Bag It, “Haters”

September 21st, 2020

Still ticking.

Joe couldn’t believe it, but a very ugly narrative about park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady was picking up steam last week.

And it all started with a professional hollerer.

That would be Max Kellerman of BSPN, who said the Bucs would have been better off with Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, in the loss to the slimy Saints.

Then former Bucs guard Ian Beckles said the same thing later that day on his podcast.

NFL Network jumped on the bandwagon and the tip of the iceberg came when NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks told Colin Cowherd on FS1 that the Bucs were having “buyer’s remorse” with Brady.

Can you imagine?

Well, Pro Football Hall of Fame selector Clark Judge, typing for SI.com, summed all that talk up basically by using one word.

Shaddup!

Reports of Tom Brady’s demise are, um, premature. Stop if you’ve heard this before. After one game … one loss … Brady haters said the QB was finished, with one report claiming the Bucs experiencing “buyer’s remorse” for adding him. Worse, his own coach (Bruce Arians) seemed to be calling him out after last weekend. Sorry, wrong number, guys. Brady did what he had to Sunday to win, completing 15 of 20 in the first half for nearly 200 yards. More important, he won. OK, so it’s the Panthers. Doesn’t matter. A win is a win is a win, and why is anyone surprised? Brady has never started a season 0-2.

Joe can sense that yesterday at about 3:45 p.m., when Leonard Fournette crossed the goal line, that the biggest sigh of relief came over the Tampa Bay area in years, like a giant weight off the region’s shouders.

Not only did the Bucs win and avoid the dreaded 0-2 start, but Brady looked like Brady and the offense, short-handed, had a very nice afternoon.

Nope. Brady’s not done. Yet.

If this team protects the football, Brady and the boys will be given the defense 30 points a game house money. For the first time in a long time the Bucs have a legit defense. Brady is still Brady, contrary to the noise against him. Buyers remorse NOT!!!! GO BUCS!!!!

  2. Sport Says:

There’s at least one of everything out there. The media is desperate. They latch on to those who have achieved the greatest accomplishments and do anything to be a part of it. And in most cases these days, that means creating a narrative to tear down those who achieve. Cancel, if possible.

It says more about the character of the individual reporting (in this case creating a story) it than the subject itself.

    Desperate, agenda driven performance art.

Unbiased, integrity driven journalism is nearly dead.

All that said, it was one game. Haters had some meat. This week they have crow. Enjoy!

    Go Bucs!

    In BA I Trust!

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Captain weenie armed Tom Brady saved by the defense and fournette

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

THEE biggest overblown story of the week, regardless of how that game turned out yesterday. Brady has dealt with this for the last five years of his career.
Anybody with any sense at all KNEW yesterday was going to be different.

“weenie armed”?! LOL! He darn near knocked Grayson unconscious with that sideline throw to the helmet.

But yeah, MAD props to the defense and…the run game!

  5. Roy T. Buford Says:

Better off with Jameis Winston? Not a chance. What a stupid thought.
Anyone who suggested they would have been better off is a bonified idiot..or just a media hack trying to attract attention. As for Beckles, I stopped listening to that underperforming loser long ago.

What we have reinforced over two games is that it is quality yards from a QB is what matters over simple volume. There is quite the body of evidence past to argue that had Winston been QB in either game, the Bucs could still be 1-1 or worse, but with a worse loss from the Saints. That is, he’d likely have added another pick in NO (for his common three), and probably at least one or two more yesterday to give CAR a short field, chances to score easily, and wear down the D. With Winston, Fournette’s final blast could very have been the play that gave the Bucs the late go-ahead score instead of the one that iced the game as it was with TB12.

Of course there is no way to know that…but it was nice yesterday not to need a QB to wrecklessly sling the ball all over creation, a la Jameis, to dig out of hole he’d created for his team earlier in the game.

On another note, surely there was a depth chart change at RB made with Fournettes superb performance.

  6. Roy T. Buford Says:

Bucsfanman…I totally agree with you and all points.

  7. Roy T. Buford Says:

    @BucsAnthem…you are delusional…clearly a Winston apologist.

