“Stop Lying On National Television!”

May 21st, 2020

Outraged.

Every time Joe turns on the TV, whether it is the sports hollering shows or the hysterical political talkfests on various cable outlets, Joe could use his new favorite saying.

“Stop lying on national television!”

And the mastermind behind this masterpiece is none other than screamin’ Stephen A. Smith.

In a BSPN segment about the Bucs, Max Kellerman had a conniption and said virtually any quarterback not named “Jameis” would lead the Bucs to the playoffs this year, and possibly beyond.

SAS could not believe his ears.

“Where’s Jameis starting?” Kellerman asked SAS, to which SAS replied, “You can’t say that. Where’s Cam Newton starting?”

Kellerman began a spiel about how he believes Jameis is the most worthless thing at quarterback since time began and SAS, briefly, got Kellerman to quiet down.

“Would you be saying this if it was Teddy Bridgewater,” SAS asked Kellerman, wondering if the BSPN boxing analyst thought the Bucs could make a Super Bowl run with Bridgewater.

Kellerman said yes and SAS exploded.

“That’s a damn lie! Stop! Stop lying on national television!”

See and hear the full heated exchange below.

Joe’s not convinced Bridgewater was ever coming to the Bucs. His former quarterback coach is the offensive coordinator in Carolina, Joe Brady, the same guy who resurrected Bridgewater’s career in New Orleans. That was before he went to LSU for the 2019 season.

Joe is fairly confident if Tom Brady didn’t come to Tampa Bay, Jameis would still be your Bucs quarterback.

If Arians was willing to give Bridgewater a long term deal over Jameis, he shouldā€™ve been fired.

I get if we went with an Andy Dalton and took a project like Jordan Love on, but Bridgewater? Dude would be terrible with our run game

  2. Bucsfanman Says:

Agreed Joe, I believe Jameis would still be the starter if not for signing Brady. It would’ve been a short-term deal, I believe like Brady’s 2-year.
It might’ve changed the draft strategy though.
Despite all the TOs, I felt like we still had a chance as a TEAM to compete.

  3. JA Says:

Another meaningless argument put forth by a TV show that thrives on meaningless arguments. The points from each side are subjective “what ifs” as there will never be the required empiricism to prove either point because Bridgewater (at least this year) is not on the Bucs. Therefore, his play for them cannot be experienced.
It’s like comparing players’ level of greatness from different eras. Everyone has an opinion, but nothing can be proven because the players never played against or with each other.
It’s like the Jordon-LeBron comparison. I’d take Jordan because of the killer instinct and his uncanny ability to hit shots when needed. But I have no proof on who’s the better player because I have little more than a feeling when making my selection.
For the underdeveloped mindsā€“ā€“before you go on a “how can you compare Jameis to LeBron-Jordan” rant, I am referencing how opinions are formed without empirical data as there is none for each model. It’s like if Jordan played on LeBron’s Cavaliers and LeBron played for the Bulls. We’ll never know the outcomes because they didn’t happen.
With that, opinions are fun, but the shouting, screaming defense of the 100% unprovable is ludicrous.

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

JA- That’s why I don’t watch their show, among others. Remember though, this is America. You don’t have to be right. You just have to scream it louder than the other guy!

  5. Anonymous Says:

That show is so awful, I honestly stick to NFL Network or the podcast Pardon My Take for sports talk now. Tired of these guys, and their infatuation with the stupid NBA.

  6. JA Says:

    Bucsfanman–

    Couldn’t agree more …
    And it’s getting old …
    High intonation levels supersede content.
I think we need a reset.

  7. Bird Says:

SAS is one of the highest …if not the highest paid analyst/expert /anchor on espn if you can call him that

    Its a joke
The dude yells everyday Like he is some tough guy
You could Literally push him over with your pinky
Plus did he ever play sports? He doesnt look like it

Finally , the NBA is supposed to be his specialty. He is wrong every year come playoff time on who will win the championship. Yet he is paid like he is a know it all sports god. Again. What a joke.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    JA

So true….I rarely get into a debate over player comparisons that simply can’t be measured….different teams, different eras……if an argument or debate can’t be won by some definitive measure….to me, it’s not worth debating.

  9. D-Rome Says:

Why are we talking about the Saints’ 3rd string QB?

    He’s a bust and I predicted he wouldn’t be a starter in 2020.

