 2020 at 2:40 pm
Anthem,
I’ve been saying that for 20 years!

September 4th, 2020 at 2:52 pm
We have to get past the New Orleans Saints first! I was feeling pretty with the coming signing of Leonard Fournette but now I hear the Saints are pretty close to signing DE Jadeveon Clowney. If they get him, there is no stopping the Saints front four. The Saints already had 50 plus sack last year and now to add Clowney would be insane.
September 4th, 2020 at 2:56 pm
Can Nfrog, El Bucco Fake-A-Leasto, and the rest of the trolls start a “Johnny Non Bucs Fan” website?
September 4th, 2020 at 3:04 pm
@topdoggie,
I disagree. This team knows it’s win now, not pad stats now. Also, Gronk will appreciate not being the focal point of an offense so he can share the burden. Evans and Godwin have never been anything but supportive of each other. If anything, I bet we’ll see a whole lot of fun on this offense *if* it translates onto the field during games into points and wins.
The most competition we’re going to see is between Bucs offense vs Bucs defense. Who’s going to be making more plays for wins.
Contrary to what’s being said about Tom being methodical and BA being ok with it, I expect to see a LOT of downfield throws like Brady to Moss or Fitz to Desean. Brady does not shy away from chucking the ball if he has WRs who can get open.
September 4th, 2020 at 3:08 pm
Bucs realist if Tampa wins the championship it will be one of the best sports stories in all of sports. Bruce was never going to last five years. He said it himself last year that if they win the Super Bowl bowl he’d retire. You can eat your stale biscuit talk. Real Bucs fans want a Super Bowl win at home in the Big Guava. No excuses.
September 4th, 2020 at 3:17 pm
Still no word if 5th round WR Tyler Johnson will make the cut. If so, he would be the 6th WR.
September 4th, 2020 at 3:21 pm
Winning is the greatest elixir!
September 4th, 2020 at 3:23 pm
clearly terrell davis have no idea who mike and godwin are. they wont care about targets or touchdowns as long as they are winning.
September 4th, 2020 at 3:24 pm
Joe the Bucs upgraded so many aspects of the roster this year. Can you please upgrade this website and get an ignore button?
September 4th, 2020 at 3:27 pm
We are paper champs until we are the 1st team to win the SB, we have a shot next year also. I tried not to drink the cool aid, i like many others have been disappointed many times before, but I like this flavor and I feel like this is Christmas. Go Bucs!
September 4th, 2020 at 3:27 pm
Trade stats for a Lombardi?! Yes sir!
September 4th, 2020 at 3:47 pm
An ignore button would be Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 4th, 2020 at 3:55 pm
Dewey, correct. However remember what happened when Lee Flowers called us paper champions… 😉
September 4th, 2020 at 3:56 pm
You know you have an overactive algorithm when my previous comment was somehow flagged for moderation. :/
September 4th, 2020 at 4:12 pm
From 10 years ago maybe LOL
September 4th, 2020 at 4:13 pm
I remember the first Olympic basketball dream team. Jordan, Bird, Magic and many more. They set their egos aside. They played to win and win they did. I hope this team can have the same chemistry. I believe they can with Jordan, I mean Brady leading the way. Go Bucs!
September 4th, 2020 at 4:25 pm
Only my Bucs and I believe I said this last year – team captains might not even be on the team the following year – Jameis (gone), Dare (gone) Nassib (gone). This is how bad the roster was last year
September 4th, 2020 at 4:33 pm
This team is of Pro Bowl quality because players want to play on a team led by Tom Brady.
September 4th, 2020 at 4:35 pm
Anyone care to predict the last 7 cuts?
September 4th, 2020 at 5:21 pm
Stanglassman Says, “Anyone care to predict the last 7 cuts?”
Here is my prediction:
WR Mickens
OL Stinnie
OL Molchon
OL Wells
LB Daniels
LB Divinity
LS Zach Triner (resigned later to the 53)
September 4th, 2020 at 5:24 pm
Not sure if Justin Evan can be cut without an injury settlement. If so, I am guessing he will be cut.
September 4th, 2020 at 5:30 pm
Stanglassman I like the structure Greg Aunan put out below today: The cuts are still my opinion.
IF we assume Griffin is QB3 Auclair is TE4 and Adams is S4 then:
S Justin Evans
WR Johnson (Only because I read Mickens will make the 53 and is the starting return man)
OL Stinnie
OL Mochon
LB Bell
LB Daniels
September 4th, 2020 at 5:51 pm
CB Ryan Smith might be a possible cut. He is great on special teams but the rookie Motley had a better camp at CB.
September 4th, 2020 at 6:04 pm
With all this talent…..I think we should throw the ball to Vea inside the 5…..
Sorry, Gronk, OJ, Godwin, Brate, Evans, Rojo, Shady, Leonard……
September 4th, 2020 at 6:14 pm
These players have been losing for so long nobody will guve a rats ass about targeta they want wins Not concerned
September 4th, 2020 at 6:40 pm
If they cut the kid from Minnesota (WR), I predict they will be sorry.