  8. Pok Says:

That said – a number of errant throws still. Short, off target. I couldn’t tell on the broadcast if it was pressure or Unforced bad throws. I know every qb has some bad throws, but we have all watched a lot of Brady over 20y, and a few of those didn’t match what we have seen before. And give Brate some balls he has better hands than O.J.

  9. Joe in Michigan Says:

TheBucsAnthem: “The Bucs can’t win with Brady!”
    The Bucs win with Brady
TheBucsAnthem: “It was everyone else who won, not Brady!”

  10. SufferingSince76 Says:

Anthem, you can denigrate Brady all you want, but he’s still a good QB and you know it. He had a solid game with only a handful of bad throws. The Bucs won. If you weren’t a troll you would be happy about that.

  11. Bobby M. Says:

The offense still needs some polishing but it definitely played improved. As great as it is to have a legit QB, particularly one with Brady’s success, it was simply too optimistic to believe the chemistry would just happen overnight. We’ve had a bizarre offseason with no preseason or scrimmages with opposing teams. The bar in the NFL is set so high, that the smallest of details must be on point or the play will be a bust. I think the WR/QB reads are still meshing, by week 6 things should be clicking, then its a matter of the line just giving Brady time to dissect teams.

  12. ModHairKen Says:

Ronald Jones should not be starting anymore. He has an innate ability to run into a defender. Fournette is a better receiver and a better runner. If Jones starts this week, it is an insult to everyone involved with this team.

As with NO, this game would have been totally different had the Bucs succeeded on 3-5 plays where they failed. Here, it would have been an early blowout, whereas last week, it would have been a win.

Where are all of the cooters this week who said “I told you so” last week?

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Agree with you Joe: “Nope. Brady’s not done. Yet.” BUT … he’s still 43 years old, his mobility is meh, he’s operating under a new HC/OC/system, and he’s had minimal time to learn how to play with his new teammates. It’s the TEAM around him that needs to step up.

Our OLine once again looked like Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde to me. They were going against a beat up Panthers DLine & still didn’t exactly look overpowering … for most of the game.

Our receivers literally don’t ever seem to get open. Panthers Secondary isn’t all that good, but our WRs & TEs rarely seemed to get any really good separation (several times they did, but not often), meaning that Brady (like Jameis last year) was usually throwing into very tight windows. To his credit, he still hit on 2 out of every 3 passes (66%). Quite good IMO, considering that his receivers dropped a number of passes.

Bucs’ play design & play-calling still seems questionable to me. And to me, that’s the real story of the game, not Brady. Without the 4 TOs generated by our defense, Bucs would’ve very likely lost that game yesterday (TOP favored the Panthers almost 35 mins to 25 mins, largely because of poor play-calling IMO). Leftwich is no match for most of the other OCs in this league

  14. dmatt Says:

I agree Pok, give brate more plays, his hands are much better than OJ. OJ is very timid n passive. He has history of dropping balls. I’d take Tanner Hudson’s hands over his any day. I’m sorry OJ hasn’t proved himself to be a high first round pick.

  15. Buc4ever Says:

Brady had three passes dropped that should have been TD’s. McCoy, Miller and Grayson. I don’t get the people saying Brady is done. Give this offense a few more games to gel and by the second half of the season this team could be scary.

  16. Stanglassman Says:

That throw to Grayson got blown last second toward the sideline. I don’t think it was as bad a throw as some suggested nor do I think Grayson was at fault. People don’t realize how windy it was out there yesterday. That could have been a issue with accuracy by both Qbs.

  17. Ndog Says:

Just a reminder Brady still had 2 TOs against what might be one of the worst teams in the league, missing 2 starting dlineman at home with the benefit of 4 TOs from his defense with an actual running game. Something tells me the folks in here crowing about him playing great yesterday would not have been saying the same thing last year about the previous QB. Just shows the clear bias, including the lying backstabbing coach who said he played great yesterday.

    Flat ridiculous hypocrisy.

  18. Jason Says:

Defense Rules brings the knowledge once again. I always enjoy your comments even if I disagree. Welcome back.

