“We’re Coming In To Stadiums Expecting To Win Now”

December 1st, 2019

New ‘tude

Yeah, yeah, the Bucs beat the snot out of the crappy Jaguars, but the real question burning through Bucs fandom is whether Tampa Bay’s losing culture has been eradicated over four weeks that have seen the Bucs win three of four games.

Like any pewter-blooded fan, Joe certainly hopes so. The stench of losing has filled the Tampa skyline for far too long.

We were teased last year with a 2-0 start followed by a ferocious Week 3 comeback that fell short.

The 2016 five-game winning streak proved to be a mirage, as was the 2015 surge to reach 6-6 following the infamous Capital Collapse. The Greg Schiano era launched with a 6-4 record only finish 7-9 followed by a massive implosion in 2013.

So have the Bucs turned a corner?

Bucco Bruce Arians referenced a change in mindset during his postgame news conference.

“I like where we’re at. We’re practicing and preparing extremely hard every week. We’re coming in to stadiums expecting to win,” he said.

That last sentence was a new take to Joe and felt like Arians acknowledging a real change — positive, meaningful change.

Joe will take the optimist road tonight and sleep well on that thought.

    Let’s go Tampa!!
    Another complete game
    Go BUCS

  2. Tbbucs3 Says:

9-7 is not much of a stretch. It’s sucks how good Minnesota and Seattle are cause they basically have the wild card spots locked up. 9-7 is not gonna cut it.

  3. BFFL Says:

Im finally seeing the making of a great defense.

  4. Dapostman Says:

Bucs seem to like getting away from Tampa to play. Who wouldn’t when home fans are selling their tickets to the opposition.

    4 road wins
    1 home win

  5. tmaxcon Says:

Slow down old man 2 wins against franchises in turmoil is hardly anything to get excited about…. win a couple of good games against teams your not supposed to beat then hit the bob kraft rub and tug

  6. 813bucboi Says:

    Tbbucs3

    I agree

Giants and Panthers game really hurt….

    GO BUCS

  7. Deez days Says:

Bucs better find a way to keep this team together and upgrade our QB

  8. LaMarcus Says:

    No

Titans,Seahawks, and Giants. 2 defensive stops and a 34 yard field goal and we are 8-4

But I think we figured it…. we should be good next year

  9. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Man what in god’s name are we going to do. We need a QB, right tackle, safety and a running back and that is IF we can resign our edges.

  10. TiredOfLosingGoBuc Says:

Screw it im just going to say it…..we should be at least 7-5 right now but thats another story..ok im done carry on

  11. LaMarcus Says:

    Smb> Greedy
Devin white > Josh allen and Devin Bush (benched)
    Vea>derwin james

  12. bojim Says:

    Yea. Before I die please.

  13. snookman Says:

The team is where it should be. We will lose to good teams, beat very bad teams, and have a chance against middle of the road teams. Like I said back in august………all I care about this season is being respectable. At times this year we have been and others we have not. We are not ready for the big show at this moment but I feel it is important for us to win 3 out of the next 4 games at a minimum. Finish strong. We need our defense to play like it has since lately.

    Progress………..not a mirage

  15. Ndog Says:

This defense is so young just imagine if they played anywhere near this level all year we would be sitting at 8-4 or 7-5 at least. Especially the Giants and Seahawks games, man so close to having HUGE games at RJS in December.

  16. 541Buc Fan Says:

Where has this defense been? They look great!

  17. Tye Says:

We’ll see this coming week against the Colts… JW has struggled mightily over these 5 years to put more than 2 wins consecutive together once a season… If they lose then it is just the same pattern.. only 1 time a season the win 2 in a row and then go on to lose,..

  18. Tye Says:

1st two last year were on Fitz who was actually an exciting QB to watch though it was short lived!

  19. Eric FartsWell Says:

The culture is tougher than this!! It’s going to take more than just the rest of the season to knock that btch out. It’s been hit harder than this before and came roaring back. Don’t underestimate that stank

  20. JimmyJack Says:

Now it is high time to come into our stadium expecting a win!!!! Us fans have waited long and hard and we are fed up with Ray Jay being a source of sheer depression.

Myself I go to a game, sometimes 2, per year and waited 8 years to see a win. Finally happened against Arizona!!! Now it’s time to treat all the rest of the Bucs fans to more wins…..The season ticket holders deserve a winning home record…….Win all the rest of our home games and get us to 4-4 at home. That’ll be a good start. Something to build upon. Restore hope to this fanbase and be rewarded!!

    GO BUCS!!!

