Mel Kiper Has The Bucs…
February 19th, 2020So Mel Kiper, Jr. decided to have his second out of 200 or so mock drafts.
Let Joe just say we’ve heard this before.
Joe’s good friend Sean Sullivan, the hardcore Bucs fan and draftnik who by day is the general manager of Bill Currie Ford in Tampa, told Joe’s wide audience that listens to the “Ira Kaufman Podcast” that he could see LSU edge rusher/outside linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson fall to the Bucs.
Kiper agrees. He has the Bucs drafting the LSU monster.
I mentioned in my Mock Draft 1.0 the Bucs’ possible departures along the defensive line — Ndamukong Suh, Carl Nassib, Jason Pierre-Paul and Beau Allen are all free agents — and Chaisson would be a perfect fit as an outside linebacker in Todd Bowles’ 3-4 defense. Chaisson had just 9.5 sacks in his college career, but this is a bet on a terrific upside for a twitchy pass-rusher who should test well at the combine later this month. After taking Devin White in the first round last year, Tampa can go back to the LSU well here with Chaisson.
Joe thinks Chaisson is phenomenal. And you cannot have too many pass rushers. Just ask John Lynch with the 49ers. That pass rush on the west coast carried the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
Even if the Bucs were able to keep Jason Pierre-Paul and Ndamukong Suh (Joe hopes that is the case), this Chaisson would still be a fantastic pick. After all, JPP isn’t a spring chicken.
If Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht can pull off this heist, Joe just might drink Big Storm Brewery in Clearwater, the site of this spring’s JoeBucsFan.com draft party, out of their wonderful beers.

The Bucs should draft a defensive player from LSU every year. Those dudes are all over the league preforming well.
February 19th, 2020 at 12:21 am
This guy and Shaq? I’d love to see it! Breeze may rethink his decision to stay with the Saints.
February 19th, 2020 at 12:34 am
We could seriously draft an LSU player in three straight rounds. Delpit or Chaisson in round one. Queen in round 2, and Edwards-Helaire in the third if we are lucky enough for him to still be there. All would address positions of need, Licht will probably over think it and draft a handful of kickers instead.
February 19th, 2020 at 12:48 am
That guy has got some real talent!! Why does he only have 9.5 sacks??
February 19th, 2020 at 2:17 am
Doesn’t matter.
Bucs must draft a d line for the present. Future. In rd 1.
Aj epinesa
Kinlaw
Yetur
Chaisson
Either one. Must 1st round. We can’t be in this predictability every offseason with no dline depth signed.
February 19th, 2020 at 2:38 am
Boy he’s fast around that corner. He would be a good pick at #14 but if we have JPP and Barrett he becomes a luxury and a part time player at #14. I think the position we need to address first is OT and they’ve got OT’s Tristan Wirfs, Willis Jr., and Thomas all ranked ahead of Chaisson with a possibility to be there when we pick. Picking an offensive lineman isn’t sexy but if you get a dynasty player you’re set for a long time.

Mel Kiper.
Hahahahahahaha.
February 19th, 2020 at 3:14 am
The best lb to come out of LSU in recent years was Dione Jones and the Bucs drafted VH3 and Spawn and almost Roberto Aguayo over Jones.
Next they drafted White over Allen time will show similar debacle
Only reason the Bucs have Evans or Winston is bc of Jon Robinson. Licht has been an absolute cluster of a draft guy.
So yea ignore the OL again. Maybe JAmEiS can finish out the 2020 season with a broken neck while you guys debate if you should pay him in chicken wings or buckets of kfc.
February 19th, 2020 at 3:35 am
SorryJack- PR new writer just did a break down on this guy. It’s worth the read. He thought he’d move up after the combine but still had him going late 1st to early 2nd.
He is definitely going to take a year or two to develop. At this point 14 seems like a reach. I may disagree with my February option come April.
February 19th, 2020 at 4:02 am
Question is, can we be sure he’s available when we decide to move on from JPP
February 19th, 2020 at 4:16 am
Bucs would be wise to resign jpp considering how everything changed when he came back for that team. If they do bucs are not a team who has the luxury of drafting a guy in the first round who wouldn’t be a full time starter. Definitely should draft a guy to replace suh, jpp or demar in the first. Either way we should get a great player at 14 that is a full time starter

