Intel On Bucs Draft Leans?

A guy who has been right more often than not when it comes to what Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians will do may have tipped Bucs fans off over a month ago how this month’s draft will shake out.
The man behind TheDraftNetwork.com, J.C. Cornell, who Joe knows to have a direct pipeline to Bucs shot-callers, has been pretty accurate in what he suggests the Bucs might do in personnel moves.
Joe just noticed a Twitter Cornell published a month ago concerning what the Bucs may do in this month’s draft.
#Bucs could be preparing to go on a spending spree on QB and strictly defensive free agents. They would then focus on offense in the NFL Draft.

And the Bucs did just that. The Bucs landed Tom Brady and kept every major defensive starter who was a free agent.
So does this mean the Bucs may go offensive tackle, running back and wide receiver in the draft? Or, as has been tossed out, wide receiver, offensive tackle and running back?
Or does a quarterback lurk who the team can have learn from some of the best quarterback coaches in the NFL and play behind arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, and be ready to take over in 2022?

Pretty amazing we aren’t pigeonholed into a specific player or position in this draft. So many ways in which to go. RT and weapons for for Brady seem reasonable, DLine would be fine with me too.
That Laviska guy if healthy could be a 3rd receiver threat in the later rounds.

As much as i want to trade up for Simmons/Wills….just let the draft fall to us.

@Mike, unless we can grab Gordon with a 4th or 5th, i think the possibility of a QB in this draft is a waste. Lets see how things go with what we have. Next year is a great QB class.

“Last year team is not next year team” as is relates to all that happened and good. Like the D stepping up in last few games. Expectations are high in 2020.
Will be interesting to see draft picks. Brady will need upgrade in O-line and RB.
Brady is clearly an upgrade from Winston. However, Winston helped the 2019 Bucs O-Line with his mobility. Brady’s quick release in same duress situations that Jameis had, absent an upgrade in O-line, will result in throw-aways or short throws resulting in punts. The Good news? No turnovers.
Licht must draft a stud O-lineman and great RB to help Brady, period. At 43 with joints of a 30 yr old, Brady will still be vulnerable to big hits, as a Buc QB. Reality!
@Mike, I agree that Bucs better have a solid backup QB plan. And BB (Pats) tends to let go of assets sooner than later, based on perceived productivity.
Tom is all about proving BB wrong, which is good for Bucs. Popcorn time for me!

One Mock Draft had us taking WR Michael Pittman Jr in the 3rd round from LSU.

If possible trade #14 down to pick up a late 1st round pick an a additional 2nd round pick. Then pick offensive tackle, wide reciever and running back with the three picks in any order they prefer.

Listen, whether it was Winston or Brady, the Bucs need to draft a QB. I’m not necessarily saying with the 1st pick, but like RT, they better have a plan in place. This is a perfect scenario to bring in an understudy, IMO.

I just feel if Ruggs is not on the board we should trade back which I predict he will be. I think there will be a run on QB and OL in the first two rounds causing players to fall. Ruggs in the first and CEH in the second. Go after Dillon in the third. Draft lineman later on for the defense as well as pass rushers. Maybe another CB and Safety help out as well. I feel D. Smith should go to RG or get out of town. He played RG when we drafted him out of Penn St. We have two tackles in Haeg and Cappa. If we draft offensive line then it has to be a guard for the right side. I like Ruggs and CEH to upgrade our special teams and for Dillon to come in and be that third down red zone option for us. CEH can step up if RoJo goes down. Same for Ruggs he can step up on third down reverse plays, short yard pass plays, and special teams as a returner. We need his speed. I think Miller will be done by the end of camp but I would like to see Watson get a chance to start alongside Mike Evans and Godwin be used more for our true slot. Howard and Brate will also be a pass catching package in short yardage or red zone situations. Add the big physical stud AJ Dillion to the list as a RB/FB and we are cooking people. I can see Brate and Howard rotate as well throughout a game while keeping Auclair in throughout as a blocker. I feel we could use another CB I don’t trust the health of Dean or Davis. I feel SMB is a gamer as well as Whitehead and Adams we just need one more DB that can come in and take all pressure off of Dean and Davis. Again I don’t trust the health of those two guys anyway. Stewart and Smith are holding down special teams and can step in but we need a guy that can get out start that’s not a high profile draft pick or a veteran either. Someone from later in the draft that shows a good body of work. Another high end safety would go a long way may be Delpit can be drafted someone in that nature or look to a proven vet like Reid who is still unsigned and start him next to Adams. I like Whitehead and he’s a good imo but I think we should probably go veteran safety and sign Reid before the draft instead of doing the draft at that position. Reid and Adams starting with Whitehead rotating all over the field. Edwards may or may not come along. I also feel we should draft another edge rusher and DT for the future of our defense.
Draft needs are in this order as a priority KR, PR,2 RB (to be a returner as well and one should play as a physical runner),WR, OG(should be a great late find by Licht as usual.), and CB( again a late round guy that shows starter potential), Safety ( depending upon if we sign one of the veteran safety out there still will decide if we take one early or late) , finally DT and OLB pass rusher for depth and youth. We got Nelson let’s add to him and Nacho for depth and future.

