Stunned Just Like Bucs Fans

August 17th, 2020

Surprised at offseason moves.

Be honest with yourself: before the free agency dinner bell began ringing six months ago, would you have believed this Bucs roster on offense?

The offense would be led by park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring quarterback Tom Brady and foot-rubbing Rob Gronkowski would be a starting tight end, and Shady McCoy would be a running back after the Bucs would draft arguably the most athletic, strong tackle in college football, Tristan Wirfs.

Then, you add returning starters Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and O.J. Howard, and Cam Brate. This, on paper, is damn near an offense for the ages (Joe isn’t quite ready to anoint Ronald Jones as the next Marshall Faulk).

Who could have seen this in early March?

Certainly not Godwin. Recently, Godwin did an interview with CBS and host Nate Burleson started rattling off the talent on the Bucs roster. Even Godwin shook his head.

“I don’t think anybody could have predicted this,” Godwin smiled. “I know throughout the offseason, I watched (Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht) and what were the odds that we would really get Tom [Brady]? You know what I’m saying?

“Then we get him and it’s like, ‘Oh wow. We’re really here now.'”

If fans are allowed in games (we still don’t know about the Den of Depression), Godwin thinks the stadium on Dale Mabry Highway will be like SeaWorld. Why? Because Bucs fans close to the field are going to get wet and it would have nothing to do with the early-season daily downpours.

Godwin expects the loaded Bucs offense to make a lot of splash plays.

See a clip of the interview in the video below. If the Bucs can get on the same page with Brady in this abbreviated offseason, Joe believes the sparks will fly.

Lot of mouths to feed. As long as the players gel and stay together this should be one of the greatest offenses ever!

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Superbowl, baby!

It really come down to short and long term planning. Arians, Brady, Gronk…those are all short term plans. Win now.

We don’t have a long term plan yet, though we have some good pieces.

When Brady and Gronk come off the books in a year or two, it will free up a bunch of cap. So will Suh, JPP, and David.

The problem is that we need to draft extremely well to replace them, or sign top players, for there to be a long term.

Aaron Rodgers will hit the street in a year or two. He’s up there in age and not much younger than Brady, so he would also be a short term deal.

And Arians will retire when Brady leaves. This run is his last hurrah. Who will replace him? The choice will be important if we want to avoid another decade of losing.

Regardless, this year is our year. We’re going all the way so long as Brady stays healthy. First team with homefield advantage in the superbowl!

    That stadium would’ve been rocking.

    “History repeats itself

Tampa bay Bucs have never had success with free agent QBs

However the Bucs franchise has repeated drafted superbowl winning QBs

Over and over and over again, the buffoon 0-16 Buccaneers franchise have historically drafted superbowl winning QBs

Brees goes down and the formerly drafted Bucs Qb wins the 2020 superbowl

    History repeats itself”

Like it or not Licht has achieved world class GM potential since hiring BA. They’ve kept all the high powered players that fit the system. Added really strong free agents the last two years. Coached the players we have to better results. Changed the culture. And drastically raised expectations!

    Damn…this is fun!

    In BA I Trust!

uhhhhhhhhhhhh this is a troll job right?

Granted we have the sorriest QB history in the NFL.

Shut up, idiot. The team has never had success with a free agent QB… Brad Johnson, free agent signing in 2001, won Super Bowl in 2002, selected to Pro Bowl. Jeff Garcia, free agent signing in 2007, two winning seasons, one Pro Bowl, 14-10 record, 92 rating, one division crown in two total seasons.

You never fail to show your stupidity. Ronald Jones owns you but he’d like to get rid of you but can’t find any takers.

Yes we are “all in” for this year and next. Yes I want to see the Lombardi installed in One Buc Place again (I don’t care what they have renamed it.)

What I don’t want to see is us win the big one and then fall off the map for another twelve years, let alone twenty. There is no reason we cant become perennial contenders for years to come with the core of talent we have to build upon. I hope and pray that the Glazers and JL have a longer term plan to make that happen.

I second what you said, Bonzai Buccaneer.

  9. ben Says:

Licht is the worst gm in bucs history looking at the record. The bucs let the 1st pick in the draft walk. If this team becomes a winner it will be because of getting free agents that have proven themselves and better coaching.

  10. Youngbucs Says:

I love the we don’t have a long term plan crowd 😂. Y’all work at 1 buc y’all in the know???? Of course the Bucs are looking and scouting young QBs all teams do their diligence y’all so dramatic and over the top chill.

  11. Eddie Says:

    Joe Buc your a loser.

  12. Oneilbucs Says:

Bonzai I have been saying this the moment we brought in all these old guys . It’s good for right now that’s why we have to win a Superbowl . That’s why I have decided to just watch this year and maybe next year because Brady contract is a optional year for 2021 if balls and show no signs of his arm going out he will be back but if he does he won’t be back . So that’s why I say we shouldn’t let him throw 45 times a game . We have to be able to run the ball . But we have a fan base that believes we don’t need a good running game even though ever quarterback and team need one . The Saints didn’t start back winning until they got Kamara in the back field . Even Brees couldn’t win without a running game .

  13. Oneilbucs Says:

The future looks dem to me but I’m going to wait and see what happens . But with this Pandemic and a lot of colleges is not playing football it’s going to be more missed players than ever in the draft . So we know that we ain’t getting Lawrence out of Clemson . The next quarterback will be the Ohio State quarterback . Then who can we bring in in the first round . It will have to be a all defensive draft .
