Big Ups For Front Seven
July 30th, 2020The way one former NFL offensive lineman sees it, the Bucs’ defensive front may be the new Steel Curtain.
Former lineman and current NFL Network and FOX Sports analyst Brian Baldinger made an appearance on NFL Network recently and was asked about the Bucs defense.
Baldinger got so excited he was almost gasping for air pumping up the Bucs defensive linemen and linebackers.
“There are some playmakers there,” Baldinger said. “There is a combination of youth. There is a combination of veterans. And just solid football players and they are all coming back under the tutelage of Todd Bowles.
“I thought the final six weeks of the season, they made as many plays as any front-seven in all of football.”
Baldinger also noted the Bucs had four defensive touchdowns in the final six games last season.
In the clip you will see below, Baldinger highlights a play he believes demonstrates how well the Bucs defense flies to the ball. There were nine defenders around a Dixie Chicks ballcarrier, who fumbled.
Gang tackling. Joe absolutely loves gang tackling. It may be the most underrated element on defense.
Gang tackling. The words hang in Joe’s mouth like “smoked burnt ends” or “cold beer.”
Joe’s old high school coach harped on gang tackling all the time. Every pregame speech. He seemed to hate solo tackles not because someone did his job, but because three or four or five other guys didn’t do theirs.
.@buccaneers sure looked like the front 7 looks championship level in final 6 weeks of 2019; and the names all return lead by #MLB, @DevinWhite__40 @realMichaelRob1 @RhettNFL #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/SCyUJlfdxy

The vaunted Bucs defenses of old used to fly around to the football. That is the mark of a very good if not great defense.
Go Bucs…..so excited about this team now.

Hopefully Brady can get up to speed & build chemistry in the first couple weeks of the season. If that happens, we could be scary good

If the video doesn’t fire you up you’re not a Bucs fan.

@Joe
I’m with you and your coach. Gang tackling is something to get truly excited about. We all ooh and ah when a guy lights someone up…it’s a pretty sight…but repeated gang tackling is not only a more certain way to stop the ball carrier…it is PUNISHING…and when it’s done for four quarters…it’s a wonderful thing.
I love the kind of gang tackling that is relentless, never ending and saps the will out of the opposing offense.
Steel Curtain….I want the Conan the Barbarian defense.
“Conan: To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.”
Ok so maybe I don’t need to hear the lamentations of their women…but I’m down with the rest…CRUSH THEM.

The defense will be the main key of us winning or losing.

We are set to scare opponents on both Offense and Defense! This is the best Bucs Team since our Super Bowl Team and I can’t wait til the Saints game.
