“Stud”

April 26th, 2020

High marks.

One man who knows his share of college football thinks the Bucs got a steal last week.

And that would be Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. Feldman is arguably the most plugged-in college football guy there is. And when he’s not writing features, writing books or blabbing about college football on his tremendous podcast, Feldman is covering the game as a sideline guy for FOX Sports.

Feldman has done his share of Big Ten games in recent years and he just loves new Bucs safety Antonio Winfield. Feldman believes Winfield is the best value pick for the Bucs.

Buccaneers: Antoine Winfield Jr is a stud. He’s a first-round player who went at No. 45.

As Joe mentioned previously, he started studying Winfield after the draft and this guy is a baller.

The only trick with Winfield is injuries. If this guy can stay healthy, he’s going to be a ferocious safety for the Bucs.

Injuries have been our nemesis with getting young guys dialed into the systems we run. If we can continue to have an epic offseason, maybe we finally turn the corner as an organization.

  2. JimmyJack Says:

Yeah I’ve heard a lot of pundits that are very high on this pick. And you also gotta admitt that this is a great situation for him to enter(situation matters) he seems to be a great fit for Bowles defense that feasts off turnovers……..And also Todd has done great work in developing rookie safety’s. Winfield looks primed to be the next in line to be a feature safety in Todd’s defense.

Not sure how any Buc fan would not be excited about this guy.

  3. jjtixs Says:

He reminds me alot like Ronde……..except alittle bigger and hits harder!

  4. Jean Lafitte Says:

My same concern is if he can stay healthy. It will be punishing for such a smaller safety to endure the weekly bigger players in the NFL.

  5. Firethecannons Says:

Chris Simms does an evaluation of each position prior to the draft he takes five players and evaluate each. This guy is his number one safety.

  6. cmurda Says:

Todd and B.A. have bled stud safeties. I’m not worried at all by his height. Dude plays bigger and has the bloodlines to be a perennial pro-bowler.

  7. AwShbucs Says:

Next Earl Thomas. With even better hands.

  8. Tompa Says:

NDOG your savior is a 3rd stringer lmao.

And only got signed with the Saints so they could get info on the Bucs.

He won’t see a single play unless Brees gets hurt assuming he even makes the team lol.

And if he does play hahahaha “Winston looks right, still looking right, throws it up the middle” “PICKED OFF BY DEVIN WHITE ALL THE WAY BACK” TD TAMPAY BAY!!!!!

Lmao. The human ATM machine strikes again lol.

  9. Rayjay1122 Says:

I loved the pick. Pumped my fist because this guy is very talented, fills a roster hole and has a great football name.

  10. Jason Mclaurin Says:

This draft brought some really versatile players to this team. AW2 will be awesome. I think they should run dime package more often with this guy as well allowing him to line up at corner. AW2 also makes the depth chart a little bit more versatile. We got R. Smith, A. Adams , J. Whitehead, M. Edwards, MJ Stewart, and now AW2 as a starter along with Whitehead. Stewart and Smith will be great for special teams. We don’t have to bring Watson out on kickoff anymore either. Adams could rotate as a starter with Whitehead and AW2. Again that would allow Winfield to rotate as a corner in dime package and Nickel as well allowing an injury prone Dean to rotate as an outside corner with SMB. Winfield is injury prone as well so this rotation could work for him as well because there’s enough talent to allow him to sit as well for a series. In base 3-4 plays the rotation again could allow Winfield to rest or move around the field. I think Edwards will be a surprise this year as well. If Evans returns he can be allowed the time to work his way back up thru special teams. One thing is for sure we have some great tackling for kickoff and punt units now which further helps our dangerous defense pin teams deep and never allowing a big return.

The Bucs won this off season and it’s not even close.

    1. Wirfs
    2. Winfield Jr.
    3. Vaughn
    4a. Brady
    4b. Gronk
    5. T. Johnson
    6. K. Davis
    7a. Chapelle
    7b. R. Calais

Yeah, I think I would put that haul up against anyone’s.

  12. DaBux Says:

Throw in a Jason Peters and Deon Lewis as veteran depth and we’re set.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Tompa Says

Actually, no he isn’t. Hill is a gimmick player. That’s why they had Bridgewater step in for Brees. When their roster is trimmed, Jameis will be #2.

