Report: Jameis Had Eye And Knee Surgeries

February 12th, 2020

Squinting Jameis was around during his college days at Florida State University

Reports are claiming America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, had common surgeries recently to correct his vision and to repair a torn meniscus.

The significance of all this is unclear.

Last season, Jameis threw for 5,109 yards and was one of the very best deep-ball throwers in the NFL, so obviously vision wasn’t screwing him up on the football field. Sure, one could blame interceptions on vision, but that’s a stretch when you’re racking up yards and making precision throws.

Longtime local sports media guru JP Peterson, currently host of “The JP Show” weekdays on 820 AM and in-game host for the Tampa Bay Lightning, shared the fruits of his reporting yesterday.

“I called around today and we got it confirmed,” Peterson said on his Tuesday show. “Jameis has had Lasik surgery. He’s finally gotten Lasik surgery and he had a torn meniscus repaired in his knee that he was playing with for a few games.”

Peterson acknowledged digging for the info upon seeing the Feb. 8 Twittering about the surgeries from unnamed author and Twitter personality Jameis 1of1.

Jameis was on official injury reports late in the season with a knee injury, in addition to his busted thumb.

How did any of this affect Jameis? That’s impossible to quantify. If one blames injuries for picks, then one could also call Jameis injury prone after knee, ankle, shoulder and thumb injuries through his five-year career.

Regardless, Joe wishes Jameis well in his recovery.

  1. BucEmUp Says:

So Jamies played with a torn miniscus, broken hand, no run game, blind as a bat, and finished the last half of the season with a winning record despite having a play caller that has no business calling the plays and everyone wants him gone.Typical Bucs fans

  2. Buccernutter Says:

Injury prone seems to correlate with top of the league in sacks allowed.

    šŸ¤”

Honestly though, how can someone argue with retaining the #1 yard passer and #3 for TDs with a bumb knee, bad vision, a broken thumb, #32 passing defense, and no run game

    Interceptions blah blah blah.

  3. Larry Says:

He should have had his eyes done years ago. Not sure if that will help with the interceptions but it can’t hurt!!!

  4. Buccernutter Says:

    Damn bucemup

Great minds think alike. That was almost the exact same time ha.

  5. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Lasik surgery? So has jameis been shortchanging his teammates & fans by being magoo since FSU? Do any reporters ever see him drive away from one buc wearing glasses? He would not have a Florida DL, if he had serious vision issues and just said oh well. This sounds so strange and doesnt address his ridiculous mistakes that have ZERO to do with this alleged vision condpiracy.

  6. Buccernutter Says:

    Duthsty

Doctors do not advise Lasik until around 25

    Come on man.

  7. Anonymous Says:

The more I see the more I think he wonā€™t be a buc

  8. adam from ny Says:

wow jameis was like a broken down jalopy last year and still put up huge numbers…

what will he do now with good eyes, a repaired knee, a fixed thumb and two sand crabs in his forehead?…

the team must know all this is true – and now i’m convinced he is coming back to the bucs…

jameis is gonna be one bad man in those new all pewter color rush unis !

  9. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Jameis still sucks

  10. Ndog Says:

I’ll just leave this right here.

Just a FYI for everyone, Jameis just had BOTH Lasik surgery and surgery for a torn meniscus that he had earlier in the year. No word of this from anyone but I guess thatā€™s ok because like usual he wonā€™t get credit for playing through an injury most would miss 2-4 weeks for!

  11. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Assuming Winston had Lasik surgery to ā€œfixā€ his nearsightedness, what is wrong with that?

This should affect his ability and accuracy when throwing the long ball mainly in my understanding.

Will this have anything to do with his decision making in the heat of the game? Will he reduce the number of interceptions he throws? Will he take fewer sacks? Will he have fewer fumbles because his awareness of his immediate surroundings is improved?

Anybody out there have any answers? Any comments?

Or will it only be Winstonā€™s second year in BAā€™s scheme that has a bearing on these questions?

  12. Buccernutter Says:

Dude said two sand crabs in his forehead.

    šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

  13. kgh4life Says:

Did his vision problems help fuel his interceptions? one will never know, but getting the lasik surgery can only help.

  14. footballjunkie Says:

    Assuming…

One cares, and believes the very irrelevant JP Peterson…very many years later. Otherwise, he would always been consistently, in the loop right?. Story in, story out. Year in, year out.

    They must be buddies…

  15. Bird Says:

    Buccernutter

    There is something called contacts
Yah. A millionaire qb will choose not to see for 5 years. Makes perfect sense
    šŸ˜‚

    Cmon man
    And go noles!

  16. Bird Says:

    Ndog

Thanks for showing your earlier post
Man you broke that story homie
    You are an amazing american
    The best. Really smart too

  17. Ocala Says:

    Bucs should resign Jamies

  18. Big_Buc$ Says:

If he had surgery and is a pending free agent I wonder was the surgery and rehabilitation cover by the bucs? If so that may mean he is get franchised tag or they got a deal worked out. Who knows cant wait to March to see what the decision will be going forward.

  19. BigHog Says:

I can see ya now…they’ll soon be calling me Mr. 6,000! Getting healthy for a Super Duper 2020 season! Sign all of our free agents that we want to stay and draft that 6′ 2″ 235 pound bruiser of a running back that can take over a game in the way the A-Train used to do it and we on like pop corn …Mr 5,000 take a week off and then get back to the off season training program !!

  20. T REX Says:

He belongs in the bargain bin at the dollar store.

    No more Winston…please…

  21. Defense Rules Says:

It still comes down to trusting BA to make the best decision for the Bucs moving forward. He’s got far better information about what went on last year, what’s going on with Jameis physically right now, etc. We’ll all know soon enough what QB direction he’s taking the Bucs in.

Really not much more anyone outside of the ‘inner circle’ can say about Jameis IMO. About the only thing the Bucs CAN DO between now and March 18th when FA starts is to work contracts for our own UFAs. I sure do hope that BA, JL et al have put ‘pedal to the metal’ and are pressing big-time to re-sign Shaq, JPP, Suh & Nassib BEFORE FA starts. And if we were smart we’d also re-sign several of our other UFAs: Adams, Auclair, Minter, Watford, Ryan Smith, Nunez-Roches, and maybe Hawkins, Wells, Liedtke, Hudson & Barber. Would love to see us resign Perriman for a reasonable salary before March 18th, but have a hunch he’ll want to test the FA waters.

  22. NPRSageBoy. Says:

He’s gonna need more than Lasik and a minor knee procedure to fix his ball security issues.

I’m think a change of his scenery will do wonders for this franchise.

    Peace, out.

  23. OneBuc55 Says:

    This explains alot…
I wonder what knee it was

  24. Buccernutter Says:

    Bird

    Um you missed the pt.

But thanks for clarifying contacts exist. Smh.

    šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

  25. adam from ny Says:

a change in uni’s might signal a lot of change – as well as change at the qb spot…

also jaboo’s eye surgery might be a bargaining tool with inquiring teams – as he and his agent can claim jaboo was all fugged up, but now he’s fixed

  26. Issac haggins Says:

How was this not done year one !!!!!!!!} Iā€™ve said it again and again and again , this sht ainā€™t hard , itā€™s NO Real Leadership / Meathead Jock leadership that makes it hard. Licht is Baffoone !!

  27. ATrain Says:

Jamies got the same Award twice last season

    SOO ABSOLUTELY BRING HIM BACK

  28. miken Says:

I just hope accuracy surgery is next

  29. MTM Says:

So the Bucs physician didnā€™t know Winstons vision was bad 5 yrs in. The bitch was squinting all the time. WTF! Itā€™s a collective group of F&cktards running this organization.

  30. SB Says:

I want one more year with Jameis. Yes! Screenshot this because I know I will.
I have supported him from day one when he put on Pewter. I have defended him vigorously up here in the Northwest. I don’t do it blindly though. I think he cost us a few games last yr but he won many as well. I want to see Year Two with JW and the ME and CG!
Have to keep Shaq and JPP tho! Love to keep Suh and Nassib but first things first.

