Monte Kiffin Next In “Ring”
February 21st, 2020Legendary former Bucs defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will be the next name which will be inducted into the Bucs’ “Ring of Honor.”
Bucs co-chairman Bryan Glazer made the announcement Friday evening at a surprise 80th birthday party for Kiffin.
Said Glazer, per a team-prepared statement:
“Monte Kiffin’s contributions to building and sustaining one of the most dominant defenses in NFL history were crucial to our franchise’s most successful era. Monte worked closely with Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden using his signature defense that became the team’s identity and was a key part of winning the Super Bowl. He was an outstanding coach, teacher and leader who consistently got the best out of his players and we eagerly anticipate welcoming him into our Ring of Honor this upcoming season.”
Kiffin joined Tony Dungy’s staff in 1996 and he remained as the team’s defensive coordinator through the end of the Jon Gruden era in 2008. Kiffin announced his resignation prior to the end of the ’08 season so he could coach with his son Lane Kiffin, who had just accepted the head coaching job at the University of Tennessee.
With the Bucs, Kiffin helped mold one of the greatest defenses in NFL history, one that guided the Bucs to two NFC title games, one NFC championship and the crowning jewel of football, the Super Bowl title in January 2003, where Kiffin’s defense suffocated the high-flying Raiders in a decisive victory.
No other coach in Bucs history lasted 13 straight seasons.
Kiffin will become the 14th member of the “Ring of Honor.”

Probably deserves it…still sore at him for dive bombing the 2008 season.
February 21st, 2020 at 9:37 pm
James Wilder must have screwed someones wife.
February 21st, 2020 at 9:46 pm
Dewey
Rotflmao….Glad for Kiffin though.
February 21st, 2020 at 9:53 pm
Hope his merry band of quitters are there to enjoy it.
February 21st, 2020 at 9:56 pm
The Tampa 2 defense should be renamed to
Kiffin’s Cover 2
February 21st, 2020 at 9:59 pm
Why do the Glazers hate James Wilder?
February 21st, 2020 at 10:02 pm
Wilder, Nickerson, Rice, in that order.
February 21st, 2020 at 10:07 pm
Wesley
I concur with that order.
February 21st, 2020 at 10:09 pm
It’s taking the fans to get a uniform change looks like. Going to take Ira, fans or Polls to get James Wilder in. Glazers’ don’t have a clue.
February 21st, 2020 at 10:14 pm
Well deserved.

I’m sure Jamoist will lose the game in his own pathetic brand of failure. #NoPlayoffs
February 21st, 2020 at 10:36 pm
^^^what the hell are you talking about?^^^
February 21st, 2020 at 10:53 pm
Amen to the Wilder comments. I agree ten thousand times over.
February 21st, 2020 at 10:58 pm
5 postseason wins during that span was laughable not legendary….. what underachieving 1 year wonders let it go the ring of underachievement is embarrassing win you average the winning percentage of its members
February 21st, 2020 at 11:00 pm
A franchise with lowest winning percentage in nfl history and 6 playoff wins in 43 years does not deserve a ring of honor
February 21st, 2020 at 11:22 pm
Ray perkins should be next i hear he was nice to the gardeners at the facility and good in the community
February 21st, 2020 at 11:36 pm
Tmax with yet another fatuous take
You need to get laid bud
My guess is you are divorced. Probably bc your ex wife had low standards which was apparent when she married you. In which case maybe go lefty or call a Colombian prostitute to jazz things up a bit
I don’t comment often and apologize to everyone else for wasting their time. My wife gave birth to the newest member of buc nation yesterday and I am rather sleep deprived
February 21st, 2020 at 11:42 pm
Kiffin is overdue. He probably should have preceded Dungy and Gruden but better late than never. Wilder will get there soon enough.
February 21st, 2020 at 11:59 pm
Trollmax, the Ring of underachievement is clearly the ring your mother gave you when you surprisingly graduated from kindergarten so many years ago. Sad that it haunts you still today.
Love, little Stevie

Congratulations, Brother!

Wilder should be next.
Sapp won’t like this.
And Kiffin abandoned the team in 2008 and cost a whole coaching staff and a bunch of players their jobs.
Another move by the Glazer triplets that – oh hell why would I be surprised.

