Jameis mentions Lovie Smith, not Bruce Arians, and talks about his transformed eyesight.
America’s Backup Quarterback, Jameis Winston, connected with The Rich Eisen Show today and had plenty to say.
Jameis is the newest member of the New Orleans Saints and he said staying in the NFC South “absolutely” was part of his motivation.
“And it’s not just about, you know, beating the Bucs twice a year every year for the rest of my life,” Jameis said of the Bucs.
Jameis has lived “a month of resilience,” he said twice, referring to his changed career path and learning new levels of gratitude for people helping others through the pandemic.
Like he told Saints media the other day, Jameis is fired up and eager to start learning from Drew Brees and Sean Payton.
Asked about his feelings about the Buccaneers, Jameis said the following:
“Man, I’m grateful. The Glazers gave me an opportunity that I dreamed of,” Jameis said. “Jason Licht gave me an opportunity with Coach Lovie Smith back in 2015 and it was amazing. I love my teammates and that’s always going to be the case. That’s always going to be the case. I love this city of [Tampa]. … But at the end of the day they’re competition. This is my profession and this is my career. They gave me an opportunity. Somebody else has given me an opportunity now.”
Does Jameis blame his eyesight for his many interceptions last year? Eisen asked.
Jameis said he can’t go there. “I’m not making excuses,” he said.
“Lasik has definitely helped my vision and my accuracy,” Jameis added. “I can honestly say that because that’s what I’ve experienced.”
The former Bucs QB said he tried playing with contact lenses during his third season (2017) but it didn’t go well. He did not specify whether that was in games or practice. The lenses were falling out and he didn’t blink enough, per Jameis.
He expects his game to improve following the surgery in the areas of “ID’ing coverage and trusting my eyes a little bit more,” Jameis said.

If you’re worried about Winston vs the Bucs, you’ve got it backwards. If Winston starts versus the Bucs next year you can bet he’s going to get hit a lot.
1) Defenders don’t get to touch QBs in practice.
2) Winston put the defense in a lot of bad predicaments.
There’s a lot of built up angst for Winston within the defensive lineman group. Winston starting for the Bucs would be an early Christmas.

Decision making not consistent with football intelligence.
Will throw into impossible windows rather than taking the safe throw underneath. Elongated windup and release allows instinctive defenders to close on throws. Was to easily baited into dangerous throws. Struggled with intermediate passing gm in 2014, completing 56.8 percent of his passes with fbs-leading 11 interceptions in that range. Still learning the nuances of the position and how to move and hold defenders with his eyes. Would sleepwalk through the first half of many games. Inconsistent footwork and weight transfer caused balls to sail. Prone to emotional outbursts on the field 👀. Quality of decision-making drops off substantially when pocket becomes turbulent and he’s forced to leave it. Lacks athleticism to extend plays for very long outside of the pocket. Off-the-field character and ability to lead on the nfl level are his primary obstacles, according to nfl evaluators.

Moving on from Dotson and more experienced secondary will help penalties
The kicking remains to be seen
Brady will not be as athletic as Jameis and Bucs will rely more on run game.
But Brady is also a smarter QB at this point so less mistakes (turnovers ) will be made.
The key to Bucs season is the D IMO.
And there’s alot of talent on both sides of ball.
Jameis will get another opportunity some day – hopefully he’ll learn and be better, but he’s no longer a Buc and Brady is.

Jameis threw 5.109 yards a 33 td with bad eyes, so that eliminates the excuse for 30 ints. The mike LB had 13 ints last year on Jameis. The funny thing is the Bucs are gonna stat winning this year. And by far the biggest difference will be QB.
We brought in hardly any new experienced players for this team aside from a singular TE. Oh, and a backup swing tackle.

I am not taking part of the Jameis debate not worth it anymore. Just want to say something about the topic that many times comes up about Bucs QBs that went to other teams and won Superbowls. Doug Williams yes, Steve Young yes but he went to an already Superbowl team. What i dont understand is that there are many references about Dilfer like it was Bucs mistake to let him go, i mean come on guys. You do realize that the Ravens won a Superbowl with arguably one of the top 3 defences of all time and it was not because of Dilfer, he had an almost 1500 yards and 12TD/11INT season is not like he lead tem to the trophy. I dont think there was one person of all of us Bucs fans that he would make a decision to keep Dilfer. I laugh everytime i see that mention come on guys Dilfer. Go Bucs hope everyone is safe.

bbf90…exactly. It isn’t like color blindness, which is basically not treatable relative to T’s game play. Poor Vision? With Lasik? Just the opposite. It is a relatively common procedure, and Jameis’s own words said it was greatly successful and he can see better.
If a player chooses to not deal with such a thing, easily treatable, he is choosing to play at a lower level than he is capable of. That is no different than coming in out of shape and overweight, or taking plays off.
It just goes to show he never was what his worshipers thought he was.. on the field he is swaggy baker Winston, a guy not playing up to his capabilities, who has also lost game time due to questionable behavior and suspension for his conduct. Off the field, he has been a questionable character from time to time.
I was willing to let many of these things pass without talking about the crystal clear reality what it meant about this guy as a franchise QB. But since he is talking about how he was mistreated in Tampa, it is time to set the record on this straight.

Is it possible that Jameis made his receivers better? Who was Brate and Humphries before Jameis? Updraft players now making millions. Mike Evans is a great receiver and Godwin is coming into his own, but Jameis is a big reason they BOTH had 1000 yard seasons. Look at Perriman…another cast-off whom Jameis made millions. The same happened in college, Jameis made the receiver that was drafted right after ME and the tight end, and now they both are journeymen. Jameis just needed a supporting cast (RB and defense), we got rid of him but is supplying it to 43 year-old rent-a-QB Tom Brady!

He threw risky balls and fumbled in college…does the same in the NFL.
He only looked very talented overall because of talented receivers and players around him in both situations.

No BB…you are sorry that Jameis never sniffed a playoff game, was a 30/30 guy, that never corrected his eyesite over a five year period with this team because he really wasn’t willing to give 100% to this team, that we were basically a laughing stock the last five years, that self destructed in the few games that we were on a national broadcast, and that one national broadcaster actually called Swaggy Winston the Defensive player of the year, because of the number of games he torched our team.
I agree that it would be nice if Brady was younger. But if Arians is correct, with the team we are assembling, there are many QB’s that can win with this team. And Jameis was no better than most. So we have lost nothing…and gained the possibility of a deep playoff run.