  31. Silent_Partner Says:

Told you guys. Some of you laughed about it, but he’s needed to do this eye surgery for years. Seemed obvious to me.

  32. Barbosa Says:

Winston uses echo location to throw the ball.

  33. El Buco Realisto Says:

What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!! There were so many in the JBF comments talking about lasik for jw3 before they bucs drafted him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How are people still employed that just paid “blameless” 23.5 million and never had an eye test????????????

    This franchise is an shambles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Jameis just getting right for his next team

  35. Craig Says:

If the Bucs had considered him a franchise QB last season, why wasn’t he pulled, why didn’t he take a few plays off to be fitted for a knee brace?

Maybe all of this work means he will actually attempt to come to camp ready to play the game this year. It hasn’t happened before, as you can tell by the starts of all of his 5 seasons.

It doesn’t matter if he has a winning second half of the season when he blows it at the start and the hole he dug was too big to climb from.

He would have to prove that to me. The problem is that he hasn’t yet and his five year rookie contract ended with a thud. The thud of 100 million dollars falling back into the bank truck.

  36. adam from ny Says:

    throws 30 ints…

    gets eye surgery…

ya think the media is gonna have fun with this one for the rest of the week ?????

  37. buccin cane Says:

Soooooooo nobody gonna say anything about Jason Licht out here dropping Jameis info under the burner account or are we just gonna gloss over that LIL line in the store Jameis 1of1 šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

  38. buccin cane Says:

    *story

  39. JameisAlmighty! Says:

Jameis more than likely just became a candidate for Lasik surgery.

  40. Bucsfan951 Says:

So we can add a bad knee and bad vision to the already long list of excuses that includes bad o line, lack of run game, teā€™s who canā€™t catch, receivers who run the wrong routes, injuries to his top receivers, lack of defense, kickers, punters, play calling, refs, fans who hate on him, bad owners, bad gm… am I missing anyone else? I know I gotta be missing someone.

  41. Bird Says:

    Buccernutzsucker

Nah. Nice try. Your point was he was forced to deal with poor vision cause to young for lasik

I just brought captain obvious in the room for yah
The team doctor would not allow their starting qb to play blind. Pretty sure that wAs part of his physical

    Smh for you

  42. Bucsfan951 Says:

NOPE, nobody isnā€™t gonna say anything about jameis1of1. Dude is a clown, a fake, a phone, FUGAZI!!! An anonymous writer. I would bet dude hasnā€™t even sold 5k books. I would imagine he sold around 2k. That might actually be giving him credit.

  43. Jean Lafitte Says:

This can only be viewed as a good thing. Vision is important, especially for a QB.

  44. AwShbucs Says:

Jameis101 is NFLNUT and I’m willing to bet money.

  45. Miketb19 Says:

Jameis Winston TO totals for first 5 seasons
    INTS: 88
    Fumbles: 31

I donā€™t care if heā€™s a blind as Ray Charles thereā€™s no excuse for those types if he hadnā€™t of been a #1 overall pick heā€™d already be gone with numbers like that
    Another Stat in 5 seasons
    1 winning season
    0 playoff appearances

Like I said if not for his draft status and Jason Licht thinking heā€™s right about everything he would already be someoneā€™s back up somewheres else

So after all that why is that weā€™re required to pay someone like heā€™s top 5 at his position when clearly heā€™s not and if we did let him go which we should thereā€™s not a team in the league thatā€™s going to pay 27-30 mil to a guy who turns the ball over like that so why should we

  46. JimmyJack Says:

Bucsfan951……I listened to the JP Peterson podcast earlier today. Maybe you should too. He said he checked into this Winston 1of1 guy and that he is legit with credible sources. I think JP is pretty credible and wouldn’t make crap up to his listeners so I’ll take him for his word on that.

