“With The 14th Pick… “
April 20th, 2020One well plugged-in NFL scribe believes that come Thursday night, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht will be one very popular man.
Why?
Well, hot dog eating contest-protesting, mock draft-scowling, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionist, Mike Florio-arguing, parrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancing, anti-football proliferation, outhouse-admiring, airline-napping, steerage-flying, Yogi Berra-worshiping, urinal picture-taking, video game-playing, Taylor Swift-listening, pickpocket-thwarting, Bucs-uniform-frowning, Allie-LaForce-smitten, Big-Ten-Network-hating, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball-box-score-reading, NPR-honk, filthy-hotel-staying, fight-instigating, barista-training, Budweiser-tolerant, baseball scorecard-keeping, pasta-feasting, vomit-dodging scrooge, Kay Adams-following social activist NFL insider Peter King of NBC Sports is of the mind that there will be several very popular and sought-after players on the board when the Bucs are on the clock at No. 14.
Therefore, Licht is going to have to show restraint and discipline in order to keep the Bucs at No. 14, King believes, and draft the next big thing for the Bucs on the defensive line.
14. Tampa Bay—Javon Kinlaw, defensive tackle, South Carolina
Heard a few things here—that Tampa would love to get a complete running back who can catch to complement Tom Brady, and that they’re jonesing for a top corner. With Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh big bodies on the defensive front, they’re not desperate for a disruptive defensive tackle here, but the value is excellent. I can also tell you that if Kinlaw is around at 14, Tampa will get some calls from teams—and not just for Kinlaw, but for Jerry Jeudy and maybe Henry Ruggs. One of the things the Bucs would love about adding an impact player along the front seven: Suh is 33 and Jason Pierre-Paul is 31, and defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is very big on disrupting the pocket. You can’t have enough impact players up front.
Whoa! It isn’t who King guesses the Bucs will select, it is what he hears through NFL back channels what the Bucs want. Another corner?
The Bucs have spent a lot of draft capital in the last two years on corners and they played just fine toward the end of the season. Was that a matter of the Bucs getting a pass rush that they played so well?
(It’s was friggin’ long prior to last season that the Bucs had a pass rush Joe isn’t sure how to calculate this.)
So perhaps this trade-O.J. Howard stuff is nothing more than a massive smokescreen for the Bucs to try to obtain a corner?
And speaking of Kinlaw, Joe thinks this would be an awesome pick. He would presumably replace Ndamukong Suh in 2021. Joe doesn’t believe the Bucs can afford Suh after this season if the team plans on keeping Chris Godwin.
April 20th, 2020 at 8:03 am
We need to take Ruggs for my Madden next year.
April 20th, 2020 at 8:06 am
Kinlaw is intriguing. I can see the logic. OT next pick.
April 20th, 2020 at 8:12 am
The CB rumor is a good one to circulate…for the trade down scenario…that said CJ is as smooth as silk and slick as glass….
even if one of the 4 is there I am still 50/50 in tade down mode as the best Big Picture strategy
April 20th, 2020 at 8:17 am
I would say King is guessing here and like most national writers doesn’t really know all the Bucs needs. I don’t think they are in the market for a CB in the first round at all.
April 20th, 2020 at 8:18 am
Dirty hotel staying. Another nice touch.
April 20th, 2020 at 8:21 am
IMO you still win with defense.
April 20th, 2020 at 8:24 am
Better not be a CB in the first round. Might as well just grab your favorite RB instead of wasting the pick on a CB.
April 20th, 2020 at 8:25 am
I, personally, would love this pick. Imo DT is the 2nd biggest need on the team (OT, DT WR, RB, Safety. In that order). Maybe they could take advantage of what is being called a deep OT class and get a starting quality RT at 45 if they go this route at 14.
Kinlaw next to Vea with Shaq on the outside. Thats fun.
And yea the CB bit there is definitely surprising. I thought Davis, Murphy-Bunting, and Dean played well enough last year to consider that group a strength at this point.