  10. Lazy weeb Says:

I know which joe wrote this article! Lol and I still wanted Jamies over Brady cause I knew Brady was short term. Anyway, Iā€™m happy with the goat and Iā€™m all in!!

  11. geno711 Says:

Possibly true on Jameis being the next choice here but there seems to have been more chatter here that it was:
    1. Brady
    2. Rivers

Regarding those Buc’s choices – maybe Indy would have won out on Rivers over us anyway.

However, possibly Rivers’ camp knew that the Buc’s and Brady marriage was going to happen so that is why Rivers ended at Indy.

  12. Hodad Says:

Off topic a bit, but why didn’t the Bengals try to hire Joe Brady knowing they were going to draft Burrow? I can see why Teddy wanted to work with his old coach. The Bengals had the opportunity to try and hire a coach who got Burrow to throw for 50 TD’s last year and didn’t? Boy Burrow could’ve really hit the ground running had they did that. No wonder some teams are bottom feeders.

Because, no matter what the topic, Joe seems to always bring up Jameis….and we take the bait.
I call it “chumming with Jameis”

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

What’s funny is Smith could not wait to put down Jameis when Winston was here.

  15. BUC CHEEKS Says:

No thanks, pass on the vid… Its too early to be ear fuct by SAS. In my opinion, thereā€™s dozens of quarterbacks that could take this team to the playoffs. With Tom Brady, you just get so much more! Tom changes the culture without even throwing a pass.

Man!!! I cannot wait for the season to start!!! With all the craziness going on in the world, our BUCS stole the offseason and everything is looking up for the 1st time in a long time!

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    D-Rome Says
“Why are we talking about the Saintsā€™ 3rd string QB?”

Like Bridgewater was third stringer last year? If Brady goes down, it will be Jameis who goes in. So he’s not the third stringer…he’s the 2nd.

  17. Youngbucs Says:

Sorry joe but thatā€™s not what theyā€™re arguing about lol

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I do not believe any other QB would get the Bucs to the playoffs. Bridgewater would not have. He really is a backup, and he’s no more a starter than Fitzmagic was. Fitz is a gap-filler until the next guy. I’m happy he’s a starter for the Panthers this year! Seriously, is anyone really afraid of him?

I think Rivers could have gotten us to the playoffs, but not far beyond. Cam Newton? I liked the idea of a feud between him and the Panthers, and he may have gotten us to the playoffs, but I’m not sure he’ll ever win a superbowl.

The Bucs don’t just want to make the playoffs. They want to go all of the way. So they took the best QB in history!

  19. Youngbucs Says:

Fun FACT if the saints lost their 1 score gms last year theyā€™d be 8-8. Turnovers matter people every possession every inch.

  20. Youngbucs Says:

100 years of NFL football says so you donā€™t need to era adjust that. Thatā€™s fact

  21. Old School Athlete Says:

Youā€™re right Joe, the show is awful. About a month ago, I forced myself to watch five minutes of it just to see if anything had changed. In that five minutes, Smith went on a diatribe about how Jerry Jones is a racist because he hasnā€™t signed Dak Prescott to a long term deal yet. That showed me nothing has changed. Your ā€œBSPNā€ moniker is appropriate.

  22. BrianBucs Says:

Arians said that Bridgewater was the Buc’s second choice over Winston.
After one year, Arians knew that Winston would just end up being a journeyman backup and Bridgewater was a high quality NFL starter

  23. macout247 Says:

I wish they took molly off that show – she’s awful. I dont watch it anyways but when I see clips…good lord.

  24. mark2001 Says:

I don’t know about that Joe…was he the B choice? The C choice? I don’t know. But I think we would have likely made a strong push for Bridgewater if we hadn’t signed Brady.

  25. mark2001 Says:

BB.. I’m generally not a betting man…but I’d bet the farm that this doesn’t happen….

” If Brady goes down, it will be Jameis who goes in. So heā€™s not the third stringerā€¦heā€™s the 2nd.”

If Brady goes down I’m sure we won’t trade with the Saints to acquire Jameis and have Jameis as Brady’s third string backup. Of course, I suppose the Saints could cut him…but even then, I doubt we would sign him as a third stringer.

  26. mark2001 Says:

And BB…if you follow the money, it wouldn’t appear to be Jameis as Brees primary backup.

  27. stpetebucsfan Says:

Lying on National Television? Whew…not an SAS fan but at first I thought we were talking politics.

