Joe understands how people get in a rut with these analogies.
Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians has an affinity for Scotty Miller, the little guy from a little school in the MAC, Bowling Green. So far in the two summers Arians and Miller have been together, Arians talks up Miller (most of the time) like he’s Lance Alworth.
Miller is quick. So some try to label him a slot receiver (for a guy of Miller’s background — ahem — those are charged words) which is off-target, Arians detailed.
Folks, especially since park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring Tom Brady came to town, are trying to compare Miller with Julian Edelman, Brady’s favorite target in New England. We already know Miller told Joe he doesn’t approve of that comparison.
As Arians explained, Miller is a burner, not a possession guy. Edelman is just the opposite, a guy who doesn’t have overly quick wheels.
“What has stood out about [Miller] is he’s put on some weight,” Arians said. “He’s gotten stronger [and] his speed is showing up every single day.
“He’s not Edelman because he’s real fast. He plays in the slot some, he plays outside more. Julian’s pretty much a slot guy and we don’t put guys in just one position. Chris Godwin normally plays in there and we’re not taking those catches away from him.”
Short of Godwin getting hurt, please Arians, do not monkey with Godwin by pulling out of the slot position (much). It was your brainstorm that found Godwin at slot last year and it was a brilliant move. Don’t fix something that is not broken!
Though the two have worked together a short time, it seems as if Brady and Miller have already developed a rapport. This will be something interesting to monitor for Joe in the coming weeks.

It feels like guys like Welker, Edelman, Amendola, Humphries and now Miller all have something in common that makes people want to compare them to each other. I just can’t seem to put my finger on it though. Hmmmmmm.

The white on white comparisons are so simplistic and cliche.
Ask Christian MCaffery if he ever experienced discrimination because of his lower melanin levels.

A better comparison for Miller is DeSean Jackson. They’re both burners who can take the top off of defenses. Miller just needs to stay healthy and show some consistency before the comparisons to Jackson become common place.

Our receiving talent is embarrassingly good on paper and if O.J. and even one other receiver become relevant, we are going to be an offensive juggernaut. I’m like a little kid waiting for Christmas and my patience for the season to start is just about shot. 😜

Godwin will get the edelman throws. When Mike Evans will get the vintage Randy Moss throws. OJ and Gronk will get the Gronk throws. And all of them are fierce blockers downfield too. Tom will feel very much at home with these targets

I’ve always compared Miller to DeSean Jackson as his type of player while the world class dunder heads compare him to Welker or Edelman or Amendola. Its actually sickening. They also compare Justin Watson to those guys. How lazy! Watson reminds me of Keyshawn minus the world class hands. Tough, will block, good size, decent field speed but struggles to get separation.