1of1 guy said some pretty interesting things on that show. Was a good listen. One thing that stood out to me was how Jameis played with that broken thumb when he could of sat instead & how the coaches treated them as more or less throw away games and used them as a test of sorts…….then he started railing off how Winston should of sat and was a poor decision to play through it. That’s when I wanted to climb through my radio and B-slap that guy. Freaking Winston is a football player that type of mentality is totally counterproductive to winning in this league. The one thing I’ll always love about Winston (that nobody can deny) is he’s got the heart of two lions!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  47. adam from ny Says:

jameis is probably feelin’ all wavy on pain meds right now and reading all this crap

  48. BrianBucs Says:

Now Winston can get a better, more clear view of the opponent’s DB’s as they run past him on their way to the end zone with a Pick 6

  49. Chris l Says:

This is so bucs with the lasik. I doubt this had any impact on his interceptions but you know the media is going wild with this (National people who have no idea about this team).

  50. Pewter power Says:

Lol it’s funny how people saying this may be related to interceptions. He played well enough to get drafted 1st overall from college. The excuses just keep coming, he had one good season this year, he was just benched last year cant be asking for 30 million he just ain’t that good. Nearsightedness has nothing to do with decision making skills. Regardless of whether licht knew it, winston knew it and decided to wait 5 years to fix it despite all the losing.

  51. Bucsfan951 Says:

@JimmyJack: meh, the guy is a joke in my eyes. Come out and tell people your name so they know who you are. Donā€™t hide behind a fake name. He sold maybe 2k books but I even doubt that number. Heā€™s written a book about another dudes career and to me, thatā€™s creepy.

If Winston was this future hall of fame qb, why is he about to be a free agent? Why isnā€™t his name being tossed around to other teams like Brady and rivers? You bet your behind if Eli Manning didnā€™t retire and was a FA, his name would be tossed around as well. These are the questions I would have for that dude.

  52. Gman Says:

All of the Lasik surgeries the world wonā€™t stop Jaboo from being a dumba$$

  53. WestChap Says:

Maybe LASIK will help him look off safeties and see LBs underneath? Canā€™t hurt. If not, at least heā€™ll see the door marked OUT more clearly.

  54. DalvinCookRules Says:

Being injury-prone is only relevant if you actually miss games because of injuries. See Marcus Mariota.

  55. SteveK Says:

    Jimmy Jack,,

Agree. Not a Jameis fan bc of turnovers, but he has the heart of two lions. I can get behind that. Heā€™s not a sissy, nor will he get scared and fold. Sometimes to his detriment bc heā€™s too fearless.

  56. Anonymous Says:

He will probably throw more picks now bc he can see better… & he will try to force even tighter throws. He will NEVER change this is as good as it gets with JW

  57. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    @Joe

Why credit the unoriginal Jameis apologist who hides behind a screen name when Stroud is credited for confirming the story by other outlets?

  58. Joe Says:

    Loyal:

So J.P. Peterson breaks a story and heā€™s not allowed to be credited for it? J.P. Had this information Tuesday.

  59. Justafan Says:

Jameis1of1 explained that the reason Winston had the eye surgery was because he couldn’t work out because of the knee.

  60. Robert Says:

just trying make excuses and up his value at the same time…..like some type of warrior who played with a broken arm and one eye.

    he played without a brain.

I’ll give him credit for having some metal to push through, but lasik????? c’mon man….if he needed glasses he should have done it long ago. If his MCL was that bad he would not have been on the field. a BABY scratch is what it is, trying to make it out to be a stab wound. probably 1/2 the nfl has partial mcl tears and don’t know it. just go to the doctor, they’ll tell you about your mcl tear!

  61. Bucsfan951 Says:

Iā€™m glad it took a knee surgery to finally get lasik. Jameis1of1 with that hard hitting reporting. An anonymous reporter with his anonymous tips.

  62. 813bucboi Says:

excuse #5107(eye) and excuse # 5108(knee) are out the window…..lol….

im sure more will be created….lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  63. CrackerBall Says:

None of this matters – he is a turnover machine. He has always been one and will always be one. His over-confidence in his abilities and the “curse” of shaking off his bad plays and getting back out there simply leads him to more mistakes. Does not seem to learn anything from them.

I hope that Jameis can now “see” his way out of town…

  64. Jmarkbuc Says:

Only the Bucs could draft two QBā€™s number one….one colorblind, one blind blind.
