“I Bet Bruce Arians Has Said This Kind Of Crap To Jameis Winston Already”

March 4th, 2020

Discusses Bucs “Plan B.”

Drama and backroom jockeying at One Buc Palace. This is great!

Yesterday morning, at the same time Josina Anderson of BSPN dropped the nugget that the Bucs have basically told Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, that the next time he comes, he better come cheap or not at all, there was more intrigue being exposed on NBC Sports Network.

There, the creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio, while speaking on Pro Football Talk Live, said he believes Bucco Bruce Arians and Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht may have gone too far in trashing Jameis before the assembled NFL media. So bringing back Jameis is possibly a bridge too burned to navigate.

“It’s going to be awkward if Winston stays,” Florio said.

His co-host, former Bucs quarterback Chris Simms, thinks Tampa Bay is playing this brilliantly. Simms thinks by blasting Jameis last week and offering no support is killing Jameis’ potential market among the rest of the NFL teams.

“I think that is exactly what they are doing,” Simms said. “I bet Bruce Arians has said this kind of crap to jameis Winston already. … I do think he is Plan B. I do think they are exhausting all options on who they may bring in.

“Within that, I think Bruce Arians is being very honest about Jameis Winston, publicly and everything about that, because it favors him and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to be honest about him. …

“It’s lowering his price as well.”

This is a helluva dangerous game to play, even if the Bucs are potentially playing this perfectly.

Jameis and/or his agent could easily tell the Bucs, ‘Don’t like me? See ya!’ and then if the Bucs don’t hit the Tom Brady/Philip Rivers/Andy Dalton/Teddy Bridgewater sweepstakes, they are left with one sad option.

Blaine Gabbert.

  1. Robert Says:

    jw is solely to blame for his market value. he’s been given every excuse except it trumps fault………wait for it.

  2. Tye Says:

    Arians ha said he doesn’t believe in QB competition… If QBs have to compete, you don’t have one..
    He obviously like BG because he brought him from Arizona and has expressed wanting him back in 2020..
    That is not to say he wants BG to be his starter but by all appearance, he would rather start BG than to put up with JWs epic flaws one more season…

  3. ModHairKen Says:

    Fast Times at One Buc High.

    It really doesn’t matter who the QB is or is not. That’s what the management is saying. Jameis is sitting at home terrified.

  4. SteveK Says:

    This is best.

    Where is Jameis going to go, Joe?

    Is Jameis going to say “bye bye”
    To be a backup. Good for him.

    He’s not a franchise QB- in results (turnover margin) nor in expected payday.

    Pay Shaq, JPP, Suh and Nassib. They’re worth it and not inconsistent players that kill our chances to win.

  5. DBS Says:

    So. And Jameis could be left with the “Who is knocking at my door”. Nobody.

  6. Bobby M. Says:

    There’s stuff behind the scenes we aren’t hearing….if he goes, you can believe it will come out. Winston is not the person he tries to project, there’s really two sides to him. He promotes the idea of passion for football, team first, but his sole focus is his stats….that’s the basis to his whole “i’m balling” mentality. He promotes the idea of being role model, but then continually finds himself settling sexual assault cases with non-disclosure agreements. There’s a reason why NIKE, nor any other company aligns there brand with him.

    My guess is Winston feels he’s the victim. Just like he did at FSU, with the Uber incident, now with BA. Everyone is out to get him…girls, the media, coaches, ownership….the dude is just bizarre and lacks awareness of the reality that exist around him.

  7. Robert Says:

    great post Bobby M. I agree completely. funny thing is it was easy to see before we drafted him. buclife……….

  8. Allbuccedup Says:

    There’s always case keenum and draft jordan 💘

  9. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

    Maybe they are all wrong and Jameis’ agent is ready to pull the trigger on a $150M contract with the Chargers who are desperate to establish them selves in the LA Market.

    Win or lose, sell the excitement!

  10. SC Bucs Fan Says:

    Joe – every article says there are more free agent QBs then open chairs to put them in. Gabbert won’t be our starter and you know that.

  11. LordCornelius Says:

    “Jameis and/or his agent could easily tell the Bucs, ‘Don’t like me? See ya!’ and then if the Bucs don’t hit the Tom Brady/Philip Rivers/Andy Dalton/Teddy Bridgewater sweepstakes, they are left with one sad option.”

