Former Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken, a talented and popular gunslinger of a play-caller, is headed back to the college ranks after becoming collateral damage in the wake of the blowup of the Browns.
Monken, who served as Bucs wide receivers coach/offensive coordinator from 2016-2018 under Dirk Koetter, oversaw one of the NFL’s best offenses in 2018. He also largely is responsible for honing the skillset of All-World Bucs receiver Mike Evans.
This morning, per Seth Emerson of The Athletic, the Georgia Bulldogs and Kirby Smart hired Monken to presumably be the offensive coordinator in Athens.
Now Georgia is largely known as Running Back U. They churn out damn fine running backs including a guy who likely will be a top running back pick in the draft come April, D’Andre Smith.
The Bucs, meanwhile, have a dreadful running attack with overrated and likely over-the-hill Peyton Barber and shouldn’t-be-on-the-roster Dare Ogunbowale.
So Joe has a poll question for readers. Joe doesn’t think he is being unreasonable here with what the Bulldogs have on their roster compared to the lousy Bucs running backs.
Among the college coaching stops for Monken was at LSU.

Another stupid poll. Seriously comparing college rosters to nfl is dumb. Rojo is better than anything coming out of Georgia at this point. Rojo had great college tape also, doesnt mean it will work out the same way in the nfl.

I’d say the Dogs mostly because they have a really good O-Line, our’s got better over the year but we still have weakness….especially in the run game blocking.

I’d rather have an offensive or defensive lineman with our first pick, but if we took D’Andre Smith instead, I wouldn’t cry. Having a running back that defenses have to worry about would be awesome.

Derek Henry would get stuffed at the line for rhe bucs because the defense always knows when its a run just lime the fans do before the ball is snapped

I really think the Bucs should draft RB Cam Akers of FSU. He has breakaway speed and also runs hard between the tackles. All of this despite FSU’s offensive line being Terrible!!

Monken did very little for Big Mike …for he came to the BUCS a stud, a top tier reciever straight out of college l!!! So he dropped a few passes , which is what receivers do, they catch some and they drop some (it’s the nature of the beast). BIG MIKE has the will to be great, so he corrected his problem like the great ones do and Monken just happen to be standing on the sidelines! Lets see how many stude receivers he sends to the NFL from Georgia!