Mock drafting is dumb and wildly inaccurate. I can’t believe people make a living out of being wrong so often. Worse, I can’t believe people out there put *any* time reading a mock draft.
February 19th, 2020 at 5:47 am
I’m with LUVMYBUCS on this one … would much rather draft A.J Epenesa if he’s there. However, Bucs NEED to re-sign JPP, Suh, Barrett AND Nassib so that we can instead draft a beast OT. This looks to be a great year to grab one in the 1st year, even at #14.
February 19th, 2020 at 5:50 am
I’d be happy with this guy in the 1st Round. Reminds me of Danielle Hunter coming out of LSU, who didn’t have a ton of sacks in college, but has had 29 sacks in the last 2 years.
That guy at that other website had A.J. Epenesa rated as a 3rd Rounder. He’d have to have a terrible Combine for that to happen, IMHO.
February 19th, 2020 at 5:56 am
I’d also be happy if we took an Offensive Tackle in the 1st, but I doubt we do (remember, we needed an O-Lineman last year, and didn’t draft ANY). My prediction is a midlevel OL (not Jack Conklin, someone cheaper so we can keep the defense together) and draft another OT in the 3rd or 4th Rounds.
February 19th, 2020 at 6:32 am
I would definitely rather us lock up our FAs and look to upgrade other areas first.
February 19th, 2020 at 6:40 am
We don’t know if the Bucs plan to move Cappa to RT, and they might already have a guard on the roster to take his spot. They might need to draft a QB with the first pick, or Kinlaw if he’s there.
February 19th, 2020 at 6:46 am
With that production he has bust written all over him
February 19th, 2020 at 7:05 am
This would be a good pick…….but anything can happen with picks 1-13……we really need to concentrate on the two lines in rounds 1 & 2…..we need a QB & RB in 3 & 4 and perhaps a S in 5 or with our late round 4 comp pick.
February 19th, 2020 at 7:08 am
Anyone know when the last time Kiper predicted a Bucs pick was?
Five years ago, and only because everyone knew. Outside of that? Well, I didn’t go back more than 20 years.
As much as I like this idea, we need to address offensive line.
February 19th, 2020 at 7:19 am
Hodad Says
“We don’t know if the Bucs plan to move Cappa to RT…”
I’ve seen this suggested, but I’m against it. Shifting players around on the offensive line brings instability, as we have seen for years now. Keep everyone where they are for a change. Draft a RT and be done with it.
February 19th, 2020 at 7:20 am
I like such topics.
February 19th, 2020 at 7:23 am
I’m also willing to admit that we could address RT in free agency, freeing us up in the draft to choose BPA at a position of need. Though I don’t know of any RTs who would be good enough out there.
February 19th, 2020 at 7:54 am
I don’t like this pick I think he is good but we need to resign what we have now Winston, JPP, SB, and Suh. Draft pick in the first OT, second RB, third we can get a DL
February 19th, 2020 at 7:57 am
I am on the AJ Espena bandwagon. The only hesitation I have regarding him is he does not have elite speed. He relies specifically on his strength, power, and hand technique to get to the QB. I am not sure there is a current comparison in the NFL to him as a pass rusher at 6’6″ 280. Literally the closest I can think of is Ed “too tall” Jones at 6’9″ 270ish. That was an entirely different NFL. That is why Chaisson will look like a safer pick with more upside due to his speed and quickness to get around the corner. Especially in the first round in the mid-1st round.
February 19th, 2020 at 8:17 am
Mel is always wrong
February 19th, 2020 at 8:28 am
as much as i like chaisson, id rather have d.brown, kinlaw, AJ or an OT in the 1st…..
1st round has to be brown, kinlaw or RT….
GO BUCS!!!!!
February 19th, 2020 at 9:10 am
Well Kiper is horrible, so we can all bet he has this pick wrong.
Hell, my drunken mocks that I make up on draft day are more accurate.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:20 am
Offensive Line, Offensive Line, Offensive Line.
February 19th, 2020 at 9:21 am
Wirfs, if available should be #1 pick. IMHO
February 19th, 2020 at 10:30 am
Mel Kiper lost all credibility when he claimed Trent Dilfer was a franchise QB.
February 19th, 2020 at 10:39 am
Joe always talks about production. This guy didn’t produce in college. That’s a red flag for me. This isn’t a good draft for edge rushers in the first round, I would wait on that position. Grab the best available OL!
February 19th, 2020 at 10:54 am
I like Chaisson he was a beast in highschool. However I dont think he will be able to contribute day 1. He missed a year with a torn ACL i believe. He needs also needs to be better recognizing the run. He has an extremely high ceiling and could end up being the best player in the draft depending on his development. IMO.
February 19th, 2020 at 11:07 am
I’m not sure how the Bucs are still going to get him after they draft a QB in round 1.
February 19th, 2020 at 11:15 am
Nancy gonna be so mad when Jameis is re-signed. She may have to boycott all the games next year including the playoffs.
February 19th, 2020 at 2:23 pm

Um no the best linebacker to come out of LSU in a while is Devin White. LSU has regarded him as quite possibly their best player in history. Josh Allen is good, but I don’t think he’ll be on White’s level, starting this year.
Also, the Licht sucks at drafting bull**** is getting old. Marpet, Donavan (who had a good year last year), godwin, vea, oj (he’s a good player in the wrong system), Cappa, Gay, Dean, White, Edwards, Bunting, Beckwith (if he had stayed healthy), jameis (was on licht whether you want to admit it or not), evans (again on licht), davis, and rojo are all good to great players. That’s 16 players. Not to mention hump, suh, jensen, jpp, and perriman. 21 good to great players acquired. Football isn’t all about talent. Most teams are extremely talented. It takes coaching and we’re finally seeing what we’ve been capable of all along. Look at jax, they are stacked and suck again.
Licht has done a lot better than people think. It just took bruce to show people. It will only get better.
February 19th, 2020 at 3:13 pm
Jake Conklin rt from Titans I’m hearing might be a option for us that would definitely help the o line tremendously Leonard Williams and Clowney draft delpit then Jake fromm then best available dt/rb would be my dream off season for us with resigning shaq barret

LOL!
I have no doubt your drunken mocks can be competitive with these moronozoids.
Mel Kiper – I snicker just looking at the deuce.
February 19th, 2020 at 10:02 pm
Is it April yet?
February 20th, 2020 at 12:10 am
There really should not even be a MOCK DRAFT out until after Free Agency.
Once the dust settles on the FA..We’ll all have a better idea of what holes are glaring for league rosters & have a better idea of how certain teams are leaning toward the draft…. Until then, it’s all click-bait.
February 20th, 2020 at 8:21 am
That foot sack on Fromm is the most impressive. Fromm went down like he had stepped into a bear trap!
