Bucs Sign A Running Back!

July 30th, 2020

Finally!

It’s getting Shady outside!

The Bucs broke down. The will power gave out. The Bucs finally signed a veteran running back that Joe has been b!tching whining about for far, far, far too long.

And boy, is he a veteran. He’s Shady McCoy.

Yes, the Bucs signed ancient running back LeSean McCoy, reports Adam Schefter of BSPN.

“He’s very excited to play with established vets like Brady and Gronk in trying to win another championship,” McCoy’s agent, oily Drew Rosenhaus told Schefter.

Playing for the Super Bowl-champion Chiefs last year, McCoy, 32, ran for 4.6 yards per carry.

Someone finally heard Joe’s pleas.

Yes, it does have the feel now of a one-year window.

Tells me Ronald Jones II is a BUST.

  2. webster Says:

And mccoy was not active for the superbowl. 460 yards last year. Im sure vaughn could give us 460 yards. I would much rather let jones, vaughn and calais develop but oh well.

  3. Reno Says:

    Hallelujah ! 😉😈

  4. webster Says:

    Drome

This moves does not tell you jones is a bust. What the he11 are you talking about? Well maybe it tells YOU he is a bust but that is a far reach.

  5. BucdUP09 Says:

    Let’s go Shady!

  6. ClodHopper Says:

Shady McCoy. More like Shady Pines retirement home in the room next to Sofia!

  7. Scott Says:

Great addition this is the back I was hoping we would add all along. Mccoy is borderline hof watch his video from last year he is still pretty good and he is the best pass catching back on bucs, been healthy his whole career, low cost can’t go wrong, hopefully we play this year

  8. SausageKingOfChicage Says:

Vet minimum as well. Good idea.

  9. 407buc Says:

WOW we signed an NFL running back.Best RB we have had in a LONG time.

  10. Waterboy Says:

    Old man McCoy!!!

  11. Bucemup Says:

Funny how people will hate on a depth piece. He’s here to be a vet to a young rb room. He’s not in his prime but can add leadership and catch a pass on 3 and 6. I appreciate the Bucs realizing they needed a vet in the room. Go Bucs!

  12. Allbuccedup Says:

Still good out of the backfield!

  13. Stonedbuc Says:

This has Brady all over it. Personnel decision number…..?

Go Bucs I love the move, shady is the type of player that can chip
Block and catch a dump pass. And also smart enough and patient enough to understand hitting holes at an older age ala gore.

  14. Alexander Nascimento Says:

Go Bucs!!! Let’s crack that window wide open!!!

  15. Cobraboy Says:

Solid backfield. Well done, good sighning.

  16. Steven007 Says:

We grabbed him primarily for his past catching skills. Very savvy move. He comes cheap too. I’m sure the decision was made easier since the rookie Vaughn tested positive for covid and his status might be a bit of an unknown.

  17. ClodHopper Says:

We got a player thats old enough to legitimately worry about the sickness now.

  18. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

This is a depth move. I’d be shocked if Shady got anything more than 2-3 carries a game if RoJo and Vaughn stay healthy.

  19. Razor Ramone Says:

Shady can pick up the blitz and catch it out of the backfield.

  20. Gettinthebucs Says:

Whaaaaaaat! Me likey! Good vet with obvious playoff experience. Nice job Licht!

  21. Jerry Jones Says:

Good veteran signing! Having the 22nd All Time Leading Rusher can only help.

  22. Gettinthebucs Says:

A 3rd Ira Podcast is definitely in the works this week!

  23. Tbbucs3 Says:

He was one of the top fantasy back in Buffalo just a year or 2 ago…..RBs tend to fall of quick but he might have 1 more quality season left in the tank.

Great no risk move. Is Licht getting better as a GM? Sure seems that way.

  24. gp Says:

    Always hopeful but…
4.6 -vs- 4.2, that’s roughly a shoe print for most NFL players
Pass catching 82% -vs- 77% is a plus
Very hard for me to call someone more than 20 years younger than me an old man. On the other hand, I haven’t spent the past ten plus years getting beat up by 250lb men.
One year prove it deal I assume?

  25. DoooshLaRue Says:

Not a huge fan of his but ok, it’s a solid move for a good price.

  26. ClodHopper Says:

The last time this guy was good the internet was only available on computers and blackberries.

