The Czar Of The Playbook’s 7-Round Bucs Mock Draft
March 30th, 2020Joe’s not a huge fan of mock drafts, but Joe always pays attention when The Czar Of The Playbook, Emory Hunt, is talking college prospects.
You may be familiar with Hunt from CBS Sports or via his Football Gameplan YouTube channel and more. Joe’s known Hunt for years and he puts in the work like few others in the business.
The other day Joe asked Hunt to move the Bucs up in line for his Inside The War Room series, and Hunt obliged. Thanks, Emory! A 7-round Bucs mock draft is below, and Hunt explains the simple rules in the video.
Joe really likes Hunt’s picks, two running backs and two defensive linemen are in the mix, as well as a developmental quarterback out of the Ivy League.
Enjoy!

I was watching a video on Henry Ruggs III (WR who ran a 4.27), he said he was training in Tampa with Yo Murphy, an ex-Buc player (please forgive me if that’s old news, I’m several states away). If the Big 4 Tackles are gone, along with Derrick Brown and Kinlaw, might he be an option?

Jameis just doesn’t have a job because he is Black!!!
March 30th, 2020 at 7:59 pm
Highly doubt we go WR in the first Joe in Mich
Most likely OT if Herbert is off the board. We have to be thinking that bringing Brady on board we HAVE to have a QB in the first two or three rounds!
March 30th, 2020 at 8:07 pm
Right. Trenches, QB of the future, etc.

Fixed it for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go bucs!!!!!!!!!!
March 30th, 2020 at 8:14 pm
I would be very happy with these picks!!! OK with Best OT or DT in 1st round…
March 30th, 2020 at 8:16 pm
@SB .. you sure it wasn’t the 30 ints plus the at least 5 that were dropped? Not including the fumbles. You sure it wasn’t the “I’m balling.. check my stats”? SB…are you sure it’s not the fact that he cant see linebackers? Are you positive its cause hes black? I mean as a black man myself. I love Winston. But I can only take so many tums for my upset stomach from the kicks to the gut I felt with every pic.
March 30th, 2020 at 8:25 pm
@SB:
I’m still hoping that they package OJ Howard and pick(s) to move up in the draft to get Herbert.
tickrdr
Self-professed “clueless” fan, but FWIW, I voted trade down in every single JBF poll, before making the big JabooBoo.
March 30th, 2020 at 8:25 pm
I don’t think any of these will pan out in the real draft.
March 30th, 2020 at 8:30 pm
You guys realize that Brady is probably planning to be here for 3 years right, especially if he’s successful here? This GM reached out to old contacts and went all in to save his career as a future GM after this experiment. There isn’t going to be a QB drafted by the Bucs in the early rounds. OL/RB in the first two rounds because they can make an immediate impact. The rest is a crapshoot/BPA. The goal is this year and next year, and Brady will be the QB for both. If there’s success but not a SB but it’s close, there will be a third year. They’re not going to waste a pick, especially a first rounder and especially this year, on a guy who won’t see the field.
This is no different than the Keyshawn and Gruden trades, and very similar to what the Marlins have done twice. It’s all in, hope for the best, then let the next guys figure out what to do from there. Enjoy the ride.
March 30th, 2020 at 8:31 pm
This was a great mock but would think safety instead of a second rb or DL
March 30th, 2020 at 8:48 pm
Furthermore, I’d honestly be surprised if a QB was drafted at any point when Brady plays for the Bucs. Ryan Mallett, Jacoby Brissett, Matt Cassel, Brian Hoyer, Jimmy G, even Drew Bledsoe. Brady doesn’t appear to care about helping develop his replacement/backup and at times comes across as downright threatened by them. This isn’t a Madden franchise and this won’t be a dynasty, but as fans, if we’re lucky, might get to see another title come to the Bay area.
If we’re talking about the draft, think about players, and especially positions, that can help now, not in the future.
March 30th, 2020 at 8:50 pm
You guys do know that I was doing my best Big Hog impression with that last statement, right?
March 30th, 2020 at 8:51 pm
I like all the picks but I also think we need to draft a Safety in there somewhere
March 30th, 2020 at 8:54 pm
Apparently I’m in the minority because I thought this guy’s draft priorities were way off. Bucs right now don’t have a starting RT or a starting RB or a starting Safety. We’ve also lost Nassib & Allen & Perriman as rotational guys, but that SHOULD be a lower priority come draft time.
This is the year that’s supposedly DEEP in Tackles & RBs & WRs. So I would think that our priorities SHOULD be fairly clear given that we don’t have enough $$$ left to buy a starting RT or RB or WR#3, nor enough to buy DLine depth. We’d like to have rookie QB to learn behind Brady, but unless a quality QB with excellent potential falls to us after Rnd 1 (RT) & Rnd 2 (RB) I wouldn’t waste the pick. Fill our HOLES with our Top-3 picks and make a run for the playoffs. Go for the gusto.
