“Brady Takes Care Of Himself”

July 2nd, 2020

Not only is Tom Brady fearless, not only does he want you to be fearless, a longtime Brady rival has no fear of Brady keeping his jersey clean in Tampa.

The sentiment isn’t about the greatness of Ryan Jensen or the consistency of Donovan Smith, or the punishing and reliable Buccaneers running game. Former Bills and Jets head coach Rex Ryan says Brady will stay safe in the Tampa Bay pocket because he “takes care of himself.”

Ryan weighed in this week on “Get Up,” the ESPN show Joe likes to call “Stay In Bed.”

“He can throw the ball on-time and in rhythm faster than any quarterback in this league,” Ryan told the nation.

“Jameis Winston had a tendency to hold the ball too long in my opinion and not protect the ball in the pocket. Brady’s phenomenal at protecting the ball in the pocket, and he’ll protect himself in the pocket with his quick release and his timing and accuracy.”

Former Pro Bowl safety Ryan Clark agreed with Ryan saying he’s not worried about Brady taking a beating. For Clark, it’s all about Brady’s pre-snap reads and the Bucs offense being a nightmare matchup for defenses. “Taking the right play, making the right call, making the right check, sliding protection the way that you need to,” that’s Brady, Clark explained.

Retired defensive lineman Marcus Spears said Brady will continue to be vulnerable where he always has been — from pressure up the gut.

Stay safe, Tom!

    ……….dreams……dreams…..dreams….

Here’s to hoping all Bucs fans will see this every Sunday

  2. Allbuccedup Says:

Let’s hope so because of he gets hurt the seasons over.

  3. Lamarcus Says:

Also because JW was bigger, stronger, faster, etc. to afford to hold the ball longer by design. While Brady NEEDS that ball out quicker…by design and that needs to emphasize

  4. Cobraboy Says:

I lost count of how many times I yelled at Winston “THROW THE DAMN BALL! THROW THE DAMN BALL!”

You left out “a lot dumber.”

The main difference between Winston and Brady is between the ears.

Jamarcus Russell was bigger, faster and stronger than Jameis Christ, and look what good that did him.

  6. Sport Says:

Yep – more confirmation our oline will have multiple pro bowlers because Brady is on the field. Can’t wait to hear the oline bashers see the improvement with only one lineman change – Wirfs for Dot.

And for anyone whining about depth, show me the team that is poised to win if there top players get hurt. I’ll wait…. And don’t forget Fitzy achieved similar, if not better, results than our first overall pick QB.

    In BA I Trust!

  7. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Are we really going there now???

    Jamarcus Russell??????

one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history^^^^^^^^^

I may not care for Jameis Winston as a Buc…….but he’s far from being a bust

  8. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Sport

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!

    * Donovan Smith is still the “Human turnstile” until he proves otherwise

    * Alex Cappa is still a work in progress

    * Demar Dotson should’ve retired two years ago

    * Ryan Jensen was very inconsistent last year

…………the only consistent player we had on the O-Line last year was Ali Marpet and he didn’t play all that well last year either

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO………………………I dunno where you get that all of a sudden the Bucs O-Line are filled with ProBowlers now

  9. Craig Says:

Last years line was actually really good at containing the rush for the first three or four seconds. That is all Brady will need to make a decision and get the ball to the right place, especially with the receiver corps he has this season.

Cobraboy: We have enough fundamental differences that I am not going to invite you for a beer, but I agree. At least for as far as you went. The second half of that exclamation is Not there, not there.

  10. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

    I’m with Sport.

People love to hold on to the past.

TB12 is the missing link. He will even get our secondary sharper and eager to do better than before.

  11. Joe in Michigan Says:

TheBucsAnthem: Donovan Smith improved last year. He may not have looked great because the Bucs QB held on the the ball forever and had little feel for the pass rush. The stats are that Smith gave up 5 sacks last year. Is that a “human turnstile”?

  12. Eddie Says:

Let the games begin gentleman. Let’s hope Brady still has it, Winston is still a work in progress. Once Winston find tunes his game he’ll be fine.

  13. D-Rome Says:

I may not care for Jameis Winston as a Buc…….but he’s far from being a bust

A #1 overall pick that plays through his rookie deal, gets the one year extenstion, and then isn’t signed long term by the team that drafted him is by definition a bust. The fact that this happened to him and he ended up being a backup to Drew Brees and Taysom Hill cements his bust status. He’s no Jamarcus Russell but he’s a bust.

  14. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ D-Rome

I’m not Jameis Winston apologists…..people know this about me….but….YOU BETTER CHECK YO SHEETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“- Jameis Winston: 5,109 passing yards and 33 touchdown passes (single season)

As noted above. The previous records also belonged to Winston, who threw for 4,090 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2016. Remarkably, Winston destroyed the old yardage record by more than 1,000 yards, adding nearly 25% to the previous mark. In contrast, when Winston first set the record three years early, his final total was only 35 yards more than the previous record of 4,065, set by Josh Freeman in 2012. And when Freeman broke the record it was only 254 more yards than the standing record of 3,811, posted by Brad Johnson in 2003.

By the way, Winston also set single-season Buc records for pass attempts (626), completions (389) and 300-yard passing games (11). That last record nearly doubled his own mark of six from the 2017 campaign. Winston also led the NFL with 30 interceptions but that did not set a new (unwanted) Buccaneers record, as Vinny Testaverde was picked off 35 times in 1988.”

  15. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

A player that has put together this body of work in his short stint in the NFL isn’t a bust at all.

Now did he fail living up to his draft status and as a Franchise QB….YES

Would you have considered Vinny Testaverde a bust too???? He played for a long time in the NFL and had a few good seasons with the Jets.