    Hm… is that even a realistic possibility though? These are the primary 5 teams I see involved in this QB market before the draft:

    1. Indy
    2. New England
    3. San Diego
    4. Tampa
    5. Chicago
    6. ????

    I guess I’m just trying to figure out a scenario in which Jameis gets an option to start elsewhere AND we lose out on 4 additional QBs?

    Besides the 5 teams listed above who would even be involved in this QB market of FA’s?

    Cincy & Miami are going QB in the draft or Miami will continue tanking for Lawrence.

    And if these teams get involved it just adds more to the QB options:

    Jags – Foles
    Raiders – Carr
    Titans – Tannehil

    These teams will not be meddling in this market of FA names:

    Panthers / Falcons / Saints / Browns / Bills / Cowboys / Broncos / Lions / Packers / Texans / Chiefs / Vikings / Giants / Jets / Eagles / Steelers / Redskins

    So again – i don’t even see how this is a potential sceneario for the Bucs. We will have an option besides Blaine Gabbert… Unless all these QBs take a protest against playing in Tampa.

  12. Formerly Tampa 2 Says:

    Sure hope it’s not Gabbert, but do hope it’s someone besides Winston for 2020. Still wishful for a trade with Chucky for Carr.

  13. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

    Arians said this season would have been different had Gabbert been healthy… I can only take that to mean that he’d have benched Winston.

    Which is amazing… I’m no fan of Winston, but Gabbert’s stats are pretty terrible.

    What would Arians see in him?

  14. LordCornelius Says:

    maybe we get Winston at like $15M+incentives at this point lol

  15. SmoothBayRider Says:

    Where is NDog ?

  16. tmaxcon Says:

    at the end of the day BA and the Glazers will be chasing another 2-14 season after all this cockiness blows up in their faces. the young unproven secondary will regresses mightily. the only thing the bucs have been consistent at over their 43 years is screwing up off seasons…. Outside of Whyce getting the pieces for dungy the clown to waste, every off season is a comedic act followed by embarrassing on field play. results prove that ladies… you are not the proud owners of the worst winning percentage in nfl history without embarrassing the sport consistently.

  17. BrianBucs Says:

    I have said for a while that Winston is the Buc’s fallback option in case they can’t get who they really want.

    I have said for a while that Winston is the Buc’s fallback option in case they can’t get who they really want.

    when the fall back option gives the failed franchise the finger it will be beyond awesome… jameis has a future the bucs under ba and glazers do not…. only thing ba and glazers will attract to tampa is flies, mosquitoes and crackheads from ohio.

  19. Waterboy Says:

    I don’t think it’s dangerous or a game. I think they’re serious about moving on if necessary and don’t see him as irreplaceable. If I’m a coach of another team and put on last year’s game tape I wouldn’t be willing to write him a big check. I’d consider giving him a prove it deal.

  20. Waterboy Says:

    Joe I think you’re the only one with the beer goggles on and only focus in 5k yds without looking at the big picture and impact of turnovers and pick 6’s.

  21. SOEbuc Says:

    Yes, if all else fails, draft Eason and start Gabbert next season.

  23. Bruce Blahak Says:

  28. SOEbuc Says:

    Chris Simms is my favorite national NFL analyst. He knows how the game and business works in the NFL and he does his homework and probably watches a lot
    film. He’s also right that BA is not really the type to blow clouds of smoke up your bunghole all the time. If this is the plan, which Simms said and is plausible, I’m now just wondering who plan A will be and why?

  29. D-Rome Says:

    I’m not sure how all of this is lowering Jay-Miss’ price. That would make sense if other teams want him as a long term starter. No team does.

  30. Mike Johnson Says:

    Give us the verdict Now. Fight or flight. Or sign Teddy Bridgewater and be done with it.

  31. SOEbuc Says:

    And I always have to put it out their that I’m a big Longhorn fan and I met him and his cute family at a small ice cream shop in South Tampa when he was with the Bucs.

  32. SteveK Says:

    Dungy averaged 10+ wine per year. He’s a HOF coach.

    Jameis Winston is 28-42, and has the most turnovers in the league since 2015. He was once a pro bowl alternate, four years ago.

