Lombardi: Derek Carr “Tradable”
February 6th, 2020For Bucs fans who hope a new quarterback is barking signals behind center come September, this post is for you.
Joe has already floated the possibility that the Raiders may want to move on from three-time Pro Bowl starting quarterback Derek Carr, who will turn 29 next month.
Well, you can throw gas onto this fire now that former NFL general manager Mike Lombardi, the former coffee fetcher for Bill Walsh, Al Davis and Bill Belicheat, has come out on his podcast saying Carr will not be starting for the Raiders when they break open their new Vegas crib this year. Carr has started all but three games for the Raiders since he was drafted in 2014,
Over the weekend, Adam Schefter of BSPN reported that if All-World quarterback Tom Brady tests the free agent market, the Raiders will make a major play for the future Hall of Famer.
That’s so Chucky!
This information is all Lombardi needed to know to lead him to predict Carr will not wear a Raiders uniform again, so he told his “GM Street” podcast audience this week.
Lombardi has previously mentioned he thought the Raiders might part ways with Carr but the Brady leak convinced Lombardi it will happen.
“This story getting out, and even though their general manager Mike Mayock said they are happy with Derek Carr, it is clear they are not happy with Derek Carr, OK?” Lombardi said. “I don’t care what they say. You can say whatever you want but this story getting out says more about how they are not happy with Carr.
“Yeah, they have a contract with some of Carr’s money guaranteed. But Carr’s contract is easily tradable. It is easily tradable. And they have made no bones about their dabbling of interest in trying to find some other player.
“This [Brady leak] is more about Carr than it is about Brady. Because somebody else, unless they can’t get anybody else, is going to be the quarterback of the Las Vegas Raiders.”
Lombardi also admitted Carr’s family has come after him behind the scenes for suggesting Carr better not be buying residential real estate in southern Nevada.
Doesn’t this all sound like Chucky? Dude never met a quarterback he didn’t want, until the guy played for him.
So for those who like to daydream of anyone at quarterback for the Bucs rather than Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, could the Bucs trade for Carr and what might be the price?
Or could the Bucs and Raiders swap quarterbacks — the team could tag and trade Jameis?
Carr’s most productive season was 2015, when he threw for 32 touchdowns with 13 interceptions. The following year, Carr led an overtime win over the Bucs at the Den of Depression, courtesy of Hey Jude’s defensive holding penalty.

Joe, I think you meant to type “Who smell OF** weed and stale lime-o-Ritas.” Slight typo.

I’d still rather have Winston on a 1 year deal but this is the only FA/trade option that actually makes since since he’s good and young……..
So quit the Brady/Rivers fantasies everyone please.

Loungemane:
Nope. No typo. Thanks though.

Classic Chucky.
I’d take carr. He’s got a gun, he’s mobile, and he’s a competitor. Still draft a qb
February 6th, 2020 at 1:36 am
Bet we could get Carr in here for 23 mil and have enough to sign everyone back and extend Godwin. …and I’d bet we’d win more than 7 games in Carr’s first season under Arians.

21.5 is Carr’s cap number for this upcoming season. He signed a 5 year 125m back in 2017. I much rather have Jameis but Carr maybe the next best option available.

Nice caption,
Joe must hang out on Fremont St.
Or maybe the Southpoint

The story run hot that media wants. This is not about you Joe but duh about 15 other teams will be going after Brady as well so just because Gruden “will make a major play for Brady” means nothing, that doesn’t make it a slam dunk beau plays there because of that fact. I like Carr but if Bucs are giving up significant draft capital to get him I have a problem with that
Knowing chucky he’s not taking the quarterback who’s run his system for two years to a team on his schedule next year and also his former team you can forget that, he got that same type of advantage in his super bowl win.

All i know is im seeing some mocks with Isaiah Simmons making it to us….I swear to God if that happens, we better take him!!!! Theres our Safety and plays LB!
Love wont make it to us, neither will Derrick Brown…..and then im seeing tyler Badasszzz going in the 2nd? WTF?
Ok then, if that really happens, my mock is
1st Simmons
2nd trade up for Tyler Badassszzz (play him at RG, groom to replace C Jensen…move Cappa to RT)
3rd QB Gordon
Trade back into 3rd RB Zack Moss…if not there, RB Patrick Taylor in the 4th
then hope WR TJ Vasher makes his way to us (doubtful…. he’s a 3rd rounder)

