Football Lessons At The Bar
May 26th, 2020The things one can learn in a bar.
Joe can only imagine being in a bar near Wall Street and what type of insider trade hints are shared, or what dark secrets are told in a fashionable Georgetown bar in Washington.
So in some bar in of all places Blacksburg, Va., Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians learned his life’s creed.
Arians was a bartender and happened to be serving an older customer. The two struck up a conversation, as Arians recounted on Angels manager Merlot Joe Maddon’s video podcast “Uncorked” (what is a video podcast called, a “vodcast,” a “vidcast?”)
This is where Arians’ motto “no risk it; no biscuit” was hatched.
“I was a bartender in college,” Arians began. “I’m tending bar and talking to an older guy. ‘What do you really want to do?’ ‘I really want to coach but I might have to move my family a few times.'”
The customer basically told Arians that you have to take risks if you hope to succeed.
“‘There are no guarantees in life man unless you take a chance in life,'” The customer told Arians. “‘You can sit back and tend bar and sell beer for the rest of your life. You will be bored sh!tless. You have to take chances in life [to get] rewards. … You don’t get rewards without risk.'”
Arians said that has stuck with him ever since and been a motivating force.
So when you see park-violating, home-invading Bucs quarterback Tom Brady this fall take a two-yard loss to set up a shaky field goal kicker for a do-or-die, final-seconds field goal attempt, you will know the genesis of this stunt was likely spawned by a guy in a Virginia college bar back in the 1970s.

JW followed that philosophy pretty well but got trampled underfoot as a scapegoat.
Hopefully this will succeed otherwise Father Time or coronavirus and/or will be the scapegoat.
If things go south, I wonder if Licht will get another extension?

@ clean house aka ndog, throwing 17 INTs that did not travel 10 yards past the LOS has nothing to do with no risk it no biscuit. That just shows a QBs inability to read coverages pre snap

JW didnt have the mental discipline to throw it away ………

Yeah “Blameless” certainly risked it for his biscuits. And while he got a nice batch of biscuits he gave too many biscuits away and the other team didn’t have to risk it to get them…”Blameless” just threw the ball right to them.

Ok, then perhaps the “Whisperer” should have recognized an issue with pre snap coverage reads, and got off his golf cart or out of his liquor cabinet to help teach, remedy the issue.
But no, the guy is on his sunset delegation tour.
Then we would have the NFL’s leading passer firing on all cylinders, with over a decade left in the tank.
Wrong move all day long for the future of this franchise, but hey Licht needed to cover his own utter failure.
Give Licht the supreme credit for knowing how to save his own behind… wins the meaningless offseason almost every year. Knows how to be an excellent hype man with splash headlines.
I’m so eager for his next trick…. how to spin it when these golden oldies crash and burn.
Mark my words….he will be retained yet again!! Unbelievable dumpster fire

Hmmmmm I wonder if the above comment is a certain someone’s burner.

I’m just saying there is only one person around here that wouldn’t stop talking about how it was Winston’s pre snap reads that did him in.

Thanks for getting this one up Joe, it was pretty cool IMO.
2 old time legends, both long time assistants pushed into head roles late in their careers.
Interesting stories on both of them.

I love the story about his bar tending days. It’s funny how encounters with people can be life changers.Life isn’t always about football. Don’t let it pass you by.
You do have to take a chance.
No risk it No biscuit.

Clean House
Every coach Winston has had couldn’t stop the ints. When we’ll some of you truly understand he has a problem? When he’s out the league? He better clean it up fast because his nfl honeymoon is over.

For those of you who can’t move on from Jameis: He’s now a 3rd string QB. We now have a chance at winning the Superbowl. Let’s focus on that instead.

This is no burner account- I am independent of NDog or anyone else on here.
Although if NDog is a fan of JW, I agree with him