    I understand your disdain for Dungy, but on what planet is he not better at footballing than Jameis, and how can you sling such hate towards Dungy, but not Jameis? It really is astonishing.

  33. Craig Says:

    Ryan Griffin made Gabbert look like a pee-wee leagurer last pre-season.

    Jameis needs a serious, sit down talk. Those last two games were worse than half of the XFL QBs have had. This was supposed to be a fifth year player auditioning for his $100 million ticket.

    I don’t really care if it is awkward, if Jameis comes back, he needs a very short leash.

    Bucs have to draft a QB Gordon or Morgan in the third.

  34. gotbbucs Says:

    This is an insane amount of handwringing over a guy that hasn’t won anything and lead the league in turnovers….by a wide margin.

    This kind of nonsense is what you get when a team has never had a legit “franchise” quarterback. Winston is essentially a King of Turds. He threw for 5000 yards and 33 TD’s, and 30 interceptions and probably 500+ interception return yards and 7 TD’s.

    You. Can. Not. Turn. The. Ball. Over. Like. That. In. The. NFL. And. Win. Games. Period.

    There will be between 5-10 QB’s every year from here on out that will have a chance at throwing for 4500 – 5000 yards every season because of the defensive rules.
    Winston can thank Leftwich for those 5000 yards because he called some bad games last season. The lack of a running game is about 50% the responsibility of the play caller.

  35. 813bucboi Says:

    didnt know they were “blasting” him….lol….

    it just sounded like they were speaking the truth…..lol….

    imo, JW is plan D…..

    plan A- Brady(aint happening)
    plan B- Teddy(asking price?)
    plan C- Carr(asking price from the raiders)
    plan D- JW for 12-15mil and draft a QB…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    No dangerous game at all…….if Jameis is plan B or C…..no danger……execute plan A of B and game over for Jameis…

    Also….there is the tag and Jameis can’t do anything about that……if we tag him, no team will pony-up $27-28 mil…….

  37. Beeej Says:

    I think even Gabbert could be successful with our defense, if we had a running game

  38. Aaron Says:

    I don’t see how any of this ends well for the Bucs…

    1) Improve at QB (then hope they can get the offense by September)

    2) Improve at RT (maybe even center at a cheaper price)

    3) Improve at RB

    4) Sign or Draft a WR that can contribute this year…

    5) Overpay to sign basically all of our Dline in FA

    6) Cross your fingers that you don’t have regression in your young secondary

    7) Hope your kicker gets it right

    Sigh – Go Bucs! I just don’t really have faith in this team’s management to get this right…

  39. Adrnagy Says:

    The Buccaneers are monitoring soon-to-be free agent Ryan Tannehill, according to Jenna Laine of ESPN.com.
    Plan A. Ryan Tannehill. Plan A old Brady / rivers (I hope they can take a pounding) d smith. Dotson. Cappa. I’m sure will protect well.
    Plan A teddys short hand. And waiting for an injury. ( I’m guessing the saints know that ) so why not sign him ? If he’s that good.
    Plan A trade for Carr and gruden in a package. Send the next 5 1st round and Bruce Arians.

    Do you really think this qb want to come and play for Bucs ? And for a friendly contract?
    There’s a reason why they’re free agents ,hunting $$$$
    What else do you guys want ?

  40. TexBuc Says:

    A lot of fans will site Winston’s stats and say that is what is in store for next season, but at the same time refuse to acknowledge the FACT every time we (Bucs) try to improve the QB position it backfires and takes 3-5 years to find the “right” replacement. So our history says we are in for another “rebuild” for the next 3-5 years again.

  41. BigHog Says:

    “This is an insane amount of handwringing over a guy that hasn’t won anything”