I’m not sure where all the Teddy Bridgewater hate comes from? Perhaps JW envy?

    Career…

JW 28-42 Teddy 22-12 Does ANYBODY here give a rat’s patootie about wins and losses?

    Int % Teddy 2.3 JW 3.5!!!

Perhaps all these people claiming you cannot win turning the ball over are correct.

  28. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @mark2001

“was he the B choice? The C choice?”

Great question Mark. Andy Dalton only recently signed with the Cowboys. He was available. I certainly would rather have Dalton than JW…I’m biased because I grew up across from Cincinnati have plenty of cousins there who are Bengal fans so I’m aware of their feelings.

Dalton was a darling there for quite awhile…’The Red Rifle”.

I think Dalton or Bridgewater would have been like Brad Johnson. Talented PROFESSIONALS who could take the right team to the SB.

They are not flashy…JW IS!!! But you get flash and trash with him and the trash outweighed his flash. He is a LOSING QB…check yo sheets.

  29. Pewter Power Says:

If Winston was the quarterback we wouldnā€™t even be talking playoffs because dude has 4 interceptions games on the regular and I couldnā€™t see us winning a single prime time game with Winston

  30. Craig Says:

It must be tough for any sports show to find fodder for a show right now. I gave up on all sports shows, except for replays for the past.

I need some fresh sports, not talking, or screaming, heads trying to find a topic of conversation in a void.

  31. Posey99 Says:

    Rivers #2

  32. Oneilbucs Says:

I can’t wait until this season starts because if we don’t make the playoffs Brady won’t get blame for nothing it will be because of the team he’s on . All of sudden they will focus on every player on the team and not the quarterback . I think people that live in Tampa when it comes to Football yall have a losing mentality in Tampa . Yall don’t believe in building your own team for long-term success like the other franchises do. Their fan base demands success for long term not short term . I can promise you one thing that Pittsburgh will draft a quarterback next year in the first round and they are going to keep younger players at key positions . While I’ve heard some of yall already talking about getting Rogers when Brady leaves and Rogers will be 40 years old by that time . Losing mentality and a cowardly mind set .

  33. D-Rome Says:

I canā€™t wait until this season starts because if we donā€™t make the playoffs Brady wonā€™t get blame for nothing it will be because of the team heā€™s on . All of sudden they will focus on every player on the team and not the quarterback

Brady won’t lead the league in turnovers. No matter what happens with the Bucs this season we all know Brady won’t play in a way that is reckless and idiotic. Bucs will always have a chance to win with Brady under center, unlike Jay-Miss.

  34. stpetebucsfan Says:

    ONeill

“Yall donā€™t believe in building your own team for long-term success like the other franchises do.”

We gave up a FOURTH round draft pick this off season and walk way with the GOAT at QB and another HOF in Gronk!!! IE None of this impacted our ability to build for the future.

We just drafted one of the best young tackles in the league…for the future…last year we picked a stud MLB…for the future and added two more DB’s…for the future.

We ARE building for the future. There are far more positions than just QB which is why your arse is so chapped. It has NOTHING to do with the future it’s just you’re butt hurt over losing JW. Sorry for your loss but it’s messing with your logic.

Now lets look at a team that did it right…build for the future…year after year after year…that would be my son’s team the Cleveland Browns. They have loaded up on draft picks year after year with multiple #1’s. And year’s later…wait until this year. Perhaps they can trade for JW when Baker Mayfield does not work out.

  35. Oneilbucs Says:

D Rome over the last five years Jamies has put this team in position to win just for the defense to let the team down . This defense has been trash a long time and not yall try to act like we have had good defenses since Jamies was here . I can name you a lot of games that we lost because defense couldn’t stop no body and yall know it .

  36. Oneilbucs Says:

stpetebucsfan we haven’t built nothing for the future for a long time . Our GM is trash . You are happy about a 43 year old quarterback that his arm might go out this year and a broken up Tightend that stay hurt . Yall make everything about Jamies because of hate . Now yall all over Brady and he haven’t did anything for the bucs . But I get it if once any one brings up the strong possibility of Brady arm going out are him getting hurt you bring up Jamies . We have a old team in important positions regardless how you feel . This is going to be a set back for the next 3 or 4 years . Bruce Arians will leave us just like the Cardinals . Watch and see…

  37. JameisAlmighty! Says:

Jameis Winston wouldā€™ve won a Super Bowl in Tampa this year. Now he gets to win one in N.O.