  16. ben Says:

Winston is a total bust as of now .. didnt get 2nd contract and a 3rd string back up after being the number 1 pick ,, Maybe time will change that but as of now …..

  17. ben Says:

Are you kidding when you say .. Winston is not a bust ? ?

  18. gp Says:

Jameis is no longer here, let it go.
Stats wise he is not a bust.
    Franchise wise, he is.
While we can blame his status on the team he was surrounded by, we can also give credit for some of the stats to the same team.
Really, the arguments are getting old, HE’S GONE!

  19. Clean House Says:

Coach BS, advised JW to put on 20 lbs in order to stand in and take more hits-

Sounds like a genius “whisperer” move

Then ditches the guy after he led the NFL in total offense.

  20. stpetebucsfan Says:

I agree with most folks here so let me toss out some food for thought and debate.

Obviously this is just an observation with no proof. JW was VERY proud of being a man’s man. And for all anybody wishes to criticize JW for…courage is last on the list.

JW has major cojones and felt a certain obligation to prove his toughness to the guys. He played hurt when he should not have on more than one occasion and I think he took pride in his toughness. Am I saying he wanted to take hits? Not exactly but taking hits was part of his psyche…he wanted to show that he was bad. And he is one baaad dude. But…28-42

TB12 will not use courage as a point of pride. He will use WINS not toughness to justify his “manhood”. Really he is obsessed and doesn’t care about justifying anything….he just wants to WIN…simple as that.

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

D-Rome, I feel you but…The story is still being written with Jameis. He will come back to haunt us. We gave the kid 4 yrs with no mentor when he came into this league. He was literally thrown into the fire. Arians is suppose to be this great almighty QB whisperer. He gave up on Jameis after one season. I would have kept him one more yr, drafted his replacement by moving up in the 1st rd therefore putting direct pressure on him. So we pay a 43 yr old has been 50 mil for 2 yrs of service? I bet a paycheck he goes down for significant time during those 2 yrs. And in steps all world…Gabbert. I see this as clear as the..Don Julio I sipped on last night.

  22. Hodad Says:

Unlike Jameis, TB will be calling the line protections, Jensen did it last year. Was interesting to see Brady snapping the ball to Jensen in their work out video. That’s Brady protecting himself already. Brady realizes it’s as important that him, and the O line are on the same page, as him and the receivers are. Jameis never mastered the art knowing where the pressure was coming from, and sliding his protection that way. Blocking for Jameis at times was like blocking for a cat on cocaine. You never know how long he’d hold it, or where he might scramble around to.

  23. DanBucsFan Says:

I am a Winston guy, as I am a fsu fan as well as a bucs fan. However there is no debate really as far as who is the better qb. It’s like comparing a bottle of 1947 French Cheval-Blanc to box wine.

  24. Darin Says:

    Thebucsanthem

Do you go back and watch the Olines play after the games? Jensens play last season was far from inconsistent. Since I didn’t watch tape last year I listened to the experts who did. Jensen had a hell of a year. So if he was inconsistent so was every linemen in the league. Was a bit better than Marpet last season actually. Do your homework or it’s hard to listen

  25. Joe in Michigan Says:

Darin: Agreed. Athlon Sports has Jensen rated as the 10th best Center in the NFL, and states “He’s the perfect interior blocker for a high-volume passing game; Jensen has allowed just 2 sacks in 1,524 pass-blocking snaps over the last two seasons”.

  26. Sport Says:

Anthem – Jensen was inconsistent year one, year two he was solid. Marpet does his job, every day. Smith showed more effort this year. Cappa is still learning but is coming along.

Yes, I’m saying Brady will make this line at least two pro bowlers. Most likely Marpet and Jensen.

    For 3 reasons
    1) Brady leading the team with line calls and audibles
    2) Brady firing the ball to the open man quickly
    3) National games and corresponding exposure

Let’s watch NE oline this year without Brady and see how those guys hold up.

Also, did you just spout a bunch of JW 2019 stats in support of him breaking records, but crap all over the oline? ‘Does Not Compute’. 🤖

    In BA I Trust!

  27. brucearians Says:

They keep speaking about Brady managing the pocket and getting the ball out quick. But most of BA’s deep ball attack wont have time to get open, that means CG on slants and the TE’s having to have a bigger role. CG and ME are not getting 25 yards down field in 2 seconds, unless they totally burn the coverage and the safety is headed the wrong way Tom is not lauching a 30 yard pass. BTW , what’s with that hottie at Dolman Law Group ? Makes me want to get in a car accident just to have her take care of my needs (legal needs).

  28. D1 Says:

    brucearians,

Winston was running BA’s offense last season.

BA’s offense last year , +70% of the completions were within 10yds of the LOS.

The avg time to throw stats last season between Brady and Winston is within 2/10ths of a second.

These facts are contrary to the idea that you have proposed.

Which means that there’s nothing much to the idea that Bradys style of play, vs BA’s scheme, is incompatible without one or both sides making concessions.

Brady will simply operate BA’s offense in a more timely and efficient manner than Winston. It should be more than obvious that winston did not execute the offense in a fashion that was acceptable to the coaches. If Winston had done so, he would still be a Buccaneer. He is not!

Which leads me to this, it’s foolish to propose that Brady , to succeed in this scheme, is going to have to play more like the guy who just proved this is how to fail in BA’s scheme.

Or Brady could play like he has over his MVP multiple superbowl winning hall of fame career.

Brady will face the same problems as winston . He will have to hold on to the ball longer just like winston, he will be faced with the same pressure and blitzs as winston, he wont have a running game like winston. How confused does an individual have to be, to even entertain such a steaming pile of Monkey crap?

Speaking of reaking primate feces, “Brady will not throw 30+ yds down the field”! Perhaps, if there was a rationale as to why this is true it wouldn’t smell like a monkey lab after taco Tuesday.
