“They Are Building Something Special Here”

Most veterans in the sunset of their careers want to go to a new team for two reasons:

They want to play

They want a ring.

While new Bucs running back LeSean “Shady” McCoy may already have a ring that he won last year with the Chiefs, he seems he wants a second. In a Zoom conference call with the Tampa Bay pen and mic club this afternoon, Shady all but said he is willing to sacrifice snaps if it means a ring at the end.

He was asked if he would be good with 15 touches a game or even 15 snaps. His response was, whatever it takes to win.

“I can only control what I can control,” Shady said. “If it is five carries or seven carries, whatever it is, I am going to give my best effort, 100 percent.

“I can’t really complain. I had zero touchdowns and zero carries in the Super Bowl [last February]. I came here to help out and be part of it. They are building something special here. I truly believe that. Any way possible, I want to help out and contribute.”

Shady raved about the talent he saw on the Bucs’ practice field today. He noted combining the nice weather in Florida with the chance to play with Tom Brady and a loaded Bucs offense, “How do you beat that?”

I hope he has something left in the tank, he was a healthy scratch for the superbowl game

  2. gp Says:

You left one out that seems particularly pertinent to Tampa

    Retirement!

    That being said, I don’t think that’s Shady’s motive

  3. stpetebucsfan Says:

Shady will be looking at Brady for inspiration as well as leadership. I mean in terms of showing how much can be accomplished at the end of one’s career and how long that career can be productive.

I think seeing a 43 year old QB doing it everyday will rejuvenate Shady.

  4. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Dang Shady! Well said. i hope that Dude’s attitude is more infectious than….well you all know.

  5. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Remember that infamous video with Warren Sapp after he signed with the Raiders……Sapp said “Collect the check”……………………lol

  6. PSL Bob Says:

“building something special here.” Keep in mind, he’s coming from Kansas City. If he’s impressed with the talent, should make all of us Bucs fans feel DAMN good!

  7. Syl Says:

Building something special with a 43 year old QB. This is a money grab that will end in the most Tampa Bay way.

  8. Bucsfanman Says:

Yeah Anthem. Except $1 million for one year is a far cry from $36 million for seven years in 2004.
    Just sayin’!

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

Didn’t we say the same for Suh?! A “money grab”? He just took the money and ran!
Oh, wait, he’s still here….and produced!

  10. SB Says:

Sounds like a textbook answer. I have a feeling it isn’t tho.
    Let’s hope I am right!

  11. SB Says:

Just an observation but to ALL of you Naysayers………Get on board or GTFOH!
Some of us have been doing this for 45 years!

    ……………

I just screenshot this to throw it in your face at the end of the season.
    Just so you know

  13. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

McCoy looks soft – Did he gain weight since last season?

  14. Joe in Michigan Says:

McCoy is saying all of the right things. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, until he does something to make me think otherwise. I remember as a kid, Dennis Johnson was an NBA star, but got traded a few times because they said he was a malcontent. He went to the Celtics and did great things. I see similarities with Shady’s career and DJ’s.

  15. Allbuccedup Says:

I wouldn’t say building something special. Its already built you need to win now. I am glad to see his enthusiasm though we need a lot more of that.
