Not So Young Anymore

April 22nd, 2020

Bucs are getting old.

The young Bucs are getting old.

Last year the Bucs had one of the youngest rosters in the NFL. The only team younger was the Dolphins.

That’s changed now that the Bucs got two old guys from the NFL’s oldest team, the Belicheats.

Last year the average age on the Bucs roster was 25.4 years old. The Belicheats’ average was 27. So now the Bucs, in the past two weeks, have signed and traded for long-time veterans of New England. They would be Tom Brady (43 this season) and Rob Gronkowski, who will turn 31 next month.

Yesterday, Jenna Laine of ESPN did a hit on the four-letter with former WFTS-TV Channel 28 sports anchor Sage Steele. Laine discussed the changing face(s) of the Bucs offense and the maturing of the roster.

Gronk is on the down side of his career, too many injuries, hasn’t played a full season in a while and didn’t play last year. On top of that, the Bucs overpaid the Patriots and are overpaying Gronk.

    Not a smart business move.

^^^ Yeah, its always foolish to trade a meaningless 4th rd (really a 5th rd) pick for a 30yo future HOF!! SMDH

  3. Ndog Says:

This is exactly why I’ve said time and time again it’s the Super Bowl win or busy because in 3 years this team is going to be an utter train wreck but everyone’s okay with that because we have the great Brady. So let’s all just hope and pray that we went at all because it won’t even be close to worth it if we don’t.

  4. Doctor_Berto Says:

Ndog, Bucs have been a train wreck for the last 15 years, why pass up a chance to win a super bowl?

  5. The Man Says:

Brady + Gronk = MAJOR Culture change in the locker room…
Those 2 will lead by showing what it takes mentally to be winners… Mentality mentality mentality… Confidence! Go Bucs!

    The man

No doubt Brady is a plus, But perhaps Gronk, and his personality benefited from the Patriot way…

Moms Venus may never be the same.

need grown men to go win a title. i was rooting like heck for Winston but he was 26 yet his game never evolved beyond his 19 year old self. similarly we’ve been waiting 3 years to prove he can “gronk out” and we’ve gotten mostly head scratching results….well, now we go get the real deal. we still have studly youth on offense and defense, and thanks to the gronk pickup and the eventual OJ trade, we are at liberty to try and add more this weekend. I think the bucs are done signing recognizable vets with the possible exception of a Dion Lewis type RB and bringing Dotson back

  8. pick6 Says:

*to prove OJ can “gronk out”

Would really like to see them take fromm or eason in round 3 if possible so whenwe win the Superbowl, the whole the doesn’t blow up the next year like before.

  10. unbelievable Says:

Lol at thinking Gronk is going to change the culture for the better.

Brady? Absolutely. But Gronk? Lol you’re fooling yourselves.

We’ll be lucky if he can get close to playing weight / playing shape by time the season starts. Dude was riddled with injuries his last few years are doesn’t exactly strike me as the type who spent the last year doing intensive rehab in between his 17 different reality tv shows.

Cannot get this team full of young Bucs hyped to listen and play football. All the talk that has been said about bringing good vets in is what needs to be done. These no spring chickens have been brought in not only to try to win, which has really improved, but so all the young guys we have can learn from the GOAT and All-Pro Gronk when to listen, when to shut up, and hopefully win six Super Bowls.

    YOUNG BUCS SUPER BOWL PUMPED!!!

    GO BUCS!!!

I’m just like at this point these moves really are similar to the super bowl run decades ago. Veteran signings and proven winners who want to get the job done, but only difference is these moves are a little more high profile. I also think Buccco Arians and Licht are teaming to form a real chance at letting young players come in and develop under these vets. I still feel they may need to sign 3 more free agents for that to fully happen. Those players are Ted Ginn for the return unit, Eric Reid for the back end of the defense, and Jason Peters would really afford us to move on from Donovan Smith who I think will be included in a trade by the end of this week. We trade D. Smith we open our cap to sign all three too. I think Gronk will restructure as well to get the extra year with Brady. I think they keep Brate and Howard as well. I think Howard will be key for the future. They will also be afforded the ability to draft OL in the draft and more young players on defense as well. I would love to see Dillon and the nose tackle from Utah be the savy selections at that point as well. I like the kid from Tulane as well to come in behind Ginn and develop on special teams. CEH would be a plus as well at this point to be utilized as a player to develop on special teams and backup running back. That would also give everyone an accounted role as well. I think they may need to draft a guard as well to if they don’t get Peters. Reid and Ginn are a must though.

Feel like this team has stayed young for many a years and it hasn’t gotten us anywhere, I’ll take the age, experience and having Brady and gronk showing the Bucs teammates some rings.
