“Big-Play Ray”

July 27th, 2020

Joe’s got a uniquely-good feeling about the Buccaneers’ seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Joe can’t recall a guy selected that late who is flat out steaming with confidence like Raymond Calais is.

It’s refreshing, fun and perhaps it means something. The electric running back from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette shows off some of his unforced confidence in the video below.

Immediately following the draft, Bucco Bruce Arians likened Calais to Pro Bowlers Tarik Cohen and David Johnson. And Joe’s heard nothing but good things about Calais.

Can the small-school, small-stature kid rise up in a hurry as a third-down back and return man? Joe wouldn’t bet on it given the Bucs’ history and no preseason games, but Joe suspects Calais will get a legitimate shot to open eyes at some point during this wacky season.

Calais’ stated goal for this season? Does he just want to make the roster? Nope. It’s 10 touchdowns.

Is he talking about clicking with Tom Brady? Yep. Is he reminding everyone that he was known as “big-play Ray” in college? Yep.

Go get’em, Ray.

Personally I think Keyshawn Vaughn is gonna take over the starting role.
If Calais is as good as some think we will suddenly be deep at the weakest position on our team

The highlight real for Raymond is crazy. He is scary fast, even defenders with a good angle cannot catch this man. Hopefully it can translate to the NFL! If so the Bucs got an explosive playmaker

    Calais = Warrick Dunn

If he does not make it as a 3rd down back, I see him winning the kick or punt returner position.

  4. Dewey Selmon Says:

RC is closer to 7th rounder Michael Smith Utah St. than Warrick Dunn. No preseason do you think they won’t keep Logan around fro a couple weeks? That would put RC on the PS unless the Bucs go with 5 RB’s

  5. Allbuccedup Says:

Miami just released a couple of young edge players bucs need to release Logan and pick up Harris or Moss for depth.

  6. Mike Says:

He’s got speed and he’s got hands. If he can learn his blocking assignments he defiintely will get some reps.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    You just never know…..after all….TB was a 6th round pick……RC could be a winner…..or, not….
How many 7th rounders have we kept for long?……

  8. stpetebucsfan Says:

Wouldn’t it be amazing after Joe’s years long distress at a lack of a running game if we ended up with a three headed monster like the Niners.

  9. firethecannons Says:

there ain’t no reason in God’s world that this guy can’t blow up the NFL. It takes confidence and skill and he has that. He has done it before in college. Bucs need speed and he brings it. Cannot wait to watch it happen!

  10. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Fun begins…….Rookie Ke’Shawn Vaughn is the on the Reserve/Covid-19 list.

  11. Tampabuscsbro Says:

WELL RAY looks like your opportunity is coming sooner then expected due to recent news.

  12. Steven007 Says:

Last few posters beat me to it. Hopefully it’s over with in a couple of weeks and nothing else. Fingers crossed. Also possibly delusional. :/

    @Joe

My guy please tell me the Vaughn covid stuff is fake news😭

  14. mark2001 Says:

Hoax Alabama…hoax…it will disappear any day now. One Buc player today, zero tomorrow. All he has to do is inject bleach or disinfectant, and take sunshine in his body. I have it from unreliable sources that is how it works.

  15. JGhotier Says:

    Ray Mysterio 2.0

  16. Issac haggins Says:

The guy is on the field fast and ultra top end fast for a back his height ,,,, Great Pick ,,,,,,,, Great Pick !!

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Practice Squad size is increased by around 8 Players this year.

  18. Buczilla Says:

With no proven starters on the roster, this kid has a legit shot to make the team. Hell, Leto’s third string running back would even have a chance.

Shut up and play, rook. Zip your lip and put it on the field.