    ~~~~~
    It’s not hard to understand, though. You have a guy who at times looks like absolutely one of the best QB’s in the NFL…. and at other times, looks like the worst. — We have never seen anything quite like it.
    There are a lot of coaches with a lot of ego who probably think they are the one who is going to fix it and tap into only the good.
    It is appearing more and more like B.A. may not be so sure that this is possible. We will see.
  44. SteveK Says:
    The bottom line is that turnovers win out, and we have to cut bait because it’s impossible to win like that.
  45. JimmyJack Says:
    Joe I’m not sure if your math works. I’ll admitt I’m not certain how it works out but if Winston finds a starters gig somewhere else one of them 4 other QBs you mentioned will/should be avialable.
    We may get even be throwing Dak Prescott or Tannehill into the mix. What if Big Ben or Stafford are in play?
    I think it’s quite certain that their is no shortage of options. This plays into the Bucs situation perfectly if they want to strongarm Winston. I don’t think the risk is high at all.
  46. miken Says:
    “don’t like me , see ya!”???? where exactly is he going? Sure, every team would like him on a team friendly , short term deal… but he ain’t finding a multi year deal over 20 a year … except in tampa
  47. Jameis #1 Fan Says:
    Yall on here talking crazy about getting rid of the kid…Meanwhile He talking to ME13 about “keeping this show on the road” and next year being a “Masterpiece “…..Jameis is coming back to win ….check ya sheet…Ballllin!
  48. Adrnagy Says:
    Patrick mahomes last time I saw him play … mmm in the super bowl threw acouple picks “turnover” and came back and won the game.
    So pls. To all you preschoolers you can win with turnovers.
    Does your team play smart ? His your team fundamentally sound ? You know … no dropped ball , no penalties , no missed FG. , no missed blocks etc etc.
  51. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    ^^ If this is where the journey ends in TB…. no sadly he never quite made it there.
  52. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    I like Jameis a lot, and always have.
    It didn’t help him very much this season that OJ Howard had more tackles than TD receptions.
    More TACKLES. Think about that.
    Agghhhhh Jameis. Frustrating.
  53. JimmyJack Says:
    Adrnagy…….Yes you can win with turnovers. Not sure you can count on it but it is possible.
    But I can guarantee you one thing. It’s not possible to win with a pick6 in OT.
    It’s also nearly impossible to win when you throw a pick6 when you down by only one score with 2 mins left. Or an INT.
    Those all happened to Winston this year. That’s three games we really should realistically expect a potential 30M QB to win or at least give us a late lead.
    When you QB blows three opportunities like those in a year that’s called choking. 3 missed opportunities like them is too much to overcome in a 16 game season.
    Of course we can’t expect perfection and it’s fair to point out late drives where he did succeed but when you are losing more then your winning in them situations that’s bad. That’s not worth 30M.
    Bottom line is that Winston must be better then that and honestly he was expected to already be better then that.
  54. JimmyJack Says:
    Demon OJ had more drops then TDs too…..If I’m the scorkeeper.
    OJ also probably had at least three times as many wiffed blocks as TDs as well.
    OJ in three years has never had a better stastical season then Cam Brate had in 2016. ON overrated and hurts the team more then helps. OJ gotta go.
  55. soggy Says:
    Poor winston being a buc he never had a chance to prove his awesomeness
  56. Adrnagy Says:
    Jimmy you can’t blame every snap. Every play on Winston. WR giving up on routes. TE dropping/ tipping balls. Etc etc.
    we are a bad team. A lot of 3-15 due to penalties. Etc etc. be realistic.
    The one player that’s allow to turn ball over is QB.
    QB is going against all defense. 11 defender eyeing. No one else should be off basic fundamentals.
    Our coaches have fail in that aspect. But still put everything on jameis.
    $18-21 million is his range
  60. Clean House Says:
    Jameis is a clear upgrade over Trubisky, Brissett, Tyrod Taylor, New England’s backup, whoever that is
    Prove me wrong
  61. SOEbuc Says:
    This is way off topic Joe but I’ve been thinking about the safety situation a lot. Especially the draft. FS isn’t a rock hard position this year but there is a lot of potential to rise in rounds 2-5. Obviously Bowels can teach secondary potential. Like to hear some of your thoughts on who might be good fits (whatever round) and if you’ve heard anything. Licht and Bowels can pick DBs. I’m thinking S in round 3-4
  62. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:
    Yeah the Bucs have a great history of playing things perfectly.
  63. Fartman Says:
    don’t forget door number 3…. a rookie
  64. But fan from day 1 Says:
    I’ve lived through all of the era’s that a buc’s can go through(1978-present) and I can tell you if jameis goes this will go down like it did with Williams, Testeverde, and Dilfer. BA already said that this is one of the most complex offense’s there is and your going to knock a guy who did what he did with no O-Line, no running game, a busted throwing hand, tipped balls, most QB pressures in the league with a sub 2.75 sec read opportunity. I really hope he goes somewhere and lights it up. And we are left with a hand me down busted QB that these other teams don’t even want and we continue to lose. Even Brady is washed up and New England knows it and letting him go. But you guys fawn over him like he’s in his prime and still get it done. Same goes for Rivers.
  65. Pewter power Says:
    It’s best to go all out especially after saying you can win with any quarterback because he may have to prove it. Honestly it’s not that hard to be better than Winston who makes a lot of decent throws per game but it’s the 3-4 dumb throws that hurt him…..new chapter new decade and new quarterback and playoffs weren’t possible with him so not really worried about the team without him
  66. Rod Munch Says:
    The Andy Dalton / Teddy Bridgewater sweepstakes.
    That’s what the triggered Winston haters think are top notch options.
    LOL!
  67. Rod Munch Says:
    Amazing riveting talk in here, I love how X says blah blah blah, then Y says blah blah blah, then they repeat saying the same thing for 6 months. Incredible stuff guys, thanks for sharing.
  68. miken Says:
    what a waste of 5 years
  69. But fan from day 1 Says:
    @rod munch, so true. I’ve said it before. Farve threw more int’s than TD’s several times in his career and he had a lot better O-line and running game than what Winston has had his whole time here.
  70. jmarkbuc Says:
    Get a top tier QB or don’t…
    John Lynch built a SB team in three years..and the first two he was playing anybody he could find at QB. Built great O and D lines, filled out the rest then Game manager Garropolo got them to the promised land.
    We’ve lost enough over the years…what’s another year or two if we’re building everything else. Only downside is Licht ain’t no Lynch.
    Let Jaboo walk.
  71. Guzzie Says:
    Really hope we get a top 2 draft pick next year, Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields, 15 years of great QB play, aren’t the Bucs due for a franchise QB, we’ve never had one stay longer than 5 years f-ing sucks
  72. Pick6King Says:
    I’m 100% sure of one thing. Licht will screw this up big time. He’s just trying to sell tickets by pretending to be anti Winston. In the end, the turnover machine will be back under center, and we’ll be in the basement of the NFC south. Winning organizations strive for greatness, losing ones embrace failure and fight to continue losing. #NoPlayoffs
  73. JimmyJack Says:
    Adnargy…….I’m not blaming everything on Winston.
    That 49ers game is a perfect example. OJ Howard missed blocks and fumbled in that game. Dare Ogunbowale missed a block and gave up a blocked punt. Pentalties galore all around.
    The Bucs were terrible in that game.
    None of that absovles Winston from being terrible too.
    He had the freaking ball in his hands with a chance to go on a gmae winning drive buddy. On the first play of that drive he forced a throw that wasn’t there. First freaking down. That’s freaking bad QB play bro and Winston should not be part of the reason why we are so bad.
    Winston is not the reason but he is defientally a part of it far too often. To say otherwise is a freaking lie. And that don’t even mention all the other awful mistakes he made that game……….alAnd that’s just one game. He throws multiple clunkers like that several time every year. That’s not good bro, that’s bad.
    And I do want Winston back and still support him. Believe he will improve in this offense year 2. But let’s be honest…..bad mistakes are bad mistakes. It’s black and white.
  78. SOFIERCE Says:
    Winston is a bad QB who gets lucky more than most.
    Why is he bad? Because he hasn’t learned how to win by controlling the game. Taking control of the game is too boring and strategic for him; he primarily focuses on making splash plays through impromptu circumstances.
    When he starts caring more about winning than gaining yards he will find himself in the playoffs.
    If he played basketball, he would primarily shoot half-court shots. (Set a record in 3 points, but miss the playoffs)
    If he dragged raced, he would set the record in the 1/4 (But never win a tournament due to his car blowing up before the finals)
    This is a mentality problem. What coach is willing to deal with that? and at that price?