March 30th, 2020 at 8:59 pm
I agree Tickdr, you are clueless. If they draft Herbert the entire should be fired on the spot. It is all in time with the 43yo GOAT. We don’t need to be wasting first round picks on guys that won’t help them team until we are past this two year window of opportunity.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:01 pm
Did you watch the video DR??? He addressed all three of those positions in rounds 2 through 4.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:16 pm
This draft needs to be about:
1) Finding the QB1 Plan B to develop behind the old’GOAT.
2) Adding @ min 3 quality OL / DL troops to the mix ahead of potential 2021 “Price-Tag” departures (OL:Jensen/D.Smith/Marpet -DL: Suh /Gholston/Shaq).
3) Finding value pick play-maker role players to fill secondary roster needs- WR/RB/S.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:23 pm
Not one safety?
March 30th, 2020 at 9:31 pm
Kinlaw would be sweet and should be our number one prospect. We got two older players on the Dline that have a one year and two year contract. He can play all over Bowles 3-4 and could possibly be a monster young talent learning from Suh and JPP.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:32 pm
I’d love to see us snag Jacoby Brissett as our backup/heir apparent. Good reader of defenses, good arm and head on his shoulders and has spent time with TB12 with the Pats.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:36 pm
Brady/Brissett together again. Like that QB tandem.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:47 pm
hmmmmm I didn’t like this draft honestly. the fact there is no starting right tackle is a much bigger need then any D line or running back needs. only reason why I would take a D lineman over one of the tackles is if Chase Young gets caught smoking weed draft night and falls to 14. but aside from that WE HAVE NO RIGHT TACKLE. that is a huge issue.
also we need to trade up into the late first for one of the top safety prospects.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:47 pm
Kinlaw looks awesome! I’d be fine with pretty much every 1st round prospect except for the RBs and maybe Chaisson. All in all this looks like a super talented draft where you can’t easily go wrong but at the same time can’t afford to go wrong.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:48 pm
Would Love to see us grab Brissett as TB12’s backup/heir apparent. Good arm, good at reading defenses and has a great head on his shoulders. Plus a good relationship with Brady while with the Pats.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:50 pm
Look everybody tickrdr is still saying stupid sh!t. Shocker!
March 30th, 2020 at 9:51 pm
Wth? na wait, Taylor is going first round…..dont like the Kinlaw pick (never have)…Love the Peart pick though.
Theres so many what ifs going on now.
First things first, i dont think we go QB anywhere….we just signed the goat and drafting essential players who can contribute ASAP.
If the big 4 for OT, DT Brown, and S Simmons is gone….trade out of the first!
RT Ezra
RB Clyde/Dobbins
trade back into the 2nd for WR Claypool
FS Dugger/Davis
4th OT Matthew Peart/ Ben Bartch
5th RB Patrick Taylor
thats where im at.
March 30th, 2020 at 9:58 pm
Npuppy talking to himself again.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:02 pm
With no off season how effective will these rookie’s even be and we still don’t have a starting RT or an effective pass catching running back? In addition to that we are breaking in a brand new QB with no off-season who will get no time to gel with his WRs in an offense that the head coach has said multiple times that it takes time to get on the same page. Ugh this does not have me feeling very confident.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:06 pm
IF…Our Bucs were smart, they would go ahead and draft Brady’s replacement with their 1st pick. Unlike Jameis, the kid can sit and learn and not be thrown into the fire. I don’t think we get 2 full yrs out of Brady. He will be on and off the IR a few times. Better have some good insurance.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:27 pm
TheBradyBunch … Yes I did watch the video, that’s kinda how I knew who he drafted where. And his priorities were off. Kinlaw in the 1st is nice, but that’s NOT our biggest NEED right now if we intend to make a push for the playoffs. We don’t have a starting RT, so he drafts one in Rnd 3 to ‘maybe start’. Uhhh, no. You get one of the studs in Rnd 1 who ‘will start’.
Taylor is ranked as the 2nd best RB by Walter Football, but I’d rather have Dobbins. And I’d still much prefer to use one of our Rnd 4 picks on AJ Dillon as an additional RB pick.
Cephus had a good 2019, but was out of football all of 2018 because he was suspended. Plus he’s slow. Of course Walter Football does list him as the #24 WR, but personally I’d rather see us get either a Safety here or Dillon or another OLineman.
So no thanks. Much rather have an RT (Becton?), then RB (Dobbins?), then DLineman (Greenard?), then WR Proche?), then another RB (Dillon?), then maybe S or LB or even an additional OLineman. Loved CBS Sports mock draft of a few days ago.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:28 pm
Ahhh ndog
Did he hurt your feelings ?
Poor little guy
You rule man
I think its awesome that you know more them any other person on the planet when it comes to jameis …you have a right to call other people clueless
So funny
You are so smart
March 30th, 2020 at 10:46 pm
I just don’t think they are going to use a high draft pick on a qb this year. Next year maybe…
Trenches (OLine first). RB. Safety.
We got a gem in Marpet.