  21. TeethingBratt Says:

“We’re coming to stadia……..expecting to possibly beat teams that are sub-par and have a tradition of losing.” Wooooo hoooo! We beat 2 a terrible teams in 2 weeks and will cap 18 years w/o a playoff win!!! Woo hooooo!

  22. July Joe Says:

JAMEIS WINSTON and HIS Bucs are 4-1 in games where the defense gives up 27 or less points … with the one and only loss being the Titans game that Arians ripped his WR’s for running the wrong routes on two picks and the refs stole a possible game-winning fumble-return-TD from Devin White.

It’s almost like Jameis could WIN at a .800 clip if the defense just plays a little worse than league average rather than giving up 30+ every game!!!!

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The remaining games are very winnable…so 9-7 is not impossible. I would accept (well, any record…what choice do we have) 7-9 because that is what Dungy had his first year. It would be better if we were better than that though. 8-8 for example. Winning out would be excellent. A winning season for a change.

You never know…the wild card favs could lose out.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Defense is improving quickly now. Easy games are surefire cofidence builders, and if we win the majority of remaining games, free agents are more likely to re-sign.

  25. Gettinthebucs Says:

I’ve been extremely frustrated with this team as of late. The coaching, the players and even my fellow fans. These last few weeks have seemed to rejuvenate my fandom though. You can’t deny the bucs are playing good ball. If you can win a game where your QB doesn’t throw a touchdown you’ve got a pretty decent team. I’ll layoff of Light for now but he darn sure better draft 3-4 impact players in the next draft. Hopefully coach Arians sticks around a couple of years and continues this upward trend. Go Bucs!

  26. orlbucfan Says:

Somebody has made a major brain fart/typo!

  27. BucsBandit Says:

I love how the PATHETIC Jacksonville Jaguars turn the ball over in 3 straight possessions to hand the Bucs an easy win and now people think this team has “turned the corner” after also beating the powerful 3-9 Atlanta Falcons. LOL.

  28. JimmyJack Says:

Bandit……..We got some good teams left on our schedule. They will proove you naysayers wrong. Since you apparently don’t know what a good football team is when you see one.

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This is why you don’t “play for the draft”…….why you play to win…..it puts a good taste in your mouth….and sets the stage for winning in the future…

I will say, I don’t like letting off the gas and this running up the gut and being consistently stuffed is getting old.

Let’s go 9-7 and let the draft pick fall where it may.

  30. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

bandit right on. The jags OL is horrible & the jags and falcons are a notch below the bucs

  31. ModHairKen Says:

“Slow down old man 2 wins against franchises in turmoil is hardly anything to get excited about…. win a couple of good games against teams your not supposed to beat then hit the bob kraft rub and tug”

    That was hilarious. Well done.

  32. unbelievable Says:

I’m starting to expect it as well…. some weeks.

Today was the first time I’ve picked the Bucs to win in a while… since probably week 4.

  33. DalvinCookRules Says:

I think the Bucs SHOULD win two more games on their schedule. There is less than 50-50 odds they win three, and a very slim chance they win the remaining four. I think between the QB, the kicker, and the coaching, there is just too much inconsistency to expect three wins, so I will guess 7-9 as the final record (I predicted 6-10 preseason)

  34. orlbucfan Says:

BAzz needs to get more creative with the O playcalling. Defense is definely. starting to jell. Looking forward to the 4 final gqmes. Hope I can attend the game on 12/21.

  35. MadMax Says:

Cant wait to see what we do next year….hopefully everyone stays together and we add a dynamic SS (Simmons), RB (Dobbins), and RT (Becton).

  36. Aceofaerospace Says:

It starts with beating the teams you’re supposed to beat, so I’m not going to insult these last 2 wins. It’s a good week. Looking forward to next. Come on Jameis, make us believers.

  37. Discobeef Says:

What happened to Ira’s 10 takeaways? Did he get overexcited by the win and rip into one can of Big Sotrm too many?

  38. BrianBucs Says:

Arians should show up expecting to win when you are playing one crappy team after another.

  39. Ndog Says:

Remember last year when guys like SteveK (I am not saying him in particular) were begging us to cut Jameis and sign Nick Folk?

  40. Craig Says:

He didn’t say anything about playing at home. The Bucs were the home team in London, but that smells too bad to dig into.

Let’s wait yet another week before anointing the Bucs as a team on the rise. The Colts are going to come to town angry and Jacoby is not going to lay down like Foles did today.

    Wait a week.

  41. Ndog Says:

    Sorry Nick Foles

  42. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Couple of meaningless wins against bad teams when you’re out of the playoffs is typical for this franchise. Maybe one season they’ll start 6-2 instead of 2-6. Maybe one season they’ll have a QB that doesn’t throw interceptions and fumbles to start games 21 points behind.