Defense with the first pick. Maybe the second too. Not a time to rely on a rookie on offense. Watson and Miller will suffice, they know the playbook and are reliable.

Draft in the Trenches, both offensive line and defensive line. We need depth at both positions.

We all knew how free agency would go. They needed a QB. They had 3 defensive line free agents to re-sign.
Gee, that was a tough one!
And the draft? Gee, we’re down a RT. We need a QB for Arians to develop over the next 2 years. We need RB depth.
But no way we only take offense.

Not sure who the Michael Pittman is that went to LSU, but the one that went to USC would not be a bad choice in the third. Right tackle and RB have to be addressed. Swift is far and away the best RB in this draft. Dobbins, Akers, and Stewart all decent, but not as good as Swift. CEH is slow, had a great o-line and QB at LSU, and his film isn’t impressive. He should not be drafted by anyone in the first two rounds. I think it depends on whether one of the top 4 tackles is still available at 14. The second part of that equation is how they grade the second tier of tackles. If someone like Jackson or Peart grades out high for them I would prefer that draft Swift in the first (maybe even trade down a bit and get an extra pick later) and get the tackle in the second.

I think we take:
BPA in the 1st – (we won’t reach for an OT)
Div III OT in the 2nd
RB in the 3rd
WR in the 4th

@Aaron, agreed… with caveat that Licht will trade back if he can get another 2nd. The truly amazing thing is that we do not need to start any rook… IF we get some studs, we can slide into OL and RB but we could probably make do with who we have and still make some noise. What a difference 2 years makes!

At #14, OT Thomas would be nice… but I’d rather trade back and maybe get 2 OTs like Jones from Houston and Jackson from USC.

Is anyone really comfortable with our DBs in a playoff game? Aside from backup QB, I’m worried about the DBs being consistent. I’m sure OT and RB will definitely be addressed in the draft. But, I wouldn’t mind seeing a S at the very least come from the draft.

Trade al your draft picks move up and get Isiah Simmons. He would be the perfect safety for Todd Bowles to move around and turn the defense into a dominate one. Honey badger, Jamal Adams, Derwin James role. the defense would be awesome as our safeties are terrible. Screw drafting a running back you can find them anywhere, and just resign Dotson at right tackle Brady will get the ball out quick so don’t worry about the line its good enough.

Whoever said Clyde-Edwards Helaire is slow with unimpressive tape is either just hating or has a neurological lesion in their left parietal lobe! Jesus, did you watch the Alabama game of 2019? Oh…and he ran a 4.6 40….Kareem Hunt ran a 4.62 40…is he too slow also? If so, I’d definitely draft a “too slow” RB with game footage like that any day of the week.

Lambchop … I don’t know that any team is ever truly comfortable with their Secondary, especially in playoff games. But I really like how Davis, SMB & Dean came along last year under Todd Bowles, and even Edwards was playing quite a bit better in the last half of the season (still think he’s a CB/S hybrid).
Whitehead’s pretty solid at one Safety position, but I’d still really like to see us sign a quality veteran Safety who could start opposite Whitehead (Tony Jefferson is still out there). We’ve got roughly $10 mil in salary Cap (after we sign our rookie class) that we could use to sign a quality backup QB and a quality veteran Safety (those are my two remaining FA priorities).

I still don’t understand this picking up a QB high in this soft ass, not a lot of QBs high prospects? You think Jacob Eason and Jordan Love in the second round to ride under Brady for two years is going to magically turn him into the next GOAT??? Wouldn’t you Licht haters love that when it blew up. Get the best QB in the draft next year and let him be Tom’s wing man for one year. We just paid Tom $50 million for two years and the only and very hopeful place we should be throwing money to is a prime time vet S. Then again at the moment we have barely enough to pay our rookies much less go on huge spending sprees. We have too many WR to count to pick one high and if you were to trade Evans or Godwin OBP would be burnt to a crisp. Our defense is coming along and there is no need to break them up in Bowels year two. If someone wants to trade the average, most paid oline for a better player for a better olineman, I’m down.

If none of the big 4 OTs is available, trade back in the 1st and get an extra 2nd rd pick. This is a deep draft for WR, RB and DT in the first 3 rounds especially. So you can get high quality on day 2 and early day 3 at those positions.
1st – OT (Jones or Cleveland), 2nd – RB (CEH) then S (Davis, Chinn or Dugger as Justin Evans replacement), 3rd – DT (Hamilton as Suh replacement), 4th – WR (Proehl) then G/C (Hansen, Cushenberry or Harris), 5th – LB, 6th – pounding RB (Taylor Jr).
Day 3 QBs never work out as long term starters. Name any other than Brady in the last 20 years. Go all in on a QB in 1st rd of the 2021 draft. The only QB project worth taking this year is Hurt if he’s there on day 3. Other focus for next year LT (though I would rather trade Smith for Trent Williams after the draft) and DE.
