Report: Donovan Smith’s 2020 Status
July 28th, 2020It was the biggest question on Bucs fans’ minds.
What was left tackle Donovan Smith going to do? The anchor of the Bucs’ offensive line took to Instagram earlier this summer to vent frustration and bare his soul because he didn’t know if he wanted to practice much less play for the Bucs in the middle of a pandemic.
Smith memorably posted on Instagram that he is “not a lab rat.”
So Bucs fans wanted to know, if Smith reports will he stay with the Bucs or opt-out? A possible answer was offered up to Jeremy Fowler of BSPN today.
Despite Donovan Smith stating earlier this month that playing the season doesn’t seem worth the, the Bucs expect their starting LT to report to camp, per source. ‘He’s coming,’ the source said.

Joe will remind fans that reporting to camp does not mean Smith won’t or cannot opt-out.
If he decides to stay, sooner or later he will do a Zoom chat with the local pen and mic club and share his plans.

I just hope his heart reports to camp among with the rest of his body.

Not my favourite player, but we need him and he si durable…..

He will likely play……good idea for his wife to suggest that he isolate in an apartment…..self quarantined for the season…..and make sure the checks are direct-deposited in their joint account.

Anyone know what happens if a player shows up and decides to play the season AND LATER the NFL decides to pull the plug on things? Does said player get paid his regular full salary since he agreed to play the season (but the league decided to pause/end things)?

Idk to many people who would turn down 16 mil
July 28th, 2020 at 2:59 pm
here’s another head-scratcher, TOTL. If a player ‘opts-out’, does he still get a Super Bowl ring if his team goes all the way?
July 28th, 2020 at 3:12 pm
Meanwhile we are lucky that so far DS is the only player thinking of opting out.
TB12 is lucky he left the Pats that’s for sure!!!!
Patriots rocked as six players opt out over virus fear.
The wave of opt-outs included Dont’a Hightower and Patrick Chung, two three-time Super Bowl champions who have been pillars of the Patriots defense for several years.
Running back Brandon Bolden, offensive tackle Marcus Cannon, fullback Danny Vitale and reserve offensive lineman Najee Toran have also opted out.
As if the AFC wasn’t easy enough already!

Five Patriots have already opted out! Guess Belicheat may have to tank.

“Idk to many people who would turn down 16 mil”
Which begs the question…how many people do you know worth 30-40 million.
At least two of those Patriots have already earned that much.
I mean from my perspective…if you’ve earned a million or more you should be set for life if you have half a brain and don’t go bling crazy. Life and death decisions can make those $$$ pale pretty quickly…especially when it’s family.
Of those Pats one has a newborn…another has a diabetic in the family.

“For how long?
Dope Smith is going to find the quickest way out from the team asap
It’s not matter of if but when”

stpetebucsfan a million would set you for life 40 years ago. But I wouldn’t turn it down today anyways.

Much ado about nothing.
I figured as much. The Bucs should give him time off though, just until the baby is born.
July 28th, 2020 at 4:23 pm
I thought so. As stated previously, no chance he was passing on the money. This was always about posturing for the players to receive max pay during uncertain times.

TBBucsFan,
Loved the comment about the joint checking account! XD .. >;-)

I’m considering the season DOA. If we have one that’s just a bonus for me. I thought we had a chance until the Marlins fiasco.

“It was the biggest question on Bucs fans’ minds.” Sure, a question talked about.
Biggest question (other than “will there be a season?”) Bucs fans minds I think is who will be allowed to attend games this year…with the “how” and “when” that goes with it. And without a doubt, season ticket holders literally have “skin” in the game.

I could live a modest lifestyle on the interest from that million dollars and never touch the principle. Not saying it wouldn’t take discipline, but could definitely be done.

What I see coming depends on when the DNA-altering vaccine becomes available. Those who receive will have all of the privileges of citizenship. They will be allowed to take the mask off and sit side-by-side at games.
Those who refuse will be made pariah. They will not be allowed to buy, sell, or attend games. They will be forced to wear the mask as if it is a yellow star of David.

@Bush’s Coke Spoon,
Almost agree with you 100%. But its Clinton’s Coke Spoon that got this “Ball” rolling.
The Final Trump Pence may still be 4 years off however.

These players make so much money that they lose touch with reality. For 16 million dollars. I will drive to Miami with the windows down at noon. Go to there busiest hospital. And go French kiss every covid patient in the hospital. The. I would go in to the middle of the Everglades far from anyone and live for 21 days to make sure I am covid clear before returning home to my family. All he has to do is rent an apartment for 6 months and be away from his family to make 2.75 million for each month he is gone. Boo hoo you when the lottery to not see your family in person for 6 months. I bet 90% of Americans would take that deal right now. Hard to feel sorry for that guy when I have to go to my job at a rehab facility to make less in a year than he does in a day. He makes $45k a day and I’m suppose to feel sorry for him. No way try doing my job where I am in and out of 10 different hospitals weekly. And he makes more in a day than if do in a YEAR. I would gladly be a lab rat and let them injection me with covid 19 right now for 16 million. And if I don’t get it from that shot. I would let them keep injecting me with it until I get it. And I will FaceTime my wife and son every night and tell them I will se them in 14 or so days I soon as I test negative three times. But daddy will be coming home with 16 million and we can retire and enjoy life. And spend every day together
July 28th, 2020 at 10:38 pm
Right now if the government put out that they need 1 million people to be a lab rat. And get injected with covid for 16 million dollars. They would have to close the site after 5 minutes. Because they already got the 1 million lab rat people they needed. People would probably start killing people on the lists in hopes that they can take there spot. But donavon I feel for you man. It sucks to be put in such a difficult position.

Interesting perspective
Probably very true
Except the gubmint would never pay that much when they could get the exact same results for a measly 100 K each.