What? Yet another love fest for the Kingster?
Yeah, his opinion on the14th pick after I scrolled right past all the gibberish above. was actually a good read. I might read more of King’s posts if I didn’t have to swim the Lovefest Channel every time to get to the point.
DT Kinlaw would be a great addition to our DL.
April 20th, 2020 at 8:56 am
I am so looking forward to the draft. More than ever now since we are all so sports starved. I honestly have no idea what direction we are going in at the top end of this draft. RB, OL, WR, Safety, DT are all positions that most likely get additions at some point in the draft.
This year being so altered with the drafting and scouting process due to the virus. Perhaps some teams make some mistakes that benefit our Bucs.
April 20th, 2020 at 9:01 am
I’m on the Javon Kinlaw or Xavier McKinney train. You can never have enough pass rushers and cover players in the d-backfield in today’s game.
April 20th, 2020 at 9:04 am
How hard is it really going to be to keep Godwin? Think about it this way, if the move signing bonus $ around an manipulate the cap for a year like the Saints do every year, then the Brady comes off the books. As long as we have drafted his replacement in the next two drafts, the cap become no issue for at least 2-3 years. It’s really just manufacturing cap space for 1 season.
April 20th, 2020 at 9:06 am
Peter King has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to the Bucs.
April 20th, 2020 at 9:06 am
“We need to draft someone to compensate Fatboy VV?
We need to pay top dollar for FA Suh and now we have to draft another 1st round?
VV is a wasted valuable 1st round pick. Part timer VV is a waste and now soon we have to give him a new contract?
You cant draft. You cant win”

April 20th, 2020 at 9:17 am
Kobe Faker.. You sir win the prize…. Idiot of the day!! You are smoking the good stuff if you cant see that Vea is a MONSTER and is some national televised games away from being noticed by the whole league.

“If Ronald Jones ever gets over 50 yards in a game, I”l stop posting here.”– Kobe Faker
April 20th, 2020 at 9:25 am
“We have to sign 3 FAs in the defensive line next to Fatboy Vea
Pay over $33 million to compensate 2 down VV
and now we will draft a defensive tackle
People think Kobe Faker is a idiot
Kobe Faker has a a accountable idiot poster”

If the Bucs are really looking RB and the top 4 OTs are off the board this is great smokescreen.
Say you will take Kinlaw or maybe one of the Top DBs in the draft, make teams sitting behind you want to move up.
Would be a good play in a deep draft to move down 4-6 spots (land that RB or one of the next tier OTs) and pickup an extra 2nd.

A firm grasp of the English language will add credibility to whatever point or argument that you may be trying to make. Try it sometime.