Cappa might follow.
I wonder if they stick to this idea, and keep their scouts working on the small school OLine prospects…
It just seems like a pattern to me.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:47 pm
It have to be one of the top four OT if Kinlaw was off the board. If you can scout them correctly, good oline stretches through the entire draft. Draft oline round 3 and a OL/DL in round 4. But I’m also hoping for some early round trade backs.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:51 pm
And it seems very obvious to me that we are about to get a new RB, RT, and S… simply because we can’t fill a roster yet at those positions.
March 30th, 2020 at 10:56 pm
Though (on the flip side of this), I don’t think Tom Brady would come down to Tampa if he really thought that his OLine was going to get him killed.
March 30th, 2020 at 11:03 pm
If that’s the case he didn’t watch enough tape of us then. Cause while they are overall decent they have enough complete screw ups where it could get him killed if not upgraded. Jameis got out of a lot of sacks that will indeed be sacks on Brady.
March 31st, 2020 at 12:01 am
Ndog, because JW held the ball too long with his slow decision making….good gosh you still dont get it yet….oh well
March 31st, 2020 at 12:14 am
Brady knows where he’s going to throw it much quicker than Jameis. Sacks won’t be a big problem if the starters can stay healthy. #76 will need help when we play the Saints.
March 31st, 2020 at 2:44 am
The NFL no longer suspends players for weed so even if Chase Young does get caught smoking weed the day of he isnt dropping. Period!!
March 31st, 2020 at 6:13 am
I didn’t dislike his picks. I do think OL over DL but, what if OUR guy isn’t there? Kinlaw would solidify that front for the next five years. You could afford to lose Suh if he pans out. I LIKE Taylor but would LOVE Dobbins. Not to mention, give me a bruiser like Dillon later, and I promise you this offense would be scary.
You could make the argument for a better caliber QB prospect earlier too.
In my mind, priorities in this order:
OL
RB
QB
S
DT
Depth
Mind you, RB/QB are interchangeable depending on who’s there. IMO.

Uh Jameis Winston’s time to throw last year was 2.77, Tom Brady’s was 2.75, that’s two tenths of a second. in addition there were 23 QBs that held the ball longer yet Jameis was sacked more than mostly all of them.
So who doesn’t get what again dumba$$?
You see you again fall for the narrative cause don’t know what you are talking about. Go away now little one the grown ups are talking sports.
March 31st, 2020 at 8:31 am
Thanks for the info on this dude Joe’s. He’s seems very knowledgeable and has a lot of content on his channel. I’m surprised that he only has 18k subscribers, so I’ll tell some buddies about him.
His mock draft is solid outside of wide receiver Quintez Cephus in the fourth round. A 4.73 40 for a wideout is slow as hell. Pass on that guy, but I’d be happy with the rest.
March 31st, 2020 at 8:37 am
Check out NFL Next Gen stats. Pretty much proves our Offensive Line was OK in protection also. Also proves Jameis’s record breaking turnovers were mainly Jameis’s fault. Many throws were so crappy that a DB was caught off guard that the pass Jameis threw was in the DB’s bread basket and the DB didn’t pick off the pass. Between Jameis’s interceptions, fumbles and passes that the DB’s dropped it is truly amazing our Defense was able to have as good of a rating as it did, considering where our defense had to continually start in the field of play. And of course Ndog is still the King of all idiots.
March 31st, 2020 at 9:02 am
You must be watching different games or ignoring the obvious as a true stupid ballsack buddy would do. 4+ secs in many of those games….freaking iddiot.
March 31st, 2020 at 9:20 am
We’ve got to get a safety in the draft mix.
March 31st, 2020 at 9:39 am
Uh no Madmax those are called stats, you know proof of what actually happened. So you can believe your make believe thoughts and believe the lies your being told but I will believe in reality to base my opinions on. See you are a prime example of what pisses me off. You have no idea what you are talking about yet you get on here on run your mouth and people actually listen to the crap you spew when it is a worthless as the deposits into a diaper from a baby in daycare.
I proved you wrong with FACTS just admit it you were wrong and apologize. It’s the least you can do for spewing garbage and feeding the narrative.
March 31st, 2020 at 3:02 pm
I’m thinking this first pick has to be devoted to special teams. Yeah that’s right I said special teams. We need a returner and I feel they should do whatever it takes to get Ruggs. They need Ruggs in the first to be a punt return superstar. That’s what we’re missing. I also strongly advise we draft AJ Dillion to make the running game more physical as well. I like RoJo pairing with Brady as well as OJ Howard. I can see Justin Watson getting that two spot this year as Godwin will be used in more slot. I do feel we need to get Ruggs in rd1, Dillion in RD2, and draft a defensive lineman in the third. Fourth round should be devoted to guard and safety and let’s see if there’s a CB and a pash rusher left late for depth. I wouldn’t mind getting Delphit in the second just to see if Dillion drops to us in the third and then look for a guard in the fourth or fifth. Look for a DT in that range as well.