September 4th, 2020 at 6:45 pm
Alvin Scissors Harper Says, “If they cut the kid from Minnesota (WR), I predict they will be sorry.”
The way BA raved about drafting Tyler Johnson, I can’t imagine they would release him. Besides he was injured most of training camp for the Bucs to make an evaluation. I am pretty sure – no way they cut him.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:00 pm
Alabama, if you watched him play college football in a major conference, you’ll agree with me. Guessing you are an Alabama fan, and I appreciates almost all of your opinions. He was exceptional x10 in that bowl game against Auburn. He has a chance to be something special – even more special than the LIghtning’s Tyler Johnson. Go Bolts!
When has the Tampa Bay area had a realistic chance at a Super Bowl, Stanley Cup and World Series Trophy? Never before, but we do for all three this year!!!
September 4th, 2020 at 7:10 pm
This is what happens when you get rid of the cancer from the team and put a true leader behind center.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:15 pm
Alabama & Mitch-Those 53 are both good as any. I saw the Auman picks too. I agree that Mickens and Motley will make it. I think they’ll find a way to keep WR T. Johnson or at least keeping him protected from being available. Maybe get a convenient injury and go on the PUP list.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:32 pm
951, you are speaking the truth! Jay Miss is the true cancer. But, now he’s NOLA’s problem as the 3rd stringer.
September 4th, 2020 at 7:51 pm
You both better hope the supposed cancer doesn’t play against this “pro bowl” roster.
Also you better hope the Saints don’t land Clowney. Or this could turn into the Blaine Gabbert circus tent dumpster fire
September 4th, 2020 at 7:54 pm
Clowney is a clown! He’s never lived up anywhere close to his hype! I saw that wonderful sack in person against Michigan in the Outback Bowl. The cancer doesn’t have any chance of playing QB unless Brees and Hill are injured.
September 4th, 2020 at 8:10 pm
I’m thinking Vita Vea as the lead block for Fournette inside the 5 years line
September 4th, 2020 at 8:19 pm
Bucs said fifth round draft pick WR Tyler Johnson has made the 53-man roster.
September 4th, 2020 at 8:37 pm
@Alabamabucsfan. Good. I wanted to say Johnson would make the cut but knowing Hurst & Mickens were already making the final 53 I didn’t see how the Bucs would keep seven receivers. Now it appears Hurst will go on IR this Sunday, and they will sign someone else off waivers or maybe the bring Safety Dixon back or the rookie LB Russell.
September 4th, 2020 at 9:08 pm
But how bout that Brad Johnson? Thx NBC Ch 8
September 4th, 2020 at 9:33 pm
Clean House you better hope when winston gets an opportunity he doesn’t blow it. Because the saints are a great franchise according to you and some others his excuses to fail are over now right???????
September 4th, 2020 at 9:34 pm
Saints not tolerating those dumb turnovers they didn’t draft him he has no rope left.
September 4th, 2020 at 9:41 pm
You’re only as good as your weakest link, and despite all the skill talent on offense, how average is the OL? Brady is going to get rid of the ball much quicker than Winston, but he also can’t take a sack nearly as well. NE kept Brady clean for the majority of his career, and the Bucs will have to figure out how to do that.
September 4th, 2020 at 10:53 pm
An additional player was cut today, center Anthony Fabiano. The final 6 should be announce by 4pm tomorrow.
September 4th, 2020 at 10:59 pm
DalvinCookRules says, “You’re only as good as your weakest link, and despite all the skill talent on offense, how average is the OL? ”
Actually the Bucs’ OL was ranked pretty high in pass blocking last year and as a whole, ranked 7th by PFF. Now with Wirfs, they might even be better this year.
September 4th, 2020 at 11:32 pm
Nobody is selfish – until they are…. Brady has a lot of mouths to feed. Records and contract years matter to individual WR’s. Current wisdom is that winning is what matters – playoffs, etc. We shall see.
September 4th, 2020 at 11:53 pm
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Been a busy Friday.
If the scrimmage was a taste of what it was to be in the regular season, the noise will be constant. And guess who wants it that way? Coaches. That’s not a misprint.
The coaches were the ones who pushed for fake crowd noise because they were concerned (paranoid) defenses would be picking up their signals.
September 5th, 2020 at 12:18 am
This is what happens when the Glazers authorize Jason Licht to pursue bringing Bruce Arians out of retirement and making a 2-3 year plan to go all in for the Lombardi Trophy!
September 5th, 2020 at 5:17 pm
@Joe,
Thanks for info and interesting tidbit on the coaches POV!
To me it’d make sense they want louder crowd noise while team is in defense and lower the volume of the crowd noise (to some degree) when we have the football on offense.
But then again, my opinion means squat
