Davis Among NFL Best?
June 13th, 2020Yes, last year Bucs cornerback Carlton Davis was second in the NFL in passes defensed with 19. And a stat suggests that stat is no fluke.
The PFF tribe has had a lot of time to play with their Excel software. But thankfully, what Joe is citing here is not one of their dumb grades but an actual statistic.
It seems no one forced a higher percentage of incompletions last year than Davis, per the tribe.
Best forced incompletion % among CBs in 2019
1. Carlton Davis – 22%
2. Jaire Alexander/Gareon Conley – 20%
4. Chidobe Awuzie – 19% pic.twitter.com/g7NFwMApfw— PFF (@PFF) June 12, 2020
Joe thought Davis made a lot of progress last year playing under guys who knew how to coach defenders. Cornerbacks trying to be developed by Mike Smith were basically having a blind person teaching other vision-impaired people how to navigate Malfunction Junction during the morning rush hour.
Davis last week in a Zoom conference call with the local pen and mic club said more interceptions will come from the secondary this year.
With numbers like Davis put up, Joe tends to believe him.

Hey my prediction is el butwhole will have a negative take on this article.
Positive thinking will bring positive things to whatever you’re focused on.
That’s a proven fact.

Funny how the PFF and PFR grades were bearly up from 2018 to 2019!!!!!! And throw in the 2018 injury, being a rookie, and that player replacement, not development on the D-line is more of a factor than the supposive better coaching!!!!!!!! Did the supposive better coaching help penalties?????? Did the supposive better coaching equate to a winning season??????? Where is the accountability and the truth???????

So all they need is a soft schedule and to face a bunch of bad backup qb’s like they did in the back end of last season!!!!!!!!!!!!
and for those keeping score!!!!!!!!!!!
Loser Frazier 25.6 Points Allowed per Game (16 games)
Loser Lovie – 26.1 Points Allowed per Game (16 games)
Coach Smitty -24.97 Points Allowed Per Game ( 37 games)
mark duffner – 26.45 Points Allowed Per Game ( 11 games)
toilet bowles – 28.1 Points Allowed Per Game ( 16 games)
Pretty telling stats that the local media and sheep will never say or talk about !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sad how the local media and sheep fell hook, line, and sinker to the “all they need is to be coached up”!!!!!!!! But after 2020 season, the sheep will then will “REALIZES”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2019 revealed answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already knew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we are finally matching skill/talent with the systems being built. I don’t believe Mike Smith forgot how to coach, frankly his staff was nowhere near what Arians is nor was his talent on the d-line. Throw in our best CB prospect was Hargreaves who couldn’t even make this roster and its not hard to connect the dots that the situation was hopeless. I also believe he was put in a tough spot with Grimes because I do believe Licht and Grimes agreed on pay that reflects a CB who plays one side of the field vs a premier shut down CB. Koetter and Smith had to live through both Winston and Licht’s growing pains.
June 13th, 2020 at 8:51 am
@el dipsh!t, lets not get ahead of ourselves with your cherry picking stats. When you subtract the points the the old QB gave the opponents from pick 6’s alone it brings the avg to 25 ppg. That’s not to include the points scored where teams started in field goal range, and TDs scored on a short field.
June 13th, 2020 at 8:54 am
Somebody had a few too many Big Storms already this morning… Supposively.
June 13th, 2020 at 8:55 am
El wacko, go ahead and subtract 2.6pts per game from JW3 pick-6’s alone.
June 13th, 2020 at 9:11 am
As everybody has observed the year experience in Bowles defense combined with their growth and late season success to confirm that growth have clearly given them confidence. They now believe and trust in their skills.
This translates to a SPLIT second difference in trusting and going with your gut and that finest of margins can make simply getting your fingertips on the ball like last year to firmly gripping it for that pick six.

Y’all read that d!psh!ts post? Good for y’all. You’d have used your time more wisely by rearranging your sock drawer or clipping your toe nails.

June 13th, 2020 at 10:02 am
The sheep think that only turnovers and pick ‘s happened last year?????? That the aggressive offense for touchdowns lead to aggressive turnovers with NO Adjustments!!!!!!!! That is bad coaching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The roster has been poor!!!!!!! And the sheep make excuses for the reactionary gm with no plan!!!!!!!!!! This year will end in FAILURE!!!!!! THAT WILL TAKE YEARS TO FIX THE PANIC MOVES OF OLE STALE BISCUIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 13th, 2020 at 10:10 am
We get it, EBR!!!! You don’t like the coaching staff!!!!!!!!
June 13th, 2020 at 10:23 am
@blogtalkfootball
You obviously “don’t get it”!!!!!!!!!! They said all of last year that coaching was the only issue!!!!!!! And then the losing 7-9 season!!!!!!!!! And no accountability from the sheep!!!!!!!!!!! They won the offseason with two over the hill players, and the sheep want to already hold victory parade down dale mabry already!!!!!!!!!!!!
And you accuse the “real” fans of liking and disliking the coaching staff!!!!!!!! You could not be more wrong!!!!!!!!! What we are stating is just the truth!!!!!!!!!! Do you get mad at a themometer when it tells you that the temperature is hot?????? It is just simply the TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!