  27. 941bucsfan Says:

ROJO TRASH. I been saying it, but all anyone talks about is his runs that got “called back” 😂😂😂😂😂

  28. BigHog Says:

Another has been, would have rather seen ROJO Calias and Vaughn develop together !!! SHADY used to be pretty good tho!!

  29. gotbbucs Says:

There, a name Joe recognizes, and a running back ta boot.

Revermind the fact that he’s washed up. If its for anymore than the veteran league minimum its a bad deal.

I dont think he carried the ball once in the postseason.

Dumb Joe just went from 6:00 to 12:00 midnight.

  30. Rayjay1122 Says:

We get it clodhopper, you do nor like shady because he is getting old in RB terms but he is a Buc now so perhaps if we are fans we should pull for him instead of poking fun of his age? Just maybe?

  31. gotbbucs Says:

…and for the record, I don’t think Ronald Jones is worth a pinch of dried sh!t, but Shady McCoy is done.

  32. Darin Says:

    Booooooooooo.

  33. Allbuccedup Says:

Joe my gut tells me that Smith is going to opt out. I am wondering if this is just a start signing Mccoy and Licht knows it next signing left tackle probably Monday or tuesday.

  34. Rayjay1122 Says:

40% of Bucs “fans” are by far the worst “fans” of all NFL cities. To that 40% congrats for being so consistent.

  35. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Well, there goes DARE….likely….captain of the ST squad……McCoy surely doesn’t play ST…..

  36. Allbuccedup Says:

Rayjay1122 the bucs fans are not 40% worst fans in the NFL but I would agree maybe 25%.

Joe my gut tells me that Smith is going to opt out. I am wondering if this is just a start signing Mccoy and Licht knows it next signing left tackle probably Monday or tuesday.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN tweeted two days ago that Donovan Smith is coming into camp and is not opting out right now. Whether he changes his mind is another thing but it appears right now that he is playing.

  38. Joe Says:

Joe my gut tells me that Smith is going to opt out. I am wondering if this is just a start signing Mccoy and Licht knows it next signing left tackle probably Monday or tuesday.

Can’t go there. That seems to be a huge leap: Licht signed McCoy because Donovan Smith will bag it. Not saying Smith will play, but the McCoy signing doesn’t seem to be a sign of some sort for Smith.

If anything if Licht knew Smith would sit out, he’d have saved the cash he spent on McCoy to trade for a tackle.

  39. ClodHopper Says:

    Ray jay

Actually I don’t mind the signing at all. It’s not he’s going to get 25 carries a game. Just thought it was funny. I’m sorry about the cob in your butt.

  40. Allbuccedup Says:

But Joe Mccoy is chump change there is no free agent left tackle worth 4 or 5 mil if Smith opts. Licht has plenty of money just saying.

  41. Allbuccedup Says:

Joe no team is going to trade a starting left tackle to the Bucs.

  42. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

This is a covid-19 signing. Rojo will still start. Teams are stacking up because key players are going to be out for 2-3 weeks when they get the virus.

  43. SB Says:

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS!!!!!
Nobody wants TB12 protected this yr. Nobody other than us that is.

  44. stpetebucsfan Says:

    BigHog

I hear you and the guys who wish ROJO and Vaughn and Calais had been given a chance.

On one hand that really makes sense this year because I do fear in a no prep season Coaches just gravitate to the experience. Not sure ROJO, Vaughn or Calais will get a shot.

In normal years I would totally applaud this move because our three young guys could always outplay Shady in training camp if they truly deserve the reps. With no training camp though I feel sorry for the young dudes. I guess they’ll have to shine in their limited time during the week of practice.

To get a replacement for Smith, if we have to, we will have to go to the discard pile. BUT, not necessarily for a left tackle. There would probably be some shuffling going on.

  46. JimbobBucsFan Says:

It’s good to have an “old” vet in the RB room with all of the young ones.

Sometimes Licht and/or Arians are going to try our patience as fans. We just have to have a little more faith in them than we might want to.

    In BA I Trust.

  47. ©MadMax Says:

Well, i didnt see this coming, been out of touch a while anyway, but I like it! Nice move!!