  14. Robert James Says:

shou;d have drafted Cam Akers there

  15. Bird Says:

    Bonzai

No …read payton’s comments from today . He clearly said Taysom is 2
And to say he is a gimmick is not true

I guess you dont know a lot of saints fans
Quite a few were hoping brees would not return for another season
They see taysom as a bigger …slightly slower lamar jackson who can run and throw and do a lot of other things

And where did you see beckwith being active?

  16. Tompa Says:

    @bonzai

3rd stringer back-up doesn’t matter. He’s gone and all the nut huggers were all WRONG lol. And crying in a corner having a temper tantrum lol.

And I doubt he’lol actually be the back up lol. Doubtful he will see a snap and if he does!!!!!! PICK PICK PICK FUMBLE!! Lol. It’ll be just like old times lol.

He gone!!!!! I hope all the worshippers go with him. Good riddance

  17. Knuckle Sandwich Delivery Service Says:

Nope. Happy with Winfield at 45

  18. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Doesn’t matter, Hill or Winston. Brees will take the snaps that matter, Hill some gimmicks.

  19. 541BucsFan Says:

Todd got his rookie DBs balling after 8 games. Hopefully Winfield has the same learning curve.

  20. Craig Says:

Winfield will fill the need for a safety well. The Bucs had really good luck in this draft. They also pulled in some good UDFA bodies. Calais and Chapelle might be as good as those two traded away fourth rounders.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We could have drafted Ronnie Lott and for those who wanted a running back (any running back) with our 45th pick…..would not be satisfied.

    GET OVER IT!!!

  22. SOEbuc Says:

Signed CB Parnell Motley (Oklahoma) in UDFA. He had good 2019 year and looks like a good sign.

  23. SOEbuc Says:

I’ma take the All America S to Bowles and not take a chance with a second round pick. We did that two years ago. I like the Vaughn pick as well. What did we need in RB? Pass blocking and hands. Check. This is the guy that’s gonna get those small yardage first downs and TD.

  24. Cobraboy Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Actually, no he isn’t. Hill is a gimmick player. That’s why they had Bridgewater step in for Brees. When their roster is trimmed, Jameis will be #2.

Bonzai, I love you, bro, but no team pays a “gimmick third-string QB” a guaranteed $16 mil over two years.

And then pay your new tryout QB peanuts to be the #2.

I think you’re flat wrong on this one.

I do appreciate your passion and bold statements, right or wrong.

  25. teacherman777 Says:

Go re-watch the film from 2019!

Cappa is gonna get Brady killed!

We need to resign Dotson in case we need to slide Wirfs into RG and put Dotson back at RT.

Dotson is still a top 10 pass protecting RT. Wirfs will open holes that Cappa cant.

Keep Dotson! We may need him!!

  26. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Winfield will be our version of the Honey Badger. This kid can do it all. As much as we needed a stud RB, his talent was too much to look past. Vaughn is great in pass pro and has good hands. He should pair well with RoJo and Calais can be a KR/PR and an explosive option a few plays a game on offense. I really like some of his tape but he has a lot to learn. But, you cant teach his kind of speed.

  27. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

DJ Fluker might be an option at RG for a cheap deal.

  28. David Says:

If there are saints wishing Brees didn’t return because of Taysom Then they have fans that are more ignorant than some Buc fans. LoL.
Taysom Is not a future quarterback for the future Lamar Jackson. If breeze goes down I guarantee Winston will be the main starter. Taysom hill is not a quarterback.
    But whatever…
this is about Tampa building a Super Bowl contender!!

    Go BUCS

  29. ©MadMax Says:

Def preferred him over Delpit. Delpit has too many injuries.

  30. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

I would have preferred a Pro Bowl safety type in free agency instead of the “Magic Bean” type that Gump is so enamored with. Yes, I know, once upon a time in a land far, far away a undersized safety with a cute hairdo was successful for BA.

I would have preferred moving up to the latter part of the 1st round and locking up Clyde for 5 years. That would have cost #45, #117 and probably a 7th rounder but in might have put them in a Super Bowl.

Instead Gump wasted #117 moving up one freaking spot to Lynch who pulled the same trick on the Bears with Trubitsky.

Big mistake passing on Cam Akers in the 2nd, they will live to regret that one.

  31. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    LOVE this pic.

Antoine Winfield JR & Tyler Johnson BOTH were leaders on a Minnesota Golden Gophers team that was relevant for the first time in 60+ years.

That speaks volumes of what we are getting in those 2 players.

  32. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    (LOVE this pick)
