Forgotten Catch Was Huge
September 20th, 2020Joe is guessing a lot of folks were peeved this wasn’t a touchdown pass. In retrospect, it was one of the most important catches of the game.
The Bucs simply dominated the Stinking Panthers in the first half. They were clobbering these cats and frankly the game should have been put away in the third quarter. Instead, Carolina damn near came back. Maybe in past years, the Bucs would have fully choked (think Giants)?
With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, the Bucs had the ball at midfield, first-and-10. Park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady dropped back to pass on a flea flicker and reserve wide receiver Justin Watson, quicker than he looks, had blown past the Carolina defense to the right side on the trick play. Brady’s throw came after a handoff to Leonard Fournette was pitched back to him.
Brady’s pass however was underthrown. Joe was almost waiting for Watson to keep running and not come back for it or somehow lose his footing.
But no! The Penn grad used that Ivy League degree and not just came back for the ball, but knowing that making that catch was so vital, Watson dropped to his knees in order to make sure he caught the ball.
Watson, kneeling, looked like he was fair catching a punt. But his attention to detail was key. Making the catch was more important than any potential YAC. And he got the ball.
First down Bucs on the Stinking Panthers-17. Leonard Fournette would later punch the ball in for a 21-0 lead.
Yeah, fans might focus a lot of the terrible drops today. But it was one key catch of a less-than-ideal pass that Joe will remember as a critical catch on a scoring drive to take a three-touchdown lead — in a game that later had Carolina trimming that lead to one touchdown.
Gotta love the bag of tricks 👀

Brady didn’t have time to set his fingers on the laces after the flea flicker so he didn’t get a good spiral on it. It happens. Great play anyway.
September 20th, 2020 at 5:34 pm
Very fortunate for sure! I saw the replay from the pitch back to Brady and it looked like the way the ball landed in his hand he wasn’t able to throw the pass with the laces. Thrilled for the completion. Excited for the first win of the season. I hope there are eleven more like-em.

Watson and Miller are fine for 3rd and 4th receivers. When CG14 returns it will be hard for ANY 3rd or 4th receiver to get many touches.
The team has ME13…CG 14..and three TE’s who can catch as well as three RB’s who are good out of the backfield catching the ball.
They played well enough for their ranking among all of these targets.

Great catch by Watson, they need to start using Brate a bit more

i want all my friends to know that are constantly, incessantly, vigorously and regularly in my face about how much they despise the political entity known as the NFL. I keep telling them that it’s a boot licking, ass kissing, dick sucking and pond scumming entertainment outfit that will cater to the dumbest of the politically correct puppet crowd. The artificial noise addition to their broadcasts is so funny and pre-school like that only the zombie Sunday crown isn’t laughing out loud at it. And now those shallow PC Bull Crap commercials to show how much they CARE and to keep the peaceful rioters off their doorstep are even more hilarious.

I think we will see Tyler Johnson in a week or so

All things considered being down one of your top two who was a pro bowler and another WR who was a 3rd the WR corps has been performing.
Now TE’s that’s another story.

Who the hell is grayson?!!
GO BUCS

What also quietly went unnoticed was our Kicker……4-4 on extra points and 1-1 on a crucial FG……that’s exactly whet we want, for our Kicker to be unnoticed.
September 20th, 2020 at 6:10 pm
TBBF
Agree completely! We want our kicker to go unnoticed. But I feel like ST’s are our last major area of concern so I was noticing.
Clodhopper and Joe both mentioned this was a game we probably don’t win last year. I held my breath during all of Succop’s kicks but I’m feeling better now.

LET”S BE HONEST…
It was a very poor throw… not getting hand on laces or not. That should have been an easy TD.
Same goes for the pass that *doinked* off Grayson’s helmet. Grayson should have caught that BUT…
That was a piss poor throw by Brady. He was WIDE OPEN. That should have been an easy TD as well.

September 20th, 2020 at 6:59 pm
I think the announcer Matt pointed out right away that the laces were out.
HeeHee Ace Ventura Ray Finkel.

Actually a beautiful catch by Watson with his hands extended and he caught it perfectly to pivot to get the most out of it he could.
September 20th, 2020 at 8:11 pm
Last year it would have been an INT or a fumble.. Happy he caught it, and of course for the win!
September 20th, 2020 at 8:22 pm
Let’s be honest. We won but some of you people are going to find things to b!tch about regardless. Because that is what you love to do in life.
September 20th, 2020 at 8:25 pm
I don’t know about all of you… but I am humbled and impressed by the impassioned rant by jason allen.
If only we could all be as intelligent and enlightened as he is.
September 20th, 2020 at 9:21 pm
Literally all he had to do was not drop the ball – he was wide open. It’s sad that we’re celebrating him not dropping a wide open ball. I know I call him the Ryan Smith of the offense, which means he’s worthless, but even Ryan Smith can tackle guys (he has lot of practice since he’s burned so often by them).
September 20th, 2020 at 9:27 pm
But wait I thought this year would be better than a 1 to 1 td to interception ratio and all of our relievers were going to get hit in stride every play? This offense is BAD with Brady. Luckily we have a running game now or it would be painfully obvious to any of you who just wanted a white qb no matter what. Really hope they do well but if/when the bucs flop it will be hard to feel sorry for the worst fanbase in sports.
September 20th, 2020 at 9:35 pm
Damn it’s hard to believe some of you are Buc fans. A good win by the Bucs, but you’re bitching as much as last Sunday. Especially when most of you couldn’t hold the jock of any NFL player.
September 20th, 2020 at 9:38 pm
the flea flicker worked really well for Brady in NE we should do it at least once every game
September 20th, 2020 at 9:42 pm
Lol! Rod Munch you have PTSD from game against the Falcons when Julio lit us up for 300 yds and Ryan Smith was always no less than 10 yards behind. And VH3 good for a tackle in the endzone.
I have it from Jameis last year and his int’s
September 20th, 2020 at 10:32 pm
I’ve been excited to see Watson with Brady if he can hit him in stride. That obviously was not.
September 21st, 2020 at 6:00 am
Justin Watson’s size and physicality are traits that should be used more by the
Bucs. Scotty Miller is fast but his height doesn’t lend itself to winning battles on contested catches because the defenders are usually bigger than him.
September 21st, 2020 at 6:57 am
I also believe J-Wat had a nice catch on the sideline as well. I have always liked this kid. Guess they will call us the Cult of J-Wat.
September 21st, 2020 at 10:42 am
I don’t know if you know history, but Dillfer and Testaverde got treatment that was far harsher from the fans. So perhaps you should do some research before you call out a entire fanbase as racist.