  48. SB Says:

Nice to see you back Max

  49. Buczilla Says:

About gosh damn time! Not the guy that I wanted (Freeman), but McCoy has instantly become our best running back until proven otherwise. Good going Licht.

  50. JimmyJack Says:

Much better competition at RB now. McCoy can catch out of the backfield too……Nobody else can except Dare. That fact alone makes it an upgrade. This move could pay of bigtime if McCoy finds a little extra juice running with Brady.

    GO BUCS!!

  51. Oneilbucs Says:

Another old guy lol lol this franchise future is done bro this is a 1 year window with a pandemic going on . I told yall I think Bruce Arians is leaving next year . So when do the rebuild begin because I can’t wait . This time we have to build the defense first please . We can get back to our real identity running the ball and defense .

  52. JimmyJack Says:

RayJay1122……Which 40% are you talking about? The ones who post here? The ones that been posting here for years?……Oh right, them fans that have been sticking with this team through 2 decades of futility…….an endless string of 3-5 win seasons………Done by Halloween blowout by halftime……..Not a winning record at home in over a decade……..Yep and here they are still rooting for the Bucs……..Good point they are the worst.

  53. Oneilbucs Says:

And less tell the truth about one thing . No other team wanted Brady but us .

  54. JimmyJack Says:

Oniel……Not sure what your are talking about but we did rebuild the defense last year. Total rebuild as a matter of fact. Entirely new system and we ran off our 2 old leaders and brought in new. You should know this.

  55. Joe Says:

We got a player thats old enough to legitimately worry about the sickness now.

    Brady is 11 years older.

  56. adam from ny Says:

    brady worked out rojo…

and said get mccoy in here to help me out…

    excellent move…

mccoy will be the brady of the running back room as well…

those young guns need an old vet to learn from…

most of them don’t know what it is to be a pro yet…

and if i’m correct he will smack the sheet out of them as well if they get out of line…

    just ask his ex

  57. ItzOK Says:

Itz Fine I doubt Shady will even make the team. He is washed up.

  58. Bucsfanman Says:

    These comments are funny.
Put simply, it’s a no-risk signing that gives the Bucs a veteran pass-catching RB and adds depth to the team. It is very likely that whoever starts will miss time due to injuries, or whatever.
Did you really want your depth to be Rojo, Vaughn a rookie, Dare, and a 7th rd pick?! Dare?!
Yeah, I’ll take 32 year old McCoy over Dare every day and twice on Sunday.
    Savvy move.

  59. Oneilbucs Says:

Jimmyjack the only thing we did on defense is bring in a bunch of DB’s and 1 linebacker. Building a good defense starts with the Defensive line first. Now that we have a old quarterback instead of drafting a defensive lineman or a defensive end they are going to get a quarterback . That’s why I hate we got rid of Jamies . This is why to me the quarterback position is the most overrated in the NFL . All it does is set teams back because of this false narrative by the NFL and national media .

  60. JimmyJack Says:

O’Neil I was talking defensive rebuild. You just off the rails talking about QB…….I was talking D. Nothing to do about QB.

  61. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This says. Othing about Rojo. McCoy is washed up. At best he’ll be a #3

  62. Oneilbucs Says:

Jimmyjack I was talking about defense what are talking about? I was showing you how a old quarterback can effect the building of the defense . That was the last meaning of the stamen.

  63. JimmyJack Says:

O’Neil. I was just trying to stay simple. Just said they rebuilt the defense. Just seems like a obvisous statement….they ran off the two captains, completely rebid the secondary and made a drastic change to 3-4 base…….I dont know, maybe you disagree. What do you call it a reconfiguration?

  64. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

In a normal off season I’d probably say ‘meh’ to signing an older RB who has been injury prone, BUT in this crazy off season and seeing the team go all-in I’m actually very pleased they got Shady. I still think RoJo will be the stallion in the Bucs’ RB stable, but Shady can help mentor the two rookie RB’s added in the draft, as well as still have a contributing on-field role as another weapon for “America’s Real QB”…Tom Brady. Well until Shady inevitably pulls a hamstring, tweaks a knee, or suffers a season ending toe injury. 🙂 I’m just hopeful he’s healthy long enough to help give Vaughan (and possibly Calais?) time to adjust to the NFL speed of the game with the shortened practice reps this season. That in itself will be worth the money.