SCOREBOARD LADIES
5 playoff wins with that defense is laughable not legendary…. raise your standards attacking me won’t rewrite history or change the fact you have no standards
February 22nd, 2020 at 2:11 am
Well deserved.
February 22nd, 2020 at 2:24 am
I guess given the lack of post season and regular season successes it’s actually the best of the worst…. versus a true ring of honor. Either way its a collection of sapp, selmon followed by a group of backup career losers. If low standard bucfan had its way sabby and Myron Lewis would be in contention for enshrinement
February 22nd, 2020 at 2:54 am
If an assistant coach could make the HOF, he should be the first guy in. Gruden 100% owes his SB ring and $100m contract to Kiffin.

TJmaxx – Please do me a personal favor and get a severe case the novel coronavirus. Make sure it’s the anal swab version.
God bless.
February 22nd, 2020 at 4:18 am
Agree Wesley!
Start w Wilder & Nickerson who really helped change the Losing Bucs culture. He is one of my favorite Bucs…
February 22nd, 2020 at 5:56 am
Love Monte but come on…Wilder? Cotney? Richard Wood? etc. All forgotten. Nothing was done for 79 team anniversary either. Travesty.
February 22nd, 2020 at 6:31 am
Bruce, as my name is in honor of that ’79 season, specifically that incredible defense, I fully agree. Too bad most fans are too young or weren’t around at all to know how fun that season was.
February 22nd, 2020 at 7:03 am
Bad choice
February 22nd, 2020 at 7:28 am
If he had not cut and run mid-season tanking a promising run, I agree: RoH.
But he quit on the team and I will never forgive him for that betrayal.
February 22nd, 2020 at 7:45 am
Yup, kiffin quit midseason when there was no reason to do so.
February 22nd, 2020 at 7:50 am
The announcement came with an addendum in fine print at the bottom of the page where most facts are often overlooked.
The name Monte Kiffin will be accompanied with a large asterisk, the first of it’s kind in professional Rings of Honor.
It’s the asterisk alluded to in Kurt Vonnegut Jr’s Breakfast of Champions or the illustration of the international symbol for Azzhole.
It’s to acknowledge how Monte quit on his team in the middle of a (9-3) Super Bowl run, causing this team to crash and burn, never to recover.
Most fans felt that Monte’s name would be added to the Ring soon after he was named to the Ring at Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium where he and his azzhole son scurried off to.
Soon we will see Art Modell’s name added to the Ring of Honer at First Energy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Glazers are contemplating Bo Jackson as next year’s honoree.
Please note this day 2-22-2020 is a cold day in hell and 5 deuces must mean that the world as we know it has been turned upside down on it’s head.

JAMES WILDER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Getting pissed at me ma’am is not going to add wins to those horrible results you live in denial over… i think the libtards are working on a safe space pill to help those who struggle with reality….
February 22nd, 2020 at 9:06 am
Rod
Instead of desperately clinging to a failed past and washed up has beens why night hope for a brighter future… much less effort than spending countless hours twisting facts and rewriting history to feel good about a losing past… dungy the clown and the fluke champions lost just as many 10 to 7 as they won 10 to 7…. highly ranked defense on a bad team ran by a piss poor 1 dimensional coach that is reality. Its a shame that there is no course or vaccine to raise someone’s standards
Joe instead of date ranges played next too names in ring of underachievement it would be more relevant to put winning percentage during time served in Tampa versus years played.
February 22nd, 2020 at 9:22 am
Legit question since all the career losers that low standard bucfan falls for are crappy on the field yet good in the community should it not be the ring of community service.
February 22nd, 2020 at 9:45 am
Monte Kiffin is entering the Ring if Honor and joining John McKay-
Just think about that….
February 22nd, 2020 at 10:08 am
Makes sense.
February 22nd, 2020 at 10:31 am
Well deserved.
CONGRATS Monte.

I would be happy with any of the above,
especially James Wilder.

that’s all you got… you are as weak as the has beens you worship….. 5 playoff wins is laughable not legendary making me laugh is not going to add to that pathetic total…
February 22nd, 2020 at 2:25 pm
sam whyce should have been in before dungy the clown. dungy wasted the defense that whyce built for his ignorant arse. but feel good stories and losers must be enshrined before people who actually setup the franchise for the 1 year wonders and their fluke championship….
February 23rd, 2020 at 10:40 am
No more coaches. HC only. Especially not one who sabotaged a season. Need to stick with players only. Who’s next, the guy who snipped off Harper’s finger?
February 23rd, 2020 at 2:10 pm
Monte should of been on their before Gruden. Ppl talk about Dungy coming up with the famous Tampa 2, but Monte was the DC that held down one of the best defenses ever.