Crazy to think we went from one of the worst laughing stock pass defense in the league, to having some of the youngest and most talented CBs.
Can’t help but to blame Mike Smith’s coaching and Vernon Hargreaves’ poor play.

@Alabamabucsfan
Tell me which years were “laughing stock” and which year Toilet bowles and the so-called youngest and most talented cb’s??????? I will give you extra time to answer, as most from Alabama have to take off their shoes to “count up big numbers”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2019 opponent passing yds 4322, 30 tds allowed, 12 ints
2018 opponent passing yds 4151, 34 tds allowed, 9 ints
2017 opponent passing yds 4169, 22 tds allowed, 13 ints
2016 opponent passing yds 4012, 24 tds allowed, 17 ints
If the coaching was so called an “improvement” why are the numbers worse, with a healthy roster and softer schedule in 2019??????????
Quick trivia for you!!!!!!! Did you know the “toothbrush” was invented in Alabama?????? Because, if it was invented anywhere else, it would have been named the “TEETHbrush”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARE ALL THE SHEEP BACK IN THE PEN????????????
June 13th, 2020 at 12:12 pm
You have to take away the 6 pick 6s since they are considered against the defense as points allowed, or did you just so happened to forget that.

I will happily take the English class, if you will take a class on ethics, truth and accountability!!!!!!!!! We could even carpool to the university together!!!!!!!!!!!

@bucsfan77
Was 2019 the only year there were turnovers????? Did you forget that???????? Did you forget that the Bucs have been top 5 in offensive turnovers since 2014??????? Did you forget in 2019 when the turnovers were very high, the head coach said “keep throwing”????????? Are you saying that it was a bad coaching decision??????? Did you forget about that????????? Did you forget about the harder schedule in years past then the cupcake schedule they played last year????? Which backup qb do you think they looked the best against????? Gardner Minshew or David Blough?????? Hard to say which one ” that the defense turned the corner” more against!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 13th, 2020 at 1:32 pm
El Buco:
Supposed not supposive (not a word)
Barely not bearly
…the harder schedule in years past THAN (not then) the cupcake schedule they played last year?????…
Last year’s schedule was “cupcake”? S.F., Sea., N.O., TN. & Texans were all playoff teams. We take Sea. to overtime in their house. Beat TN if not for a bad ref call. Our Bucs defeat SF & TX if you-know-who doesn’t you-know-what! N.O. was the only playoff team listed we didn’t really challenge. They were and are the team to beat in the NFC.
Remember the wackiness of no real home game for 7 weeks? Not so “cupcake”. Bahaa!
June 13th, 2020 at 2:03 pm
@Bringbucsback
You think away games make the schedule hard????? Talk to the owners!!!!!!! They decided to trade in the home game for cash to host the superbowl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So much for “all in”!!!!!!!!!!! But that is not the first time that they made it harder to win for their own team!!!!!!!!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!
June 13th, 2020 at 2:36 pm
What bias? Is he among the NFL’s best? Not sure. Hasn’t won any awards. Played for bad teams with bad pass defenses. Stats suggest he may be turning things around.
Are there signs he could be a good player? Sure. Is he Darrelle Revis (yet)? Of course not.
Seems you are looking for bias.
June 13th, 2020 at 3:18 pm
Joe how much of that percentage are dropped passed or over/under thrown passes? Cause if i recall an incomplete pass is any of the three i mentioned. Now if you told me he led in pass break up thats a different story.
June 13th, 2020 at 4:26 pm
Joe, El buco is making this place hard to stomach. Or !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If that will help make my point.
June 13th, 2020 at 6:56 pm
Neither of those stats explain those factors. It’s not like the Bucs faced all garbage quarterbacks last year.
June 13th, 2020 at 11:32 pm
For the love of all that is sacred can we please lay off the exclamation points. Dynamics is much more effective with the use of words, rather than the over use of punctuation.
Thank you in advance.

it would be quite a good thing if CD3 really comes into his own this season…
team needs it…
because if you think SMB and Dean are both gonna burst onto the scene this year, you’re prolly wrong…
hope for 1 out of 2…
one out of 2 ain’t bad