  19. ClodHopper Says:

Remember who they are and put no weight into their opinions ever again. Not because they may or may not be wrong because let’s be honest, the jury is still out. But because their thought process is flawed and it was dumb to have such strong opinions so early. They suffer from #LoserThink

  20. Of course Says:

    NDOG

    WINSTON ISNT COMING BACK lmao

Remember when you called all of us idiots and you sat back and laughed and basked in your confidence that there was no way he was walking?

Tell me again why he isn’t starting somewhere or at least a legitimate backup somewhere?

  21. delson Says:

Crotch grabbing, Uber banned, pro bowl alternate, jameis Winston… Fixed it

  22. richbucsfan Says:

It would be nice if his receivers helped out by catching the ball.

  23. delson Says:

I saw at least 7 dropped passes 3 for tds maybe the rest for firsts. I can’t wait to research the game but 30/35 is alot better than what jameis was doing. Brady puts it in catchable areas in front his wrs where the db has to tangle up our wrs on deep routes. Did he miss some yes but he isn’t falling off yet. Our oline was getting blown up by Derrick Brown the Panthers first round pick. Hes going to be a beast when kawann short comes back. Wasn’t he the top interior dline in the draft? Fournette had a tired defense at the end and the blocking on his rd was awesome there was 2 double team/chip blocks and then everybody had a helmet only guy to beat was trey Boston cuz mike evans cleared his CB. Watch the game man. Know the game. Rojo will start again

  24. delson Says:

    Rewatch not research

try as you might putting JW in a positive light while bad-mouthing and showing disrespect and NO CLASS towards the GOAT is SHAMEFUL and CHILDISH and Amateurish but then again expected from this website.

Keep up the Great Work! lol

    TOP?….LMAO!!!!!!

what game were you watching?….did you not see scotty miller drop a TD?…..did you not see grayson drop a TD?….as we were driving, did you not see rojo fumble?did you not see 2 quick strikes 1 to mike evans and the second at the end of the game to seal the deal…..thats how we lost TOP…BY STRIKING QUICK!!!!

    c’mon man!!!!!

without those TOs BLs offense wouldve put up 40+…..

the play calling kept the panthers DC off balance from the start….the only thing that stopped us were TOs….BL created a run game….BL attacked every part of the field sunday…..

without the TOs last week BLs offense wouldve put up 30+ on the saints….sunday, without TOs leftwich wouldve put up 40+…..

GIVE CREDIT WERE CREDIT IS DUE!!!!!!!!!…BL DID A GREAT JOB SUNDAY!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  30. 813bucboi Says:

so let me get this str8, we lose and its BLs fault…..we win, its brady….lol…OK…i wonder why?

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  31. 123urout Says:

Thank God we have Brady on our side. If it’s the other guy, we would be 0-2 right now. Go Bucs! Go TB12 !

  32. RICHARD weeks Says:

Where is “el jerko” ? The Bucs win and he has no comment
Ndog and el jerko what miserable people they are..Only Real Bucs fans support the team win or lose..I really wish joe would ban these two idiots.

  33. JimBuç2 Says:

Best line from announcers: “Brady said ‘I was married for twenty years to my old team. I’ve been dating this one for four months’. And the point is well made. Once this offence gets on that same page we’ve been hearing about these guys will scorch the NFL. As for Greyson, well one analyist said ‘a great track star does not mean a great receiver’. I would agree with that. Also, good on @Stanglassman for noting the stiff breeze during the game. I noticed a ref’s uniform snapping sharply a couple times myself. Finally, I think TBBF is Realisto’s favorite furry sheep bunny.
Go Bucs! Ride into Denver and bust them Broncs!

  34. Cobraboy Says:

Brady does not need to be perfect for this team to win.

I recall Warren Sapp’s order: “Just give us 17 points and we will win.”

Had the Bucs O & ST’s not given away at least 2 TD’s in NO, this D is close to that number.

  35. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

Joe, thanks for summarizing Ian Beckles’ occasional actual football takes. I find him unlistenable and figured he’d be bashing Brady and droning about the Saints’ 3rd string QB this season.

  36. Defense Rules Says:

@813bucboi … “GIVE CREDIT WERE CREDIT IS DUE!!!!!!!!!…BL DID A GREAT JOB SUNDAY!!!!!”

