Touchdown Tommy

Joe confesses to not wanting to see this too often.

Joe has been on record since training camp first started that park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Bucs quarterback Tom Brady is more nimble than Joe ever remembered him playing for the Belicheats.

Even Peter King added a few days ago that he thought Brady looked “fairly nimble” while wearing the creamsicle practice jersey of a Bucs quarterback.

In a red zone series at Bucs practice today, Brady had what appeared to Joe to be a quarterback draw. This clearly buffaloed the defense. After all, who would expect Brady to try to be Michael Vick?

Brady dropped back maybe two or three steps and saw a hole bigger than a two-door garage. So he put his wheels in drive and ran just to the right of center.

Brady was just about to break the plane of the goal line when a linebacker came screaming from the right side of the defense towards Brady. When Brady heard the footsteps, he flinched a bit, almost looking like he expected to get blasted, and sort of angled to the right, a step slower as if bracing to get leveled.

That didn’t happen. Brady had a touchdown while there was a lot of hooting and hollering from both sides of the line of scrimmage.

And as the players either celebrated or stared at the ground depending on what side of the ball they played on, Brady demonstrated how pleased he was with himself by spinning the football on the ground for an exclamation point.

Trust Joe, in those red zone and goal-line series, there are a lot of large egos filling the humid air. Pride is on the line. Bragging rights. For example, when Ronald Jones got stuffed trying to run to the left, the defense celebrated like it just won a game.

It would be great to have a reason to stay sober for the whole season.

Too bad that play didn’t get snuck out on social media, it might allow the Bucs to make a fake out of it. A pitch, maybe.

  10. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Let’s be honest with ourselves. The entire season rests on keeping Brady upright. I don’t want to see him run at all, unless it’s a very, very short yardage QB sneak.