    PEACE-
    This has turned into a big JW fan blog. Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback… Blah blah blah. When will Joe Buc get past it?
  80. SC Bucs Fan Says:
    Adrnagy I don’t hate Winson. I hate losing and, in the NFL, Winston has been a loser.
  81. mark2001 Says:
    Androgyny…It isn’t about hating Jameis…it is about loving solid QB play and wins. And Jameis hasn’t shown the ability to play solidly more than two games back to back, or make big plays to bring the team back to victories. Maybe you don’t care about either, because of some man love. But for those that want to the Bucs to be a solid and winning team….we have to have better play at multiple positions…and the highest paid and most important of them is at QB.
  82. Bucnjim Says:
    I guarantee that Winston’s agent after the final two games was either crying or breaking everything in sight. You see his agent and Arians both told him hey JUST DO NOT TURN THE BALL OVER but Winston’s lack of the basic risk reward set him back 10 to 20 Million whether it be with the Bucs or in free agency.
  83. WestChap Says:
    One thing is certain… if you have decided that your absolute worst option is to roll with Gabbert and you’re ok with that as it sounds like Bruce is, then playing hardball with Jameis via the media is a no-lose proposition. If you’re wrong and there is a market for him, so be it. If you shake his ill-advised confidence and weaken his market enough to make him open to discussing a reasonably priced deal in which he hits the lotto only by realizing incentives, well done.
    @Joe
    Just so we understand the poker game.
    Until next Tuesday March 10th at the 4 PM deadline when teams are required to release their tags aren’t the Bucs playing with “house money”. What leverage does JW have? Hold out? Might work for a star like Dak…compare their stats..has worked in the past for HOFers like Emmitt Smith…a turnover prone QB 14 games UNDER .500…not so much.
    So what happens after the 10th? Does that make JW a true FA? Can the Bucs franchise him at a later date if he is unsigned by another team?
    Tuesday at 4PM!!! This week should get pretty interesting…the weekend intensity will increase..and by Monday sphincters will be tightening in NFL and agent offices as well as QB domiciles.
    Aaron … “I don’t see how any of this ends well for the Bucs…I just don’t really have faith in this team’s management to get this right.”
    Very insightful list Aaron and when one looks at ALL the pieces that have to come together to even have the POTENTIAL for a winning season, it sure does seem unlikely that they’ll all work out. My take? IF it was Dirk Koetter & Jason Licht trying to make this happen, I wouldn’t give it a snowball’s chance in he11 of working out. But I really do have a LOT of faith in BA & this coaching staff. Not-so-much in JL admittedly, but I really don’t think he’s a major performer in this circus.
    Jameis & his agent decided they’d play hardball after the last game of the season. BA does not strike me as someone you want to play hardball with, and I think that Jameis is now finding that out. I agree with Chris Simms, who “thinks Tampa Bay is playing this brilliantly”. Don’t mess with BA. Guys like BA are extremely valuable friends, but very formidable adversaries. As Jameis has probably already found out … “If you can’t run with the big dogs, get back on the porch”.
  90. Hodad Says:
    This Jameis saga gets funnier every day. No need trying to drive down the market for Jameis, THERE IS NONE!! That happened when he lead the league with 30 interceptions, and 7 pick sixes! Not to mention his Uber grab after the Bucs stuck their necks out drafting him. It would be easier selling vacuum cleaners door to door then selling any sane G.M., and fan base Jameis.
  91. TexBuc Says:
    Many longtime fans believe when we let Doug Williams leave over money the Bucs became cursed with Bad MoJo and QB after QB failed. Just when I thought the curse had been lifted we just might curse ourselves again over money.
  92. CPN Says:
    Just draft a QB at this point.
  93. Defense Rules Says:
    StPete … There was a report out 2 days ago which said … “The original deadline for teams to place tags on players was March 10 at 4 p.m. ET. Due to ongoing CBA negotiations, the NFL and the NFLPA agreed to move back this year’s tag deadline since the status of the CBA impacts how teams use their tags.”
    Apparently they agreed to extend it by 2 days to 12 March at 4 PM. Interestingly the latest costs for various tags seem to be:
    o QB: $26,895,000 for franchise tag and $24,373,000 for transition tag.
    o DE: $19,319,000 for franchise tag and $16,338,000 for transition tag.
    o LB: $16,266,000 for franchise tag and $14,080 for transition tag.