Oh I’ve got a hunch we watched the same game Bucboi, just came to different conclusions. At the 18 min point into the game, Bucs’ defense had forced 2 TOs, forced 1 Panther punt, and held them once on downs at the Tampa 36. Bucs’ offense went on to score 2 TDs off the TOs & another off the stop on downs. Bucs ahead 21-0 at the 18 min point, with over 11 mins of TOP. In the remaining 42 mins of gametime, we gained another 14 mins of TOP. Bucs led 21-0 at halftime.

Bucs scored another 10 pts in the last 42 mins, thanks to Fournette’s 46 yd run with 2 mins left in the game plus a FG. Panthers meanwhile scored 24 pts in the 2nd half to get back in the game. After the 21-0 lead in that first 18 mins, Bucs offense showed me nothing until Fournette’s big run in the last 2 mins. Without the Bucs’ D forcing 4 TOs in the game, Panthers could’ve won that game despite having a beat up defense.

And sorry Bucboi, but dropped passes by our receivers only tells me that our offense wasn’t nearly as productive as they should have been. Look at the play-by-play and you’ll see lots of times when Brady was put into a 3rd-and-long situation because of not just dropped passes but also meh play-calls on 1st & 2nd down.

  37. 813bucboi Says:

    DR

BL was establishing the run game which caused the CAR defense to get tired….which obviously led to fournette breaking loose to seal the deal….

you cant blame dropped passes on “offensive production”…you blame that on the player…dropped passes means a missed opportunity….prefect play call but the execution by the player was lacking….thats not on BL…..

IMO we should be a little more critical of the defense….bowles needs to step up in the 4th quarter….

3rd quarter5:03 drooped a dragger which led to a punt….Teddy went 4 for 4 to close out the 3rd quarter…beginning of the 4th quarter, PENALTY by nunez-roches help CMAC get his TD…..

we forced the INT at 10:15…BL went on to call 4 straight runs…he continued to establish the run during crunch time…..another dagger was dropped by shady…..

Teddy went 6 for 7 giving them a FG…..CARs defense was gassed because of the running game BL established with rojo and fournette thru 3 quarters……their defense wanted no parts of our run game and BL exploited that!!…..3rd times a charm….fournette finally put the dagger in….

the play by play shows BL was committed to running the ball…..

sorry Defense, bowles has to stop giving up BIG PLAYS during the 4th quarter….BL sealed the deal with the run game….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  38. SmoothBayRider Says:

NDOG is a Saints fan .

  39. Defense Rules Says:

813bucboi … Bucs ran a grand total of 22 times in 60 mins of play, as compared to 35 passes (plus 1 sack for 36 total attempts). That means that they ran on 38% of their plays. I would hardly call that focusing on the run game.

And I agree with you about the Bucs’ D in the 4th qtr. I’m sure that they were trying to keep everything in front of them, but danged, I really don’t like to see a team play like that. Much rather see them stay aggressive for the full 60 mins. But then again, it might’ve been the Bucs’ defense that was gassed. They were on the field for 34:32 mins, almost 10 mins more than the Panthers’ defense.

  40. 813bucboi Says:

    DR

you know just like every coach in the nfl along with every bucs fan, “right now” we are a better passing team than running team….BL isnt going to go 50/50 run/pass just for the sake of “appearing” to be balanced….he stuck with what we do best which is passing the ball BUT continued to run the ball effectively….dont look at the attempts…look at the production…the effectiveness…..

what will you say next week when we put up 40+ and get the W?….

because thats what wouldve happened if shady and grayson execute the play….

    45-12 BUCS WIN!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  41. bojim Says:

‘a giant weight off the region’s shoulders.’

    I definitely felt it.

  42. Joe in Michigan Says:

I’m sure the Brady bashers didn’t see the 2 perfect passes dropped in the end zone, or the pass that bounced off Cyril Grayson’s helmet that would’ve been a long gain or TD. Grayson reminds me of how Perriman looked early last year, terrible.

  43. Buczilla Says:

Kellerman is a clown. It’s so nice to have a proven QB and RB again.