  43. JimmyJack Says:

Craig….That’s fair. But I do see this Bucs playing a much more solid brand of football then I’ve saw in a very very long time………I mean that goalline stand today??? Seven plays!!!!

I don’t care who the other team is. There has not been a Buc team that could seal a win like that maybe dating back to our golden ages!!!

We are playing solid a good football right now. Sure we seen teams get our hopes up and get sent right back to earth in a game like the Colts one next week. I for one don’t see that happening with this team. Jerked up for next Sunday!!!! Bring on the Colts baby!! I want a piece of them….Bet this defense does too.

Pelsbucs…… Meaningless is only a opinion. Don’t you never forget that. Never!!!

    GO BUCS!!!

  44. Nate from MT Says:

Pels….like the Jags today? Great win! Momentum will bring us down the stretch. 10 wins is not impossible! Improbable, but not impossible. I’m pleased with trending up.

  45. Ndog Says:

Vita Vea vs Q. Nelson should be a epic battle next week. Hopefully Vea views it as a chance to prove he was the best pick in that draft.

  46. MadMax Says:

Yeah, changing my mind, the houston game will be tough….Indy too

Whatever, we’re picking in the teens, or even 20’s if we win those….thats fine. draft falls where it falls.

  47. unbelievable Says:

Houston and Indy will def be tough, especially Houston. The defense is for real.

    I’d guess 7-9 or 8-8

  48. SteveK Says:

    Ndog,

Not sure I want Foles. I don’t want to cut Jameis. But, I don’t know we can go to the playoffs with him. A lot to like about his game, but the turnovers are too much to overcome in my opinion.

Happy with how Jameis played today, and I aim to remain objective in the evaluation of my 4-7 football team.

  49. Ndog Says:

Houston looks good tonight, really good.

  50. Ndog Says:

SteveK not that I am bragging but we are 5-7 my friend.

  51. RagingBrisket Says:

Oline sucks bad and it’s never addressed effectively. All or most failure by this team can be explained by a fair assessment of the lousy oline. It’s now the only thing holding this team back

  52. Bucsfan951 Says:

^this dude is bragging about 5-7 smh 🤦🏻‍♂️

  53. Oneilbucs Says:

Man the last I check the Jaguars is a NFL team. What if we would have lost then what??? We win and it still not good enough. The Patriots has been destroying their division for 18 years and they give them credit for doing it so I’m happy for every win we get . I don’t care who the team is.

  54. The Ghost of Leeman Bennett Says:

This two game winning streak is all well and good, but can someone please tell me what happened to the pewter pants with white jersey combination we used to wear?

  55. Owlykat Says:

The Jags had a tough pass defense and were tough for us to run against. But their weakness was how their OL has fallen into shambles since they hired Warhop likely without doing their homework on how he has ruined the Bucs in past years! That allowed our Defense to today have a sack fest on an excellent QB who won a Super Bowl for the Eagles. That proves if an OL does not protect their QB that can cause a QB to be tagged as a loser in error—which you haters have also tried to do to Jameis.

  56. MtBucsfan Says:

Seriously with every single change this year and the several changes over the last 5 years. To see that d play the way they did gives hope. It’s starting to click with every single player. Cardinals went through the same. Hopefully they keep the intensity through this year and next. They can do some serious damage next year. Also 9-7 thisnyesr gets you nowhere lol

  57. Anonymous Says:

A rather objectional line from BA. Have they not “expected” to win games before? What a lazy fat slob.

  58. Bucsfanman Says:

Just because it NEEDS to be said:

We are not good enough yet to go into a turtle shell on offense with a lead. We scored 3 points in the entire second half, THREE!
We were able to defeat the Jags despite this.

  59. Colonel Angus Says:

Bucs went 13-30 since playing Dallas on Sunday Night Football 3 years ago (we were 8-5 at the time after that 5 game streak). Since beating Arizona we are now 3-1. Finish strong and lets hope this is the start of a winning run of football.

  60. Jmarkbuc Says:

Great to see some defense. I think it’s a little premature to say that the losing culture has been eradicated, because we one 3 out of 4..

We didn’t beat any world champs or anything.

Just because it NEEDS to be said:

Hey you have to give BA, BS and BL credit they do one hell of a dungy the clown offensive impersonation when starting the second half with a lead… nothing like coaching scared dungy style.

  62. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Tampax,

What a blow hard keyboard warrior hack you are. You wouldn’t have near the balls to say the things you profess, to either Dungy or Brooks ( or anyone else)
If they were standing in front of you.

  63. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Dapostman

Wouldn’t that mean we should win at home, since it feels like an away game?