Say…what is Jameis up to ?
April 20th, 2020 at 9:37 am
hey nimrod knucklesammy, it is complementary not complimentary you idiot! Stupid is as stupid does.
April 20th, 2020 at 9:49 am
Im just not feeling it with Kinlaw…..and Im a Gamecock…..just no….but if we do, I’ll live with it and of course pull for him.
April 20th, 2020 at 10:00 am
Jason has to draft 15 people at a position to get one good player
U never know with him
April 20th, 2020 at 10:04 am
“Destin J
Exactly, why is Kobe Faker wrong when he is stating the obvious
and yes we are still looking for a Saftey clone like Derwin James”
April 20th, 2020 at 10:57 am
I truly believe if the Bucs can get Kinlaw, give up a first next year (should be drafting 32nd) and give up a second this year (possibly throw in OJ), get Jamal Adams (you got Suh coming off the books next year, you extend CG and LVD) then you got a defense like Sapp used to say, give us 17 points and we got this. With Brady, you can still get a decent complimentary RB in the third, like the Gibson kid (RB/WR) to compliment ROJO, even without OJ we should score 24-28 points/game. About RT, well, Brady better get rid of the ball or use your two 4ths to get back in third or just sign Jason Peters if he is willing to play with what we have left in salary cap.
April 20th, 2020 at 10:59 am
If the Bucs draft a corner in the first the Glazers should let Licht go, before the 15th pick is made.
April 20th, 2020 at 11:20 am
Kinlaw would be my guy to pick. Let him back up SUH and VV for a year. Add depth to a position you can never have to many quality personal. Ranked number 1 in rush defense want to keep that going heading to next year.
April 20th, 2020 at 11:22 am
Cool thinking
April 20th, 2020 at 11:30 am
Ehh .. seems like another McCoy to me…. Haven’t done a lot of studying on him but I just wonder how well he’ll be about to eat up space in the NFL … Since that is basically Suh job… This guy seems more like a pass rusher that’s not going to be very good on 1st and 2nd… But again haven’t watched a lot of him
April 20th, 2020 at 11:35 am
Better protect our Statue of Liberty. Thats all I’m sayin.
April 20th, 2020 at 11:36 am
Let’s not forget that an upgrade over Will Gholston in the long run wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. No reason why Kinlaw couldn’t rotate into that spot as well. Get VV, Suh and Kinlaw on the field at the same time on 3rd downs? Sign me up!
April 20th, 2020 at 11:46 am
Grammarian
You left out a few commas. Idiot.
April 20th, 2020 at 11:51 am
If a top tier OL isn’t there at #14, this is the pick. Consider too that, the Bucs may believe that they have enough on the roster to draft OL later.
I could easily see a scenario that has the Bucs go:
#1-Kinlaw
#2-OL/RB
April 20th, 2020 at 12:38 pm
Needing a corner is a smoke screen. So is drafting a WR in the first. The pick should be 1 of the big 4 OTs or trade back for Josh Jones and a day 2 pick.
I love Brown and Kinlaw, but this is a very deep DT draft and there is very high quality on day 2 with at least 5 guys probably available as Suh replacements in 2021. The very high OT value isn’t there on day 2.
April 20th, 2020 at 12:41 pm
Kinlaw would be an excellent pick for all the reasons mentioned.
Immediate depth and freshness for our big guys in what would be an incredibly disruptive D line. This interior pressure is going to set the stage for Shaq and JPP to feast with some crumbs left over for White and LVD. Kinlaw could make our D scary.
April 20th, 2020 at 1:06 pm
He also called Levi Brown Levi Jones, twice, so I’m not sure Peter was that with it this morning.
April 20th, 2020 at 1:29 pm
kinlaw is the pick…IF he gets pass the 9ers….
9ers going kinlaw or WR….
GO BUCS!!!!!
April 20th, 2020 at 2:13 pm
Bucs have a very talented young set of corners who will make a bigger leap this year. No way the Bucs draft another one in the first 4 draft picks. In fact, this rumor of the Bucs wanting another CB is the first I’ve heard all offseason. I doubt there is little credit to the source. Again only a rumor – and a bad one.
April 20th, 2020 at 3:11 pm
Kinlaw is my first choice and Becton is my second choice for who I want the most.
I really don’t expect either one to fall to us at 14. But, who knows? Anything can, and often enough, does happen. There have been shocker picks in the first 10 that throw everything people anticipated happening into the trash many times over the years.
April 20th, 2020 at 3:12 pm
Hell yea !! Kinlaw has been my pick all along !!
April 20th, 2020 at 3:13 pm
Kinlaw has been my pick all along !!
April 20th, 2020 at 5:24 pm
Yes please.
April 20th, 2020 at 6:34 pm
If Becton is off the board I’m good with it. I’d also love to have AJ Epenesa who I think is being way underrated in this draft. Dudes got a comparable build and skill set to Cameron Jordan. He performed well enough at the combine not to raise any concerns and his tape is exceptional.
April 20th, 2020 at 7:41 pm
Take a OT Monster to protect Brady at 14…..then do as you please
April 20th, 2020 at 9:07 pm
Tampa has traded up with Carolina…..
With the 7th pick in the 2020 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Isaiah Simmons!
April 21st, 2020 at 2:54 am
grabbing another corner in the first round would only mean licht has failed licht in his own recent drafts…
we have gone so corner heavy of late…
this is simply not happening…at all..
peter king apparently had his brains sucked out thru his stomach during his gastric bypass
April 21st, 2020 at 11:33 am
Once & for all. OT in rd 1. Need to keep Brady upright. For the next two years he is the franchise. Wouldn’t rule out OT or OL in 2nd or 3rd rd. Another top priority is RB who can block & catch. (Dobbins, Swift. Haire, Akers)
April 23rd, 2020 at 10:52 am
We should try to take Jonothan Taylor in the second and do so by using OJ Howard and a pick to trade up
