How Good Of A One-Two Punch?

May 5th, 2020

“You are so good with chemistry, Tom.”

Joe has noticed since Tom Brady arrived as Derek Jeter’s most famous tenant, the new Bucs quarterback is more active on social media.

It seems Brady is fond of Instagram. Just yesterday Brady uploaded a video reported to be of himself running footwork drills wearing a helmet. You really couldn’t tell if it was Brady or Ryan Griffin.

Joe has yet to see any video or photos of Brady working out with Mike Evans (for all Joe knows, Evans is back in Texas). And while the duo may not have had a chance to throw a football around, one Hall of Fame personnel guy already has high hopes for them.

In a recent article on NFL.com, the former mastermind of the Dallas Cowboys, Gil Brandt, ranked his top quarterback-receiver duos.

And with (at best) limited time together, Brandt has Brady and Evans as his No. 6.

Tom Brady and Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

Brady hasn’t had two pass-catchers top 1,100 receiving yards in the same season since 2011, when Rob Gronkowski and Wes Welker did it — to find another instance before that, you have to go back to the days of Randy Moss (Moss and Welker pulled it off in 2009 and ’07). Brady certainly didn’t get close last year, when Julian Edelman (100 catches, 1,117 yards, six TDs) was the only Patriots receiver to top 400 yards. In Tampa, Brady will get to throw to the only pair of teammates (Evans and Chris Godwin) who logged 1,100-plus receiving yards and eight-plus receiving touchdowns in 2019. I listed Evans here because I had to pick one Bucs receiver, but Brady could strike up a rapport with either Evans or Godwin — or both.

This is fun as hell to think about. And you could make a strong argument for or against Evans or Godwin becoming Brady’s favorite wide receiver.

Joe just hopes all this missed time because of The Sickness doesn’t come back to haunt the Bucs, as those are precious hours for Brady to develop chemistry with both Evans and Godwin.

With a pro like Brady hitting WRs in stride……chemistry won’t take too long….

  2. Rayjay1122 Says:

Can’t wait to watch this play out.

  3. Ndog Says:

Yeah with Jameis, Godwin was top 5 in YAC last year but I guess he was never hit on stride right Tampabaybucfan?

Again just make stuff up as you go cause you’re to stupid to know how wrong you are.

Do you guys just like spewing complete and utter nonsense all the time? I mean you lie as easily as you type it’s ridiculous.

I think these are two great guys and we shouldn’t take that for granted. In a position famous for it’s “divas” we have a couple of very talented lunch pail guys.

ME13 showed me a LOT last year with the way he embraced the emergence of CG14. These two guys will not be ego problems and Brady will respect them both instantly.

Like most things in sports there will probably be an ebb and flow where first one gets hot and then the other…remember Brady will also be feeding three talented TE’s one of whom will join him in the HOF. Getting everybody their opportunities may be Brady’s biggest challenge on a roster this talented.

  5. Alexander Nascimento Says:

Are you guys OK with Murray-Hopkins AND Prescott-Cooper better ranked then Brady-Evans AND Mahomes-Hill?

  6. Afo Says:

No I’m not but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

  7. JimmyJack Says:

Happy Gerald McCoy day everybody!! I hope you didn’t forget. Gerald is such a dedicated man that’s he actually works on this day and he’s not to humble to brag about it.

We aren’t blue collar to him. We are just a pile of animals who live for any excuse to drink and party.

  8. JimmyJack Says:

It’s going to be nice to actually have a QB who can get the most out of his players and not throw away games

Where in my post did you read anything about me saying Jameis didn’t hit WRs in stride…

Methinks you have become quite paranoid!!!

    Ndog WE DONT CARE!!!!!!!

  11. I Bleed Pewter Says:

Joe getting everyone all worked up and it’s still early yet. These are voluntary workouts going on right now. I’m sure many players are still vacationing. So relax Joe and give us more positive reasons to be excited, instead of the steady diet of doom and gloom.

  12. Joeypoppems Says:

If they really wanted to, cant Brady and all the pass catchers get together and work on their own? Obviously I know it would be tough with everything going on and idk if they would feel comfotable with it, but missing OTAs doesnt mean they dont have an opportunity to start to develop that chemistry together.

Players arent banned from working out together outside of the facility… right?

Poor Ndog. If he was a real dog the owner would put him down because he is in so much pain.

  19. Joe Says:

Willing to bet they could all fly to Brady’s mansion in Montana and be left alone and not harassed by Jane Castor’s goons.

  20. Joe Says:

I’m sure many players are still vacationing.

If not for The Sickness the Bucs would be thick in the middle of OTAs at this time.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What is worse…..stepping in buffalo $hit in Montana or just tossing it around in Tampa?

Sorry, SB…..didn’t mean to disparage Montana

  22. Will Says:

And some people on here want us to go get Edleman. We’ve got the most talented WR room in the league we don’t need him. Yes I’m a little bias and realize there are some great WR duos out there but I still say ours in the best.

  23. Jerry Jones Says:

Every team is dealing with the same thing as far as the sickness goes.

I’m not worried about 2 pro bowl receivers trying to get on the same page as a 6 time SB champion.

  24. DBS Says:

The most easily baited and triggered person on this site. Ndog.

  25. JimmyJack Says:

Jerry Jones……That is a good point but Tom does also have to get in tune with his protection up front. Especially his Center. And we got a rookie up there to. That’s a concern.

He also gotta get on page with his RBs too.

But I feel confident they can do it with a shortened preseason……This feels like something that would be a total excuse if Winston was still our QB……But a guy like Tom don’t usually give you a reason to need a excuse. That’s why he’s Tom……..Or as fans like me call him….. Tooooo-oooo-ooooom.

I think this is so well said. I see it happening but I am a huge Tom Brady fan. Huge. I think some people in Tampa are under rating him which seems sully for the GOAT. 🐐

  27. Buczilla Says:

Brady and the receivers should be humming by week 3 as long as trading camp is allowed to take place. I think that training camp will happen, but if not, our offense might be a hot mess for half the season or more.

  28. BucEmUp Says:

At this point theres no reason they cant practice together on their own time

  29. Darin Says:

    Wins baby. Just win.

  30. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Ndog – you are right and we all are wrong. Jameis is a great quarterback and will thrive as a starting QB making 30 mil a year in 2020 as you stated over and over. You are intelligent and we are dumb. Our apologies for insulting your brilliance!

    Oh – wait…

  31. Swampbuc Says:

I hope the team has prescribed some hamstring stretches.

Scotty Miller, Evans, Godwin all tweaked the hammy. RoJo has a susceptible hammy from his days at USC. Gronk will tweak his for sure.

The Bucs will have to rely on Goobert throwing to waitresses and bartenders. Count on it.

  32. SufferingSince76 Says:

Seems like it would be easy for Brady and the receivers to stay 6 feet apart and in a group no larger than 10. Wear gloves for the ball.

  33. BuccoDav Says:

    Npuppy…
Quit living in the past. It is time to move on.