    So I guess in Shaq’s case and in JPP’s case it makes a significant difference money-wise (about $3 mil) whether a player is identified as a DE or as an OLB when the tag is applied. Interestingly the Bucs identify BOTH JPP and Shaq as OLBs on their team roster as of today.
  94. JimmyJack Says:
    DR…….I mirror the faith you got with this current staff. I think most fans are stuck in the rut of yet another losing season but when you look closely there were definite improvements made.
    Free agency was better. Draft was good. Developement of young players was apparent. Run defense improved, pass defense took some time but did turn a corner.
    Passing offense put up better numbers. Redzone offense improved. And I almost couldn’t believe seeing this team make some actual goalline stops. Didn’t even look like the Bucs out there at time.
    The Bucs are on the rise. Sad not many of the fans can see it. Sad but understandable.
  95. TexBuc Says:
  97. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:
    Just curious, but when exactly has Arians or Licht blasted Jameis?
    Seems to me, it has only been the media interpretations of their words. Otherwise, they’ve only said usual words for this time of year.
    Keeping their options open? What team isn’t going to say that this time of year with their QB wanting a new contract?
    Saying his turnovers have to be fixed? Duh. Jameis is thick skinned and knows that.
    Arians saying he can win with Jameis or with another QB? Come on, what’s he going to say? “If we don’t re-sign Jameis, we’ve got no chance of winning!”
  98. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:
    Defense Rules, I’m not sure JPP can be tagged anymore.
  99. Buczilla Says:
    As long as we sign Shaq (looks iffy), the “game” that the Bucs are playing with Jameis isn’t even remotely dangerous. We have him by the balls as long as we save the tag for him. Does anyone really think that Jameis is going to cause a ruckus if he gets tagged? Imo he’s way too competitive and too much of a good (he’s been trouble free for years) dude to pull that nonsense. Now if we tag Shaq, we may end up screwing the pooch with Jameis. That will be a clear sign to me that all this talk about him being plan B is legit.
  100. MadMax Says:
    Well, i was thinking 20-22 for JW but if his best bet is backup for somebody, then no more than 12 mill.
  101. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:
    I’m right. No non-quarterback will be tagged more than twice.
    QBs up to 3 times with conditions.
  106. Stanglassman Says:
    I was looking so forward to the 2020 season and now the Bucs are going to use it training another Qb in BAs system. Jameis gives the Bucs the best chance at winning next year. This is so Bucs to finally get a decent team together and let the most important component go.
  107. DoooshLaRue Says:
    JayMiss….
  108. JimmyJack Says:
    Bonzai I’ve seen you making all these predictions and so far you are 0-1. Sure sounds like Brady is leaving New England. That’ll make you 0-2.
    Maybe at least you can get your Tampa prediction right. Well see…..Just wanted to take this opportunity to rub your nose in your shotty predictions.
  109. Tye Says:
    JW doesn’t give anyone ‘the best chance at winning’ except the opponent…
    Prone to throwing the game winning pass to the opponent at the end of the game..
    The greater the pressure the greater the chance he throws the game away…
    Better off with a rookie!
  110. stpetebucsfan Says:
    D.R.
    Thanks for that CBA update.
    One thing that has always surprised me is that the players let the teams designate their “position”. I mean the “players” collectively in their CBA.
    And I guess LB/DE is the only position where that takes place so easily. LB/DE is now a hybrid term. In my mind…perhaps because of body type and game…I view JPP as a DE and Shaq as an LB. But I realize that with all the hybrids we run they both line up at different spots at different times.
    If the “players” collectively get their share of the pie why should they be upset on how the owners decide to divvie it up. I wish the bonuses were tied far more closely to wins and losses and far more closely to team goals…wins should equal money for everybody.
  111. Stanglassman Says:
    douche’- You believe some other Qb will come in and somehow pick up BAs system quicker than others in the past and have a better rep-port with WRs Winston has been working with for years. Despite these facts You are welcome to have that opinion. But please respect mine.
  112. T REX Says:
    Look at all the Winston knob gobbler tears!
    Schadenfreude
    Winston would have never hit 5K with a decent back up here. It’s fake numbers.
    Arians would have benched him. QBs don’t throw for 30 picks because they aren’t given that opportunity anymore.
    Winston=fake stats
  113. Rga Says:
    T-Rex ain’t to bright, Andy Dalton, Case Keenam? Careful what you wish for.
  114. TexBuc Says:
    Since we are playing what could’ve happened, we could have won two more games “if” our kicker had made FG’s. We could have won if a Ref would have not blown the whistle early on a clear turnover.
    The Doug Williams Curse is real.
  115. REDZONE BA Fan Says:
    @TexBuc – Right on!!! – regarding playing the “What If” game. Bucs could have been 10-6/11-5 in the “What if” scenarios – which had nothing to do w/JW interceptions.
    Next 10 days will be interesting. Who knows what is going on behind the curtain w/discussions between Bucs and JW agent?
    Bruce is not an idiot. Knows he can win w/ JW more quickly, than the stupid “door #2” Bullcrap.
    I expect Bucs to resign JW. And my wishes – JW moves on from Bucs.
  116. D1 Says:
    Redzone,
    I agree BA is not an idiot. I’m sure He’s smart enough to realize that INT’S is the best predictor for team wIns and losses.
    Turnovers and takeaways is not an area of the game you can lose and still win games. Obviously, there’s games you can win but the percentages are not favorable. One needs to look no further than the bucs to see ample evidence.
    I’m suggesting that B.A is not looking for someone to produce more than winston. That would be damned near impossible. Rather, BA is looking for someone who can be productive without the mistakes, turnovers and missed opportunities that occur with winston almost every game. He’s said as much recently and more than once. And it’s ridiculous to surmise the door #2 thing is just posturing to resign winston.
    Now to throw in something that isn’t part of the daily pro winston lexicon. Do you or anyone else believe that they know more about winston than BA? It would appear so often.
    Perhaps, BA is privy to information about winston (I have no idea what, just to be clear) that has changed his mind about him. Point is, that’s information that you, me or anyone outside 1 Buc wouldn’t know. Which is why I think it’s 1000% sheer stupidity to profess with even a modicum of certainty that you know B.A believes this or that. In your case, He can win faster with winston than anyone else on the planet. He may, but that doesn’t work to support your opinion.
    If you believe in BA, then no matter what the outcome is , you’ll be able to support the decision. If you’re strictly a winston guy, there’s plenty of them, then it’s winston or bust. I totally understand and I believe most buc fans do as well.
    The real divide, in my opinion, is that there’s a group of fans that are both winston and Buc fans versus just bucs fans. The former believes wholeheartedly that without winston this franchise is going nowhere. The latter , looks at the past 5 years and rightly concludes that nowhere is where we are and that having winston hasn’t changed the teams trajectory. Nor will it.
    The only way to know who is right or wrong is history. We’ll know after the fact, not before.
  117. Christopher Schiefen Says:
    Oh Joe? Are there no quarterbacks in the draft? And what starting job is out there for Jameis?
  118. a-bomb Says:
    This is all about the Bucs driving down Jameis’ asking price. He will be back on a 2-3 year deal that is probably pretty club friendly. Remember trolls, that Licht and BA are probably playing for their jobs and are not going to risk it on: 1)drafting a QB or 2) bringing in somebody who will take 8-10 weeks to get comfortable in the offense.
  119. BA Redzone Says:
    @D1 For sure – I know less about Winston than BA. Professional analysts and media are speculating just like me and other Bucs fans, as to the Bucs strategy regarding JW unflattering comments. If the Buc’s plan is to move on, fine. But if the Doors 2-3-4 options do not pan out – Awkward relationship based on “you’ll do, JW” since my target QB’s did not pan out.
    And if contract w JW works out, whether $10-15m etc, I expect that JW will be professional and say all the right things publicly. Marriages of convenience are usually unpleasant for both parties, so the strategy to slow-play JW is risky for the organization and the other 52 players on the roster.
    And the reason I “speculate “ (I don’t have a crystal ball) that BA will win more and faster w JW, is simply due to BA’s supposed complex offense. Carson Wentz stated it takes a year to learn. — not that Carson’s comments are the gospel. And while not 30 INTs, Carson threw 22 INTs in his first year of BA offense, the most in his career. One can hope that JW cuts down the INTs to half if he gets a yr2.
    And I’m a Bucs fan. And I like JW, too. I believe parting ways will be best for Bucs and JW in long run, especially since any re-signing at this point is likely a marriage of convenience.
    And my opinion is just that, an opinion and I not “professing with even a modicum of certainty” about anything. Mercy, man! 😏