It would be great to have a real QB for the Bucs, a true Pro-Bowl selection and not some pick-throwin, crotch grabbing, alternate, degenerate (Jameis L. Winston).
February 6th, 2020 at 4:41 am
If the Raiders sign Brady, the Raiders would like trade Carr back to the Patriots as he’s better than some garbage guy like Dalton or Teddy B that the Pats could get.
No matter, no way Carr becomes a Buc as JW is way better, way more fit for Arians system, and won’t throw the ball into the stands on a fourth and goal play like quitter Carr did!
February 6th, 2020 at 6:16 am
I would take Carr in a heartbeat. He’s mobile, accurate (completed over 70% last season), and does a good job protecting the ball. With weapons like Evans, Godwin, Howard, etc., Carr could be very effective in BA’s system.
February 6th, 2020 at 6:19 am
Nope. He won’t throw it in the stands like Carr. He’ll one up him and just throw it to the defense for a pick six.
February 6th, 2020 at 6:52 am
Dink and dunk. Carr sucks. If we sign him or Newton Im no longer a fan of any team in the NFL. What has Carr ever done in the league but have 1 year and look at the opponents thatvyear he did it against. Weak ass schedule. Rather draft a qb.
February 6th, 2020 at 7:01 am
IF the Bucs can get Carr for essentially the same salary Cap hit as Jameis, it’s a no-brainer IMO: MAKE THE DEAL. Bucs could have a winning season AND make the playoffs with Carr I’m convinced, PROVIDING that we fix the same things we talk about having to fix for Jameis (defense, running game, OLine).
But we should ALSO draft a QB, IF one is available who BA likes. IF not, then there are several good candidates who should be coming out in 2021. No need to waste a pick on a QB who might never start for us. Too many other needs.
February 6th, 2020 at 7:25 am
Should’ve draft him when he came out.
February 6th, 2020 at 7:59 am
Derek Carr made the pro bowl the previous 3 years before Chucky showed up in Oakland. Gruden ruins Quarterbacks. Under Arians Carr would flourish. If they want a trade send them our #2 pick. Jameis will have a bad year in 2020 no matter where he plays. Buyer beware. Vinny Testerverdes int record will be broken if he stays unless of course BA benches him.
February 6th, 2020 at 8:56 am
DR – I’m with you. I’ve liked DC for years. He’s been on a poorly run franchise his entire career. He’d appreciate and thrive working with BA. He won’t lose us games at the same clip as JW.
Grudens ego is legendary. It worked one year with Bucs, thank you JG. But I’m glad we did t bring you back. Cause that act gets old real quick.
In BA I Trust!
February 6th, 2020 at 8:57 am
Typo. Did not bring him back
In BA I Trust!

While I DO believe Gruden will move on from Carr at some point, there is absolutely no chance Brady plays for anyone else but the Patriots.
He already said he isn’t going anywhere.
Every time the Patriots go without winning a Superbowl, we here all kinds of talk about their dominance being over, Brady maybe retiring, etc. Then the following year he leads them to the Superbowl.
Carr was on my wishlist when he was drafted, so I would not mind having him in Tampa, especially if he steps up his game like Drew Brees did when he left the Chargers. Brees actually was not as good as Carr when he left the Chargers. The next year, he started to dominate and never stopped.
Carr could do the same.
If we were to move on from Winston, and I doubt that. (this year)
February 6th, 2020 at 9:35 am
Pa fan Says
“Dink and dunk.”
People said the exact same thing about Brees before he went to the Saints.

Classic “Florida man” lobbing insults at the Midwest. Self-reflection is needed as the rest of the country scoffs at you. Joe still could not score with the women regardless.
February 6th, 2020 at 9:56 am
DR & Hodad
i agree!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!

Some of those Midwest corn fed weed smelling girls would put a hurting on some of you. Don’t knock em you’ve tried 2 or 3 of them.

more like Red Tide with dead fish and dolphins and seaturtles!
February 6th, 2020 at 12:47 pm
Carr for Winsome. Would do it in a heartbeat. Less money. Better QB. Go ahead make my day.
February 6th, 2020 at 4:23 pm
Make that trade! Still draft a Qb in round 3 of later, get Ol and Dl in rounds 1 @ 2
February 6th, 2020 at 7:31 pm
Carr > JW. Jameis hasn’t done it in 5 years, so what makes you think he’ll do it in year 6?
February 7th, 2020 at 10:22 am
Make the trade, qb for qb plus incentives to git er done! Have always wanted Carr. Away from Gruben he will flourish again with Evans and Godwin. Beef up the line and rb and we never again go thru 30 picks and 7 pick 6s
