“They Always Had The Interest Level In Me”

LeSean McCoy at his first official Bucs workout

UPDATED 2:07 p.m. – It seems the Bucs have been pursuing LeSean McCoy for a long time.

This should silence the loud crowd that has questioned why the Bucs would pursue a free agent running back after drafting two and developing Ronald Jones.

McCoy held a virtual news conference this afternoon with Joe and assorted Bucs media.

“They always had an interest level in me; they contacted my agent a couple of times,” McCoy said when asked about how he landed with the Bucs. “I mean, it’s all about the right timing. So I was waiting to see what’s going on. … But it just clicked at the right time, enough waiting, let’s do it. Let’s get in there with the team, learn the offense.”

The 32-year-old future Hall of Famer named the Eagles as one of two teams interested in him this offseason.

Joe followed up to ask if the Bucs’ interest dated back to the start of free agency, and McCoy shut down that line of questioning, sort of saying it doesn’t matter now.

In June, McCoy was talking on national radio about a potential reunion with the Eagles and he said another team (unnamed) was interested in him. It seems that team was/is the Bucs.

Joe’s just glad McCoy is here — even if Bucco Bruce Arians said three days prior to McCoy’s signing that there would be no adjustments made to the running back position.

Hopefully he’s willing the coach up the young guys.
Hopefully the young guys are willing to be coached.

I wonder why Joe is taking Arians so seriously what was he supposed to say.

This is coach speak all coaches do it they don’t want to just dump everything they are doing/moves they are making to the media.

“No adjustments” may include ongoing interest in McCoy.

    Agreed!
Why change what was already in progress

  5. Bradley Says:

Future HOF? I know he had nice stats, but is everyone getting in the HOF? I mean John Lynch can’t get in and Ronde Barber can’t make the final cut. Simeon Rice can’t sniff the HOF. Do you really think people are excited because you call him future HOF?

Shady has already said the job is ROjO’s, and he is here to help the team win a championship and this time be a contributor. I wonder if they may have pursued him last year when he was a FA and signed with KC

  7. JimmyJack Says:

LeSean McCoy is a future HOFer? That dont sit well with me but I disagree with many of the names that get in anyways. Watered down IMO.

  8. Doctor Stroud Says:

Which is louder: the crowd wanting a RB or the Mike Glennon Mob?

It’s great to finally have a McCoy on the team that’s not a kimono wearing panzee.
