Bucs Offense: “11 Guys That Stunk”

August 30th, 2020

Tossed (for a brief time).

In the last open-to-media practice of Bucs training camp/preseason, the defense must have been tired of reading all about park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring quarterback Tom Brady and his excellent receivers.

The defense came to play today and got several breakups and picks of Brady.

It led Arians to grumble that the offense looked like “11 guys that stunk.”

More about the defense in a bit. But this is about the offense and not being smart. Arians made no secret he thought the offense seemed to think all it had to do was show up today and plays would be made. Arians believed his offense just didn’t play smart.

Actually, they played dumb at times, Arians said.

During goal-line drills, right guard Alex Cappa had a false start and Arians ran him off the field (though he returned when the first-team offense had its next series).

In a perverted way, Arians seemed slightly amused by Cappa’s head-up-his-read-end stunt.

“Yeah!” Arians scoffed when Joe asked him if Cappa’s brief stint in the penalty box was due to a dumb play.

“That was the dumbest one of all.”

Arians explained the Bucs were going to suse a hard count and that his players should know when the snap is. And Cappa still jumped.

“We just stood there and said we were going to use a hard count,” explained Arians, trying to hold back a laugh. “We always use a hard count coming off the one. That just showed where their minds were on offense.

“‘Cap’ is usually very dependable.”

Arians added that the team has had very few penalties overall.

Joe can understand why Arians put so much heat on Cappa for that move. The Bucs led the NFL in penalties last year and were fifth in the NFL in false starts.

Nothing drags down or kills a drive easier than knucklehead penalties. So Joe is sure Arians and company are really stressing discipline this summer.

D is always ahead of the O early on, especially this short pre-season. The fact the O is competitive with what could be a special D speaks volumes for the O.

Hat tip to Arians for running Cappa off for goal line dumbassery. Well played.

Joe: Not nitpicking just curious Isn’t Cappa the right guard or have the Bucs started moving Marpet around again? Is Marpet on the right side now to help shore up Wirfs if needed?

    Thanks

The stupid penalty is a Buccaneer way of life. THe stupid drive killing penalty is ingrained in the Buccaneer psyche.
That’s why if Brady can transform the Bucs into an efficient offensive machine he will truly be the GOAT, no question.
Bucs have always sucked (except for a few Dungy/Gruden years and one Club Raheem year)….and they may even be cursed.
Again….making the Bucs into winners is akin to colonizing Mars

At the end of the year I’ll be curious to see how many penalties Wirfs has vs what Dotson usually had.

Just sounds like the offense is emulating their head coach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The sheep are in for massive disappointment this year!!!!!!!!! The only question is, will they hold those ACCOUNTABLE or buy in too all of those excuses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not with the Bucs this summer.

    Isn’t Cappa the right guard

    Yes, Cappa is right guard.

I wonder if the thought ever crossed their minds last summer to have really stressed discipline then as well.

Arians is loving this behind the scenes. It helps keep some egos in check. It gives BA some ground to stand on as looks to fine tune the space shuttle offense Brady flying. Thank God the defense stepped up, because the magical mystery tour starts in Naw-lins in just 14 days. This is the first good news about this defense so far in 2020. The offense is going to be fine. (see G O A T and 5 headed Recieving monster plus complimentary running game) But without a defense, they will not even have a chance for the the big dance. GO BUCS!!!!!

It happens – no big deal unless it becomes a trend.

If we could even just cut the penalties by a third ,think of the possibilities!
